Re: SystemVM (kvm) : 3 different versions for the same CloudStack version (4.5.1)

2015-06-08 Thread Erik Weber
I'm up for it, delivering from an official ASF source gives it a sense of
more authenticity (IMHO).

Could we host the RPM/DEB repos there as well?

If we some how could come up with a way for the packaging to provide some
sort of proof of what commit it is built from, it would be easier for users
to verify that they are using the right version where using other vendor
versions.

I have recently implemented SSL proxy in front of CS. This way seems to be
more practical than deploying certificates directly into Tomcat. After such
modification session persistence does not work anymore. So basically I see no
point of this change anymore. May be we need to find better solution if
possible?

Session persistence is not working on any scenario atm. The aim of this is
to fix that. The security measure is aimed to prevent browser vulnerability,
which using SSL doesn't prevent. Why do you say this is not needed any more?

I have applied you patch manually and it worked for HTTP. I have expected
that if I put HTTPS proxy in front of it - it will continue to work. But at
HTTPS session if I do "F5" to refresh page -- I am logged off. So from the
end-user perspective there is no (visual) difference. I would like to
understand what problem are we going to solve? It seems for me it is not
clearly defined. Or may be I understood it in a wrong way. I have expected that
F5 does not brake session.

[HELP needed] haproxy vs mysql client timeout

2015-06-08 Thread Andrija Panic
Hi,

I'm running into intermittent problems with ACS 4.5.1 mgmt server - it
seems it's loosing connection to the haproxy/mysql, since we are using
haproxy VIP to in db.properties, and this haproxy is using 1 galera node in
the backend section...(2 others are backup etc).

haproxy timeout is 100sec.
mysql timeouts are all defaults, except innodb_lock_wait_timeout.

+-+--+
| Variable_name   | Value|
+-+--+
| connect_timeout | 10   |
| delayed_insert_timeout  | 300  |
| have_statement_timeout  | YES  |
| innodb_flush_log_at_timeout | 1|
| innodb_lock_wait_timeout| 600  |
| innodb_rollback_on_timeout  | ON   |
| interactive_timeout | 28800|
| net_read_timeout| 30   |
| net_write_timeout   | 60   |
| thread_pool_idle_timeout| 60   |
| wait_timeout| 28800|
+-+--+

To make things more interesting, all 3 servers (acs mgmt, haproxy,
galera-node1) are on the same physical host, so I rule out network
issues... and I dont see anything interesting in the haproxy logs, also no
backend downtimes etc...

The errors are like folowing, from mgmt logs, but after that mgmt server
continues to work fine...

Any suggestions on tuning timeouts ?

[GitHub] cloudstack pull request: Reinstate working sessions in browser

2015-06-08 Thread rsafonseca
Github user rsafonseca commented on the pull request:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/308#issuecomment-109981697

@vadimkim
Let me try to break it down:

In the past, with the purpose of preventing a browser vulnerability,
session persistence was completely broken, so currently, there is no session
persistence with either HTTP or HTTPS from ACS 4.3.x to 4.6.x, that is, if you
press F5, you will be logged out.

This fix reenables persistence, and does so while improving on the security
measure that was the objective that led to session persistence being broken.

With this patch, both HTTP and HTTPS are working fine with session
persistence, and the browser vulnerability (XSS attack) is eliminated. SSL
would not protect against a XSS attack, it would only protect from the fact
that you are sending your credentials and sessionkey unencrypted from your
machine to the server. If you are doing so over a secure network that you
trust, using SSL might even be irrelevant, depending on the situation. So, SSL
will only protect your credentials/session on the transport layer, other nasty
XSS scripts might still gain access to whatever is stored in your browser.
Setting the cookie as HttpOnly prevents your own browser from reading it, and
thus makes that information safe from XSS.

If you're having issues with a reverse proxy in front of it, the issue is
probably with the reverse proxy or browser config... here's where i see it
might be going wrong on your setup:
- Proxy is destroying the cookie;
- Proxy is not allowing the cookie in the first place;
- Proxy if forcing a new session to be generated;
- Browser isn't allowing cookies on the https url (perhaps configured
manually to always reject cookies and an exception for the http:// cloudstack
url ?)
- Proxy might be delivering a cached version of cloudStack.js without the
fix;

Could you share some more info on your reverse proxy setup? I'll can try to
reproduce your issue and give you a hand :)

Can you point the mgmt server directly at a single Galera node (removing
haproxy), and see if the problem persists?

