[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Back when I used to use Karmic, I switched to the Dust theme and then began experiencing this bug with the corrupted icons. I'm not sure if it was because of the theme engine used in the Dust theme, or because of my setting of a background image on the panel (/usr/share/themes/Dust /panel-background.png). Ambiance uses a panel background image, but Clearlooks does not. So, I will be running my laptop with the Clearlooks theme combined with Ambiance's panel background image (/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/panel_bg.png) and see what happens. Unfortunately, changing Ambiance's panel to use a solid color at 100% opacity doesn't seem to work--there are still elements of the background image present behind the menus and icons. Otherwise, this would seem like a logical test to try. I'll post back with the results. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Just to clarify, when I used the Dust theme back in the day, I had to manually set the background image on the panel--the theme doesn't use it by default. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
One more thing to try, just to weed out variables: 1) Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc 2) Find the following line: bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "panel_bg.png" and change it to: # bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "panel_bg.png" This will disable the background image on the panel. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Okay, I can confirm that this bug is NOT caused by the panel background image. A few reboots after disabling the Ambiance theme's panel background, I got the corruption again. Now, I have yet to get the corruption using Lucid's version of the Dust theme, even though it also uses the Murrine engine. So, here are three configs on my laptop and their results: 1) Lucid with Ambiance theme: corruption 2) Karmic with Dust theme: corruption 3) Lucid with Dust theme: no corruption (after a few days of use w/ frequent rebooting... I will keep testing) Both Ambiance and Dust use the Murrine theme engine. If the Lucid version of the Dust theme can be verified to not have the corruption glitch, then we might be able to get some clues as to what exactly in the Murrine engine is causing this glitch. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Update: 3) Lucid with Dust theme: No corruption after several days of usage and lots of reboots. Dust uses Murrine, but doesn't seem to suffer from the corruption issue, at least with the version included with Lucid. The version in Karmic would cause corruption for me when I used to use that version of Ubuntu. It might be possible to narrow down the cause of the bug by examining the differences between the two versions of Dust, and also the differences between Lucid's Dust and Ambiance themes. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 469818] [NEW] taskbar icons corrupted after logging out and back in
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel ** Bug Description ** Sometimes when I log out and then back in, the rightmost taskbar icon fails to display correctly (it appears to be displaying a bit of graphics from the element to its left). In the attached screenshot, you can see what it should appear like in the top example and an example of the corruption on the bottom. ** Notes ** - I am using the Dust theme with the Dust toolbar graphic, so I am not sure if that is contributing to the problem. - Any expected change to the icon (such as connecting to a network or change of signal strength) does not redraw that area of the panel. I can still click on the area where the icon should be, and it behaves normally. - The screenshots were taken after I removed Pulseaudio, so the volume control icon is no longer present. Prior to removing Pulseaudio, the network manager would display as the volume control icon, since the volume control icon was to the left of the network manager. ** My System ** PC: HP Pavilion dv1550se laptop CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz RAM: 1GB DDR400 Video: Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller Sound: 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller OS: Ubuntu 9.10 w/ all updates as of 11/1/09 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Nov 1 18:33:06 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Package: gnome-panel 1:2.28.0-0ubuntu6 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: gnome-panel Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 XsessionErrors: (gnome-settings-daemon:1946): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (gnome-settings-daemon:1946): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (nautilus:2039): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed (polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1:2062): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `initialization_value != 0' failed (gnome-panel:2038): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width -1 and height 24 ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- taskbar icons corrupted after logging out and back in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 469818] Re: taskbar icons corrupted after logging out and back in
