The AOO build system is unfortunately not yet ready for a full IDE
integration. On this list there were already some good ideas on how to
improve the build system and we'll hopefully find time to work on it
again. As I personally work on multiple platforms their common
denominator, the command line, is my favorite IDE ;-)

With the rejuvente01 branch I started using XCode again, also because of
its debugger interface that uses LLDB in the backend. I wrote a helper
script to make AOO debugging with LLDB more convenient. Please see
   main/solenv/inc/lldb4aoo.py

To use it run lldb and enter
command script import path-to-script/lldb4aoo.py
or add that line to lldb's configuration file
~/.lldbinit
It mostly helps to view AOO's strings. As the ecosystem of OOo's string
classes was not one of its strong points this helper is quite useful.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Do you mean how to build a
third-party module such as main/icu?

> Notes:

XCode integrates with LLDB and has some additional tools, e.g. for
profiling. But maybe there are extensions for Eclipse to do this too.

This is an API from the UNO framework. From a BiDi perspective it just
exposes the functionality provided by ICU's BiDi algorithm [1]. In AOO's
core BiDi is used in Writer (main/sw/source/core/text), EditEngine
(main/editeng/source/editeng/) and Vcl (mostly
main/vcl/source/gdi/outdev3.cxx 's OutputDevice::ImplLayout method), so
if there are BiDi problems you'll probably find the answer in their code.

As you see our nice project has plenty of work/fun opportunities all
over the place.

Before I forget it: For AOO set the tab-space to four (although I
personally would prefer ts=8 indentation, but the existing AOO codebase
assumes ts=4).

Yes, I understand.

What can I say ... not everything that is useful for AOO, is particularly
important at the same time, and everything is useful only does not immediately
support the preferred AOO by itself

Example:
Apache stands for free software, and thus also for freedom, but that it is not
necessarily the task of Apache to treat general topics of freedom.
Apache could for example give hints/weblinks how to encrypt emails (that would
help people in dictatorships), but that is not the real object of Apache (imho)

I understand what you're saying, but a detail I do not understand:

Why should it be relevant whether companies are integrated or not?

It is clear to me where the problem may be if you paid developers in freelance
projects for any work, and not for concrete work, paid for - but why should it,
_for that Contemplation_ be important whether collaborate companies or not?

That would not be relevant to the project. But if someone has a budget
to spend in improving Apache OpenOffice, this would be relevant to the
project: it would be useful to him to learn that he cannot pay a
developer through Apache, but that (with no involvement and no
responsibilities for Apache) he can post his request on a third-party
website.

Then, like all patches, this contribution may or may not be included in
OpenOffice depending on licensing and technical merit. But at least we
give some more visibility to the OpenOffice "ecosystem", quite similarly
to what we do with consultants.

That said, I have very little experience with crowdfunding sites and I
don't know what the best one would be to find OpenOffice developers.

When companies are involved in a project, they expect tangible returns of
their investments, it's a normal business rule. They have therefore a
significant weight on the development. It does not bother me, it's normal,
and I do not see such a big project as AOO able to evolve on a purely
community base, without the resources and help of external companies.
But maybe some communities could have different priorities and could wish
realize them without the risk to be in minority if they try to realize
them from inside the AOO project. In this case, they might perhaps prefer
to invest for it themselves and keep a better visibility of the progress of
their project than if "their developers" are directly merged into the AOO
project. Only my opinion, of course.

Howdy Edgardo,

Well, the project doesn't maintain a CD any longer, in fact it never had
one that a person could ask for though it would hand them out at
conferences (also a thing of the past), the disk image was simply available
for download.

I suppose you need this disk image ASAP? There is a disk image from an
older release which I could update to 4.0.1 fairly quickly, it would not be
from the project and I could not make it look like it was and you would
have to buy it (~5.00 US) on the upside I could include additional items
(extensions) that the project will not include.