Is your Galera cluster healthy? Could you be seeing latency on commit?

Will try  Simon.

I expect no latency issues, since these 3 VMs are all on same

latency - and zero seconds backend downtime...

Not sure where to dig further...

Re: [HELP needed] haproxy vs mysql client timeout

2015-06-08 Thread Andrija Panic
Actually, no...

On haproxy I have allowed all traffic with input interface matching the
internal interface (eth0), rest of nodes no firewall whatsoever (which will
be changed)..

[GitHub] cloudstack pull request: Reinstate working sessions in browser

2015-06-08 Thread vadimkim

@rsafonseca
Thank you for explanation. I will try to put my points here:
1. For public cloud HTTPS must be used (this is not an option) and external
SSL offload (proxy) should not brake entire logic.
2. While I have found, that most of the logic works just perfect behind the
proxy there are 2 issues that need to be fixed
* login procedure somewhere uses direct path (not relative) and tried to
call /client/api?command directly. I have fixed it by 1 rewrite rule (see
below). Otherwise login is not possible -- 404 response.
* F5 brakes session if I work over HTTPS proxy. Hope we will fix it
together.

I am using very simple nginx conf. Pure proxy:
```
server {
listen 443 ssl;
server_name kickcloud.net;
ssl_certificate   /usr/local/etc/ssl/my.crt;
ssl_certificate_key   /usr/local/etc/ssl/my.key;
ssl_session_cache  builtin:1000  shared:SSL:10m;
ssl_protocols  TLSv1 TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2;
ssl_ciphers HIGH:!aNULL:!eNULL:!EXPORT:!CAMELLIA:!DES:!MD5:!PSK:!RC4;
ssl_prefer_server_ciphers on;
access_log/var/log/nginx/kickckloud.net.log;
location / {
  rewrite /client(.*) $1  last;
  proxy_set_headerX-Real-IP $remote_addr;
  proxy_set_headerX-Forwarded-Server $host;
  proxy_set_headerX-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
  proxy_set_headerX-Forwarded-Proto $scheme;
  proxy_pass  http://x.x.x.x:8080/client/;
  proxy_redirect  default;
  proxy_read_timeout  90;
}
  }
```

x.x.x.x -- backend server where Cloudstack runs
public name that you can access and check *cloudStack.js* is here:
https://kickcloud.net/. I have some more redirects from ports 8080 and 80 to
443, but they are not relevant here I assume.

@vadimkim
It seems like you're not passing to cookies over to the client on that
config :)

Try setting:
proxy_pass_header  Set-Cookie;
proxy_pass_header  P3P;

Since your internal domain may not be the same as the external, you might
also need some additional config like:
proxy_cookie_domain kickcloud.net $host;
sub_filter  "kickcloud.net"   $host;
Or something similar :)

I will try to reproduce your setup when i have some time to figure out a
config that works for sure, but try these configs in the mean while :)

Either way, this seems like an issue with the proxy config itself, and
there should be no need to adjust code for that situation ;)

About the redirect rule, i will soon bake a patch that will render that
unnecessary, but for now, there should be no problem with just rewriting it in
the proxy :)
I'll discuss this with the others on wednesday's meetup in SBP

should we start using packages.apache.org with 4.6, has 4.5 doc point to
apt-get.eu ?

Our URL would be something like this packages.apache.org/cloudstack ?

[GitHub] cloudstack pull request: Embedded Tomcat & Jetty

Embedded Tomcat & Jetty

Well, this spruces things up a bit :)

Some of the features/fixes (i may have forgotten a couple as this involved
a lot of changes ;) )

- Embedded Tomcat support
- Embedded Jetty support
- Reduce management .deb package to roughly half the size
- Reduce common .rpm package to roughly half the size
- Transparent support for more distros like Fedora 21
- Reduced dependencies on the packages, such as mysql-connector-java which
are now bundled
- Upgraded Jetty version used by Travis from oldie and discontinued morbay
6.x version to current eclipse 9.x version
- Tidy up debian packaging under /packaging and include support on
package.sh
- Cleanup of a lot of duplicate files which made it harder to maintain and
caused some fixes to be implemented only for some distros
- Consolidates a few configs that were different across distros and
shouldn't be
- Enables running with any version of openjdk runtime and compiling with
any version of openjdk devel as long as they meet the minimum requirements
(Java 7+) without conflicting with other packages.

