No discussion of new license here. All copyright holders for the Dia code
have released their code under the GPL, and it would be infeasible to find
them all to change it. If the original poster is not willing to
distribute Dia under the GPL, then he cannot distribute it. I as current
maintainer can clearly say that he can distribute it all he wants as longs
as it is done in accordance with the GPL.

Re: Request to include your program on Open Source CD for University of Derby UK students

2007-02-26 Thread Martin Boegelund
I don't see this as a discussion to change the license. As Matt states, it's
just a question of management that doesn't "get" the GPL, so they send out
people to ask if they can use this software.

Trouble is, as I see it, we can't just say "yeah go ahead and use it". We have
to tell Matt that he is free to use it, and in fact, we couldn't stop him if we
wanted, as long as he respects the GPL.

But then we're back to scaring Matt's management, since they don't "get" the
GPL...

Could just be unfamiliarity with the issue. A magazine publisher once
asked me for advice about the GPL; I told him that as long as he
distributed the lincese verbatim with the work, and as long as he
included the source code with the software or provided it on request,
he should be fine. Once he got that, the GPL seemed a lot less scary
to him.

Creating custom properties

2007-02-26 Thread Paul Watson
I would like to be able to create custom properties on a shape to store
additional metadata. Is this possible? Is this only possible if I create the
shapes?

Can a shape have code executed when an event, such as selecting, it occurs?
Can this be written in Python?

I used Google and could not find anything. The Dia--list search page says that
searching crashed sometime last year. Thanks for you help.

It doesn't help that Microsoft calls GPL a virus and uses FUD campaigns. :/

2007-02-26 Thread Lars Clausen
A brief note that pre5 is out, mainly due to the fix of a nasty
text-related crash bug. If no more crashers are found, next Sunday is
set for release.
