[Evolution] Cannot empty my trash folder!

2007-08-30 Thread E. Zonneveld
Hi All,

I am rather new to both linux ans evolution mail so
be patient with me.
Most things are OK now in evolution mail but I do
recieve much spam from one mail account and I use a
filter that delete" most of it.
However this "deleted" mails showing up in the trash
folder, here starts my problem.
When I go to file en select "empty trash" I get an error.

"Error while expunging folder."
Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local ( mbox)':
Summery and mismatch, even after a sync
--

I do not know how to find a "trash" (or any other)
folder where my emails are.
I need to solve this very soon because now I have
something like 10.000 mails in that folder!
Help please

Edmund

[Evolution] Easy way to build Evo from Subversion

2007-08-30 Thread Paul Smith
Hi all;

I've put up a page describing how to use my makefile to build the very
latest Evolution, checked out from Subversion. If you want to have
up-to-the-minute Evolution, Evolution Exchange, etc. versions for
testing or to get the latest bugfixes, this will hopefully make it easy.

You can find instructions, etc. here:

http://mad-scientist.us/evolution.html

If you have an earlier version of the Makefile than this please update
to this version (I just put up the newest one this morning). It has
some important fixes (for example, the clean rule no longer tries to
remove your entire root directory!! :-O :-/)

Also, a build error (bug in the Evo makefiles) is worked around and some
gconf schema installer errors are resolved (although, I'm not sure if
they really do anything) and some of the code is tightened up.
Currently there is only one issue: the build tries to install a bunch of
scrollkeeper info, which fails because we don't have root privileges. I
haven't figured out how to have that part of the build install somewhere
else to avoid this, so for now I just ignore the error. I hate this
though because it will also ignore any REAL errors you might run into.

Thanks to Peter Saffrey for trying it out and giving me info about
problems he found.

[Evolution] Problem fetching my LDAP addressbook

2007-08-30 Thread Thomas Novin
Hi all

I have setup my first LDAP server which is running OpenLDAP. The main
reason for this is that I would like to have a address book for use in
Evolution and Squirrelmail.

I have read a few guides[1,2] and some OpenLDAP documentation / man
pages to come up with my implemented solution.

I am able to authenticate when I click my addressbook and I'm also able
to add entries to it. When I search for a specific person I'm getting
the result I expect but if I close Evolution, start it again and then go
to my addressbook it is empty.

Is there something in particular I need to allow to let Evolution do
it's search when it starts?

Evo config:

login method: DN

Login: cn=Firstname Lastname,ou=AddressBook,dc=my,dc=domain
Search base: ou=AddressBook,dc=my,dc=domain

OpenLDAP config (relevant parts):

include /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/core.schema
include /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/cosine.schema
include /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.schema
include /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/evolutionperson.schema

allow bind_v2

access to dn.subtree="ou=AddressBook,dc=my,dc=domain"
by self write
by users write
by anonymous read

# EOF

Also imported from the suggested AddressBook.ldif and Me.ldif

This is what I can see logged from slapd when I start Evo:

conn=11 fd=15 ACCEPT from IP=x.x.x.x:60853 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)

Any tips anyone?

And of course, I do not use cn=Firstname Lastname and dc=my,dc=domain
etc.. :)

[Evolution] Segmentation Fault

2007-08-30 Thread Bryan Moore
I need some help from the community on this one. Yesterday,
Evolution was working fine, but today--without ANY upgrades,
installations, or screw-ups--it doesn't. What it DOES do is give me
this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ evolution

(evolution-2.10:7029): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance of invalid
non-instantiatable type `(null)'

(evolution-2.10:7029): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data:

(evolution-2.10:7029): e-data-server-CRITICAL **: e_source_group_peek_base_uri:
assertion `E_IS_SOURCE_GROUP (group)' failed
Segmentation fault

During my investigation into the problem, I accidentally started
Evolution as root and it launched, only giving me this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo evolution
CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...

