Re: Regarding proceeding for GSoC

2017-11-02 Thread Ignasi Barrera
Hi,

Your starting point should be the GSoC website. There you will find
all the information you need regarding the program and how it works.
If you want to participate by contributing to an Apache project, then
I'd recommend you read this: http://community.apache.org/gsoc.html

Apache projects usually tag JIRA issues with "gsoc2017", etc, so when
GSoC is about to begin it is a good idea to have a look there to
identify possible projects you might be interested in and see if there
are any proposals, although you are free to propose your own project
to the community!

Hi All

Ted has loaded some different versions of the format from Sally, on the wiki
and also Piergiorgio has also loaded a business format of a card that was
created using Moo.

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/COMDEV/Community+Business+Cards

Thanks

Small project events

2017-11-02 Thread Mark Thomas
Hi all,

The Apache Tomcat project has started to organise some small project
level events (conferences, workshops, etc.)

I've created some wiki pages to explain how we organised them and how we
went about managing the finances to minimise (to zero) the financial
risk to both the organisers and the ASF.

Hopefully this is a model that other projects could replicate / adapt
for their own use.

Happy to answer questions.

Great!  Can you add a note that if a PMC and sponsors work together and
do these type of events, we have a mechanism to potentially recognize
them as sponsors.  Reach out to fundraising@a.o.

Obviously, this applies to TomCat as well as the model :-)

I'll add that to my TODO list.

Can it be applied retrospectively (within a reasonable time period like
the last few months)?

I can't think of any reason why not.  Recognition of people who help our
organization is such as simple task and it's factual.

However, I would leave it to the lawyers and accountants if they want to
try and use it as a write off, though.  For example, off the cuff, in
the US, for example, drinks are a 50% entertainment expense but might
have been a 100% contribution expense. Retroactively considering it a
donation for our thanks page = EASY.  Doing so with hopes of a US tax
implication = more complicated but likely defendable.

Regards,

KAM

Schedule for Open Source Summit Paris 2017 Published

2017-11-02 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Everyone

Details of the full schedule including our half-day Apache track at the Open
Source Summit Paris has been published. This conference is completely free to
attend (but you do need to register) and will take place on 6th and 7th
December 2017. Please note that this is not a French language only event and
will and feature presentations in English as well as French.

Our track will take place on 6th December from 14.00 – 18.00. Details of the
full programme can be found at the link below:

http://www.opensourcesummit.paris/preinscription-conferences.html?orderby=time&step=0

Our track is listed under the 'Projets de la fondation Apache” and we have a
mixture of content in English and French.

The conference organisers have asked us to write a short article in French
about our involvement at the conference that they can link to, and promote so
I'll need a volunteer to help me with this :-)

Also we will need to look at starting to promote our track to attendees so
please feel free to use social and other media to get the message out.

Thanks
Sharan
