[GNC] Upgrading from old repo to new stable (4.06)

2021-06-28 Thread Jean D. Boyle via gnucash-user

 Hello fellow users of GNUCash,

As the new edition of GNUCash is fresh from to press, I would like try
it too. In the repo of Mint 20.1c, there is (still) 3.08, but on the
official Mint Forum, the PPA of Sicklylife is shared to upgrade to
3.11/4.02.

Mint Forum: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=341880
PPA from Sicklylife:
https://launchpad.net/~sicklylife/+archive/ubuntu/gnucash

In order to try 4.06 too, this non-techie wonders: Besides building
from source, is there another/easier way to update GNUCash from 4.02
to 4.06? The building instructions for GNUCash is (or should/dare I
say are) not very clear-cut for this nontechie. Like, 1) when trying
to install the dependencies, the terminal says that I have some broken
packages; 2) searching for "Install with Cmake" does result in
instructions on how to install CMake, not how to install /with/ CMake,
and 3) some guidelines on youtube for installing something from git,
are not representative for GNUCas; for this nontechie at least.

Thus, how can this nontechie upgrade to GNUCash 4.06?

2021-06-28 Thread David H
I run the up to date versions on Ubuntu using flatpak which is kept updated
with the latest version - see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Flatpak for
details. I think it runs ok on Mint linux also and there's no need to
compile anything, just run a "flatpak update" now and again to update to
any new version available - so easy :-)

Cheers David H.

2021-06-28 Thread Dale Alspach
Try flatpak/flathub. Quoting John Ralls:

GnuCash is now available as a flatpak from Flathub.org. Instructions for
installing and running may be found at https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Flatpak
.

Note that at the time of this announcement the flathub.org build is broken
because of a problem with Finance::Quote installation. We will get a
release up there as soon as we can resolve the issue.

Jean,

The Linux build instructions are here
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building_On_Linux

If you are installing 4.6 there are some new dependencies which will be in the
release notes and the dependency files in the sources. AFAIK the wiki hasn't yet
been updated to deal with any V4.6 issues.

You could also try the Flathub version https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Flatpak.

Re: [GNC] Finance::Quote v1.50 Released

2021-06-28 Thread dullege
Thanks for the update!

I just installed this version on Windows, using Strawberry perl.

Just to note the included "Cdnfundlibrary.pm" is still not working for some
Canadian funds ... during "Get Quotes" I get this error popup

"Unable to retrieve quotes for these items: CADFUNDS:420290"

I reverted back to a working version of this file that someone had published
previously (guess they did not include this officially in 1.5).

[GNC] GnuCash crashes when generating Equity Statement

2021-06-28 Thread Jakub Sygnowski
Hi all,
I have a problem with GnuCash where it's crashing when generating Equity
Statement.

I verified the report works on an empty book, so likely the problem is with
my data. I traced it back to gnc:sum-collector-commodity
,
where one of the commodities gets exchanged to #f which causes the error. I
looked at the price database for its entries, but they look fine to me.

Any idea what could have gone wrong here?
Thank you!

However, if (say) I buy AMD shares

1 Buy 10 shares in Brokerage account:AMD

2 GNU reduces cash in Brokerage account:USD Cash

3 GNU then automatically creates TRADING:NASDAQ:AMD

5 Then buy 20 shares of MSFT in Brokerage account:MSFT

6 GNU reduces cash in Brokerage account:USD Cash

7 GNU then automatically creates TRADING:NASDAQ:MSFT as a

So for every ticker GNU is creating a separate tree.

I get that I can move the MSFT under NASDQ to sit with AMD but why is GNU

[GNC] Finance Quote Not working on MacBook Air M1 chip

2021-06-28 Thread Deepti Randad via gnucash-user
Hallo Folks -

I recently installed GnuCash on MacBook Air with the Apple M1 chip - the
GnuCash GUI itself seems to be working great. Then I tried installing
finance::quote to get stock quotes automatically, however, this has not been
working even after a lot of trouble shooting I did. Please find below the steps
I have taken. Any help / direction will be appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
Kamlesh

Finance Quote on MacOS with MacBook Air M1 chip

In the GnuCash GUI, I get the following error message in the “Security Editor”
screen:
> Warning: Finance::Quote not installed properly <
and the rest of the fields below this are disabled.
I followed the installation instructions on
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Online_Quotes#Installing_Finance::Quote_on_macOS

The about page of the GUI shows:
Version: 4.5
Build ID: 4.5+(2021-03-27)
Finance::Quote: -

I did the following for installation:

First, run the gnc-fq-update - this I had to run a couple of times, but it
succeeded.

Now if I run it, I get the following:

Date::Manip is up to date (6.85).
Finance::Quote is up to date (1.49)

Perldoc gives the following output:

perldoc -lm Finance::Quote
/Library/Perl/5.30/Finance/Quote.pm

Then, I run the following command, gnc-fq-helper

echo '(yahoo_json "CSCO")' | ./gnc-fq-helper

This returns the data fetched:
(("CSCO" (symbol . "CSCO") (gnc:time-no-zone . "2021-06-19 12:00:00") (last .
#e52.07) (currency . "USD")))

Another command I tried:

./gnc-fq-dump currency USD EUR
1 USD = 0.8428 EUR

Therefore I am guessing Finance::Quote is working from command line.

./gnc-fq-check

Re: [GNC] GNU cash keeps adding trading accounts

2021-06-28 Thread Public Address
OK no problem – does the developer community see the same error I get?
Part of the bug description looks similar. But this is what I have right now.

My apologies. I was remembering a different thread and bug from the same time
frame.

This may or may not be the same problem as in the earlier issue. The earlier
issue concerned accounts created in Equity erroneously, not Trading. The (mis-)
creation of trading accounts in different tree structures sounds like a
different but related problem. Perhaps the fix implemented there will work for
this as well, but then again, maybe not.

I think this is a known bug discussed/reported back in late April which has
been fixed and will presumably be released in v4.6 shortly. Check out
https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2021-April/096343.html for
more details. Bug report at https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=798093

Re: [GNC] GnuCash crashes when generating Equity Statement

2021-06-28 Thread Christopher Lam
The clue is in the report file name; there's never been an equity report in
the example folder. Where did you get the report from?

gnucash/reports/example/equity.scm

Re: [GNC] Finance::Quote v1.50 Released

2021-06-28 Thread Bruce Schuck

Thanks for the update! I just installed this version on Windows,
using Strawberry perl.

Just to note the included "Cdnfundlibrary.pm" is still not working
for some Canadian funds ... during "Get Quotes" I get this error
popup

"Unable to retrieve quotes for these items: CADFUNDS:420290"

I reverted back to a working version of this file that someone had
published previously (guess they did not include this officially in
1.5).

Thank you for the info, but please report issues to
https://github.com/finance-quote/finance-quote or the
Finance-Quote-Devel mailing list hosted by SourceForge
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/finance-quote/lists/finance-quote-devel).
Opening an issue on GitHub is the preferred method, or better yet a pull
request that includes the fix.

Try running
  /Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/MacOS/Gnucash
from Terminal. Does that get it working?