(evolution-2.10:7377): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin: not
enabled or we have already loaded one

(evolution-2.10:7377): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Spamassassin junk plugin'

libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error.
  (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown) The name
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

So, I'm at a loss. I'm running Evolution on a FRESH Ubuntu 7.04
server install with Openbox. If anyone could point me in the
direction of a solution, I'd be eternally indebted to you.

Re: [Evolution] How to (not) move mail!?

2007-08-30 Thread Morgan Read
Hi Pete

Thanks for the comprehensive and sensible follow-up.

As a comment to the Evo developers, the term "Expunge" is not one I've
come across before using Evo, also what it does and why it does it is
not something I've come across before using Evo. So, it would go a long
way to alleviating the apparent insanity a new user finds when coming to
Evo if this term and function were _much_ better explained and
highlighted. Sure, I could find reference to Expunge in the help files
(and via google and Evo web sights) but the references tended to give
directions on how to use it, not what it did and why it did it - as a
consequence I was loath to use such a powerful and potentially
disastrous the function (incidentally, I did manage to wipe some
material I would have preferred to keep while trying to work out what
was going on).

[Evolution] Contact lists on an Exchange server?

2007-08-30 Thread Paul Smith
Question: is it possible for Evolution to keep contact lists on an
Exchange server? It doesn't seem to be and I'm wondering if it's a bug
or "expected behavior".

When I create an Exchange account and then go to Contacts, I can see two
entries there: "Global Address List", and "Contacts". The GAL is
obviously my corporate directory and it's read-only, and Contacts are my
personal contacts, stored on the Exchange server. I can create new ones
and they get checked during auto-expansion and it all works fantastic
(the enhancements to this area in 2.12 are really excellent; thanks!)

But, if I try to create a contact list the only place I can put it is in
my "Personal" contacts, on my local system.

Is this expected behavior, or a bug?

Either way I have some cosmetic issues that I'll add to Bugzilla.

Yes, I am using the script. I've tried what you suggested and still no luck. I
think the problem is that not all the libraries have been installed properly.

(It actually seems a bit odd that Evolution bothers to start when it can't find
the "mail" component, but I applaud it for soldiering on...)

I would try and poke around in the Makefiles to try to work out why these
libraries aren't being copied across properly, but I'm starting to feel as
though my tinkering is not very productive... Any suggestions before I wade
into this?

Thanks again for all your help,

Oh yeah, that's very bad. Things will definitely not work.

However, on my system that library is happily sitting
in /opt/evo/lib/evolution/2.12. exactly where I'd expect it to be.

If you don't have that library in that directory it means that your
"make install" of the "evolution" component did not work properly. Have
you been rebuilding from scratch every time? Or trying an incremental
"make"? The incremental "make" option only works if the previous "make"
was successful. It sounds like your source tree build got into a weird
state.

Either that, or there's something else different about your system.

I really would like to try to get this working, if you're willing to
give it another go.

This is what I'd like you to do, if you have time:

First, get the latest Makefile and evolution-svn.in files as described
in http://mad-scientist.us/evolution.html.

Second, run "make clean" (you can check that it will do the right thing
with "make -n clean", but I did fix this).

Third (optional, but not a bad idea) remove all existing installs with
"rm -rf /opt/evo/*"

Fourth, run the build and keep a copy of the output:
make 2>&1 | tee log.1

It should succeed. You'll have to type your password at the end when it
asks you.

Check to see if the library above exists in /opt/evo/lib/evolution/2.12.

If it does, does Evo work for you now?

If it does NOT, look in the log file "log.1" and search for errors
related to libeautil. If you're not sure what you're looking for, you
can email the log file to me (directly, not the list: it'll be too big).

I wonder if there's some other package you need to have on your system
to do this build properly, that I've not listed in the prereq list. If
you run this:
dpkg -l autoconf\* automake\* libtool\* | grep ^i

what versions do you see?
