Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

** Bug Description **
If I change certain user settings (such as system theme in the appearance
applet or changing volume) and then quickly log out, the changes are not saved.
However, if I wait longer (perhaps a minute or more) before logging out, the
changes are saved.

Strangely, this does not happen with the second user account I created,
only the first. This problem is reproducible for me over two installs
of Karmic.

Two factors that might be playing a role in this: I am using home
encryption and EXT4.