So, if you could wait a week perhaps I could help, but no sooner then that.

We're not aware of any widespread crash issues with OpenOffice 4.0.1

review requested: [Bug 119118] z command in d attribute in svg sets the 'current point' wrong : [Attachment 81710] Set current point correctly and allow non moveto after z

2013-10-05 Thread bugzilla
Regina Henschel has asked for review:
Bug 119118: z command in d attribute in svg sets the 'current point' wrong
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119118

Attachment 81710: Set current point correctly and allow non moveto after z
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=81710&action=edit

--- Additional Comments from Regina Henschel
With the current implementation of the property "closed" it is not possible to
match svg:d totally. Reasoning: svg:d allows, that after a z command, other
commands than m,M may follow. Especially it is possible to use lines. In AOO
the end of this lines are connected to the start point because the property
"close" cannot be set to a part of the path. Despite the mentioned fix in LO,
LO 4.2 shows such svg-graphics still wrong.

My idea is, to finish the path after a z command in any case. If a open path
end in svg:d follows after z, it remains open in AOO. This way marker-ends are
drawn correctly, the shape itself looks correct, and no additional line
appears.

The shortcoming is, that the separated subpath generates an additional
marker-mid at the connecting point, and that this marker and the marker-mid of
the close part in this point, have the wrong direction. And I see no way to
detect a true moveto from such pseudo moveto, which will affect solutions for
bug 123410.

I assume that a wrong marker-mid is not so bad as a wrong marker-end or as
additional lines for shape closing. Therefore I suggest to use this patch, till
there will be at some time a change in the implementation of draw:path.

I will use "keyid".
Do you know if I need to change somewhere in the code itself also ?

I don't know. For a normal language it would probably make sense to have
a look at

main/i18npool/source/localedata/data
too, but in the case of "keyid" this is a fake language (we don't
support text written in the "keyid" language, obviously) so it might be
that what you did is enough.

I have btw changed xx_XX to xx-XX in branch l10n40, so we dont have a mix
of _ and -.

main/i18npool/source/localedata/data consistently uses underscores. On
the other hand, the old "extras/l10n/source" consistently uses dashes...
so I don't know which one is best here. If there's a way to adopt a
common convention, very good.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Re: I'm ready to give up on Open Office

2013-10-05 Thread Vladislav Stevanovic
Hello Bob,

I am just another user of Oo like you. Your letter shows me that you really
love Oo but, problems push you in that way that your are now disappointed.
And I had some bad experiences in my one business with Oo in the past, but
I learned one rule: If there is some bug and makes me problems, I just
install previous version. I now how that is frustrating to using an old
version of Oo! But, we both now that this is open source, there is no
enough developers, and bug fixes are not so fast as we want. Maybe for you
is solution to switch on other office package, but here is also an
alternative for you: go to Bugzilla, reported your problem, and see what
will be happens. I reported several bugs, and in reasonably period they are
fixed. So, if you want to help us and yourself, please feel you freely to
report issue, attached your example and describe in detail what is the
problem. That bug we cannot solve without you.

Best regards,
Wlada ( also one of users who really want to see Oo as much better,
faster, without bugs office software)

Thanks, Ian,

But even if simple, we need first an email address for each forum so users
can send a message. If there is an automated response then better, but
right now there is no way for a new user to "call for help".

The only alternative forums have now (and as a matter of fact, it is being
considered) is to open a mail box on a free mail server and to share the
log-in information between moderators and admins, promoting that address on
the forum itself. But that's a really suboptimal "solution": writing to a
yahoo or gmail address to communicate to the "official community forum of
Apache OpenOffice project" will not be right, I think: something more
"official" will be far better.

Ricardo

2013-10-05 Thread cheryl tonkin
Hi there,

I have used Open Office now for years but on my latest download/update I
found that EDWARDIAN SCRIPT was no longer available.

Can you please place it back in as I use it with my presentation
certificates.

Thanks