The package.sh script packages ASF Tomcat by default, you can package it
with Jetty instead by passing -j or --jetty :)

There's still a couple more things to consolidate and a couple more places
to remove hardcoding of configs like the cloud user, but i'll take care of that
on a later PR :)

You can merge this pull request into a Git repository by running:

$ git pull https://github.com/rsafonseca/cloudstack fixpackaging2

Alternatively you can review and apply these changes as the patch at:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/372.patch

To close this pull request, make a commit to your master/trunk branch
with (at least) the following in the commit message:

This closes #372

commit decde6d129ce8c87a82d8aa00a6723b91c322e02
Author: Rafael da Fonseca
Date:   2015-05-03T18:59:53Z

Tomcat packaging

Reduced cloudstack-management_4.6.0-snapshot_all.deb size from 211Mb to
94Mb (CentOS is 92Mb)
This deb file was packing two copies of the systemvm (which is alread
packed in cloudstack-common), so removed like in CentOS RPM specs

Fedora 21 support for management :)
Removed Fedora specific branches (symlink fedora2x points to centos7 so,
using same installer :)
Small cleanup of duplicate files

Added embedded jetty
Support for choosing tomcat or jetty on package.sh
Removed mysql driver distro dependency
Replaced old mortbay jetty 6 with eclipse jetty 9
Removed duplicate files

Tidy up debian packaging

Make things work on debian
Cleanup, fixes, distro abstraction, etc

Fix simulator for new jetty plugin
Fix servlet engines on older mvn version

Config jetty version

Fix juli logging manager error on tomcat

Fix dep problem with mysqlha plugin

2015-06-08 Thread Sebastien Goasguen
Folks,

We need to freeze 4.6 asap.

I originally agreed to RM 4.6 and Daan also stepped up.

But I would like to work on doing a release of ec2stack and gcestack, so I will
step down from 4.6 RM.

Anybody wants to jump in.

There is already a ton of things in 4.6 and we need to release.

Ideally we also need to QA directly on master, so that we can build 4.7 on top
of a stable release.

Good idea. Can you suggest a hard date though, say first week of July? This
will buy us some time to merge on-going efforts, review and merge pending PRs
and fix critical issues shared on dev MLs.

There are few outstanding issues that I would have wanted in 4.6, but I guess
they can be done in 4.7:

- Debian 8 based systemvm template, VR cleanup and improvements
- Replacing openswan with strongswan
- ipv6 support, routed ipv4/ipv6 network support and network refactoring work

> I originally agreed to RM 4.6 and Daan also stepped up.

Can you also share your plan with respect to release schedules once we decide
on a freeze date for 4.6? Plans or timelines for 4.7?

If master will be frozen (good idea btw, instead of cutting a separate branch)
till 4.6 is released, how should the developer community work on refactoring
work and new features?

Also, we will need to fix packaging if we want to support systemd based Debian
8 and Ubuntu 15.04, also improve packaging for CentOS7 and Fedora 21/22.

Hi @bhaisaab :)
The new https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/372 was built on top of
this one, so all the fixes in this are also in the other one.
I do think the other one is the way to go, it includes a few more fixes and
cleanup than this one and gives the option to select the servlet engine that
gets auto packed into the rpm which i hope will be a popular change. So...
closing...

Hi @terbolous
I'm in no way a licensing expert, but don't think there's any
incompatibility with the licensing.. but I'll leave that for the experts to say
their .2c
I guess that mainly it was not shipped because it was just not working when
you bundled it in the webapp, it was missing the driver instantiation which it
relied on the servlet engine to do.. that is taken care of now :)

About the testing, I've tested manually deploying a datacenter with this
package in:
Ubuntu 12.04.5
Centos 6.6
Centos 7
Fedora 21

Sadly, i've done no testing on upgrades, but i can easily do so in a few
days and fix whatever issue may arise... although i don't foresee any issues.
I've also tested running marvin locally, and it's working fine :)
All distros were tested with both tomcat and jetty, except Fedora 21 which
i only tested with tomcat, but should be all the same.