1. It is reproducible, but it doesn't happen very often, so there are no 100% reproducible steps that I've found. 2. When the bug occurs, it's usually when I'm logging on and off, either with one user, or with multiple accounts. For example, just yesterday, the bug occurred again when setting up a guest account on my laptop. After I tested the guest account, I logged back in as my primary user, and saw what appeared to be two volume control icons in my system tray (instead of one volume control and one network manager icon). Here, I have to correct two statements in my initial report. 1) I had initially stated, "I can still click on the area where the icon should be, and it behaves normally." Well, when the bug occured yesterday, I realized that was not true. 2) I had initially stated, "The rightmost taskbar icon fails to display correctly (it appears to be displaying a bit of graphics from the element to its left)." When the bug occurred yesterday, the corrupted networkmanager icon was to the left of the volume control, but assumed the appearance of the volume control. So, it appears that the problem may not be with the panel after all, but with the network manager. As of now, here is my best guess as to what is happening: 1) Somehow the network manager is becoming unresponsive. 2) When the network manager's tray icon is to be drawn, the network manager never draws its icon, leaving whatever was previously in that place graphically still on the screen. I realize that this bug report isn't very good, and I apologize. I had too many assumptions in my initial report (and possibly in this one as well). -- taskbar icons corrupted after logging out and back in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead
I was trying to troubleshoot a freezing Java applet for a friend, so I started Firefox from the terminal. After the Java applet froze, I looked in the terminal and found a stream of the "...trouble ahead" messages. I've been able to consistently reproduce this on two systems now, so maybe it is a usable test case. The only caveat is you need to have a TD Ameritrade account (which I don't). Anyway, here's what I did: 1) I am using sun-java6 NOT openjdk/icedtea. 2) Open the TD Ameritrade Command Center. 3) Once the streamer has loaded, click on the settings button (looks like a wrench) to open the streamer settings. The settings window begins to appear, but is only partially drawn (no text), then it freezes up so badly that the system monitor cannot kill the task. Other applications can be used and closed, but the Java app will just sit there frozen until the system is rebooted. This doesn't happen using Karmic, only Lucid. I have tested it on two systems, both using an Intel graphics chipset (I don't know if that matters). The next time I am over at my friend's place, I will try to get more information so I can create a proper bug report. -- Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The updated package doesn't work for me either. On my system, if I unplug the AC soon after booting up, it doesn't trigger the lid-closed event. However, if I close and open the lid, then trying to unplug the AC afterward will trigger the lid-close event. The lid-closed event will still sometimes be triggered by unplugging the AC cord even if I haven't closed the lid--just not right after booting up. This behavior was present with the previous version of gnome-power-manager and hasn't changed at all with the updated package (2.30.0-0ubuntu1ppa1). ** My System ** PC: HP Pavilion dv1550se laptop CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz RAM: 1GB DDR400 Video: Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller Sound: 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller OS: Ubuntu 10.04 i386 w/ all updates as of 6/19/2010 (including 2.6.32-22 kernel) -- Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 481312] Re: Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC
David, on my system, the lid-closed event only triggers when I unplug the power, at the same instant the "Battery Charging" notification appears". When I plug the power back in, it acts as it should (screen gets brighter, no lid-closed event triggered). So, if your patch was to address the lid-closed event on power connect, then it seems to be fixed with your package on my system. It's just the power-disconnect that seems to be the problem (which you mentioned was upower's fault). -- Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

David, should I file a new bug report for my specific hardware as well? Per David Tombs' comment #55 in bug #481312 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/481312/comments/55), this is a upower bug, not gnome-power- manager. ** Package changed: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) => upower (Ubuntu) -- disconnecting AC power registers as lid close event https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 481312] Re: Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC
Hi David. I had already filed a bug (bug #561656), but it was under gnome-power-manager, so I have changed it to upower instead. Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide. -- Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 561656] Re: disconnecting AC power registers as lid close event
Never mind... just tested again and it's still happening. Don't know why it was working earlier. I had my lid close event set to blank screen. When I tested and disconnecting the power didn't blank my screen any more, I thought I could safely set my lid close event back to suspend. Now that I have done that, when I disconnect the AC power, my computer suspends. Changed it back to "Blank Screen", and now it's back to blanking the screen when I disconnect AC power. Better than suspending every time, I guess. Grrr... this is frustrating; I thought this bug had finally been fixed, but I can't find the old bug report. -- disconnecting AC power registers as lid close event https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