Re: 4.6

2015-06-08 Thread Remi Bergsma
Hi,

I can jump in and work with Rohit and Daan to make 4.6 happen.

+1 for the QA on master. It would be best if we could then all focus on
stabilizing 4.6 aka master and wait with refactor stuff and new features until
4.6 is out, which is the start of 4.7.

On the other hand, building new features in the mean time isn't a big issue, as
rebasing to a master that gets more stable every day is much easier than it is
today I'd say. You just cannot merge new stuff until 4.6 is out.

Let's write down some guidelines and see if this approach makes sense.

Regards, Remi

We can't bundle mysql-connector-java. It is licensed as GPL which is CatX
and thus verboten. We can make it a system dependency.

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/373

CLOUDSTACK-3317 - DVS does not support management\storage network

Added support for Management and Storage Network traffic over VMware DVS in
CloudStack deployments. Also added support for storage VLAN over dvPortGroup.

Signed-off-by: Sateesh Chodapuneedi

CLOUDSTACK-3317 - DVS does not support management\storage network

Use non-zero dvport count while updating dvportgroups of system traffic.
Updated configuration compare logic to avoid update dvportgroup operation
unless required.
This would help improve speed in vm/network deployment as the update calls
would reduce. Also improved logging.

Signed-off-by: Sateesh Chodapuneedi

Added unit tests covering the code changes in this branch/feature
development
Integration tests are already present in master branch
Signed-off-by: Sateesh Chodapuneedi

Added support for Management and Storage Network traffic over VMware DVS in
CloudStack deployments. Also added support for storage VLAN over dvPortGroup.

Hi there @rsafonseca

Cool to see you contribution, thanks for that, but I think the PRs should
be broken down. You listed 11 changes and said that you might have forgotten
another few. That's a bit dangerous and also make testing the PR way to
expansive for the reviewers.

We should have 1 PR per feature/fix, or perhaps a couple of fixes,
depending on their size (fixing findbugs is a good example).

Another good practice is to add the environment where the things were
tested, and also the steps you took to test it, in the PR. Adding those
afterwards, as comments, it's also not very good to follow.

Reading your list I would say that you have at least 4 PRs.

1. Tomcat/Jetty changes
2. Packaging
3. Configs and Distros
4. JDK version

In addition, the a PR should be independent of any other. Thus, we could
for example test 4 and merge it without waiting for 2 or 3.

If PR follows that structure I think we can get them merge way faster than
now.

I hope you appreciate the feedback. We are working to achieve the same goal.

Cheers,
Wilder

I'm with Wilder on this. Thank you for being active and submitting really
useful patches - its much appreciated. However, it would be best if you can
split the commits into multiples - as 1 fix per commit (or more if related).

Mainly, it would be easier to revert a commit - in case something is wrong
and loose 1 functionality VS reverting 1 commit because 1 item is broken, but
as cascade effect, 10 fixes will be reverted as well.

Regards
ilya

Re: [PROPOSAL] iSCSI and HA support in Hyper-V

2015-06-08 Thread Anshul Gangwar
Can somebody have a look at pull request
https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/351 and merge it.

After these changes new user have to create a separate zone for failover
clustering on Hyper-V as failover clustering will not work properly with mixed
zone i.e. some hosts in failover cluster and some are not. After this either
all hosts should be failover cluster in a zone or none in failover cluster is
zone. Mixing them will lead to unexpected behaviours. More details are
available in FS
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/iSCSI+and+HA+support+in+Hyper-V.

Thanks,
Anshul

Daan,
Its using existing framework. Its similar to VMware in implementation for HA of
VMs and for CSV its using the existing PreSetup storage type. It has mainly the
agent side changes which are specific to Hyper-V.

Anshul,

Good thing to work on. Can you include parallels and references to other
hypervisors. I would not like to see this implemented in every hypervisor
in a different way. We are creating or rather extending technical debt if
we don't unify the way this is implemented across hypervisors.

Hi,

I would like to propose the iSCSI and HA support in Hyper-V feature. With
this feature we will be adding support for Failover clustering in Hyper-V
which will enable us to utilize the native HA and CSV support provided by
the Hyper-V. With addition of CSV we can support any storage option
including iSCSI which is supported by Hyper-V.

Please review FS for feature located at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/iSCSI+and+HA+support+in+Hyper-V
and let me know your comments.

Regards,
Anshul
