[Bug 34136] After "ejecting" a USB volume, it is never redetected.

2006-03-08 Thread Jacob D'Agostino
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34136

Affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Note: I am using Dapper.

I have an external USB hard drive. This hard drive has its own power
switch and power supply. There are two partitions on this drive, one
FAT32 and one NTFS. When I want to turn off this drive, I right-click on
one of the partitions shown in the "computer:///" in Nautilus and click
"Eject" (since "Unmount Volume" is not in that menu anymore. Then I turn
off the drive's power.

When I turn the drive back on, it is not re-detected or re-mounted. In
fact, the drive is not re-detected or re-mounted when I unplug it from
my USB port and then plug it back in. There seems to be nothing short of
rebooting that will cause GNOME to remount the drive.

[Bug 42247] gstreamer0.10 refuses to play certain valid MP3s (not all, but some)

2006-04-30 Thread Jacob D'Agostino
Public bug reported:

Affects: gst-plugins-ugly0.10 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Certain MP3 files in my collection will not play with gstreamer. I have tested
these files with xine and they work fine. They also play correctly under
several Windows-based players. Under anything powered by gstreamer0.10,
however, they fail. A nice freely available example of MP3s (I have others, but
distributing them would violate copyright laws, of course) that fail to play
under gstreamer0.10 is the Penny Arcade Podcast:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/padlc.xml
Every one of these files fails to play with gstreamer0.10, and plays fine on a
player with the xine backend (totem-xine or amaroK, to name two).

I just imported the podcast into Rhythmbox. I dunno, maybe it's just a
podcast issue with that one, but I've got a copy of a few Hendrix songs
that have the same symptoms as I've said. I suppose I could e-mail them
to you privately if you owned a copy of The Ultimate Experience.

It begins playing, but a split-second later it stops and moves to the
next song and displays a big red error symbol in the "Now Playing"
column. If I right-click on the song and go into Properties, I see (next
to an error icon) a message saying "Internal Data Flow Error". (The same
message is shown for my other tracks that refuse to play).

When playing the file with

it plays just fine.

This is weird. Could it be a problem with the uri locator or something?

2006-05-08 Thread Jacob D'Agostino
Actually, the oddest thing happened recently. I tried the MP3s on my
onboard sound card (SIS something or other) and they worked fine. (I
used to be playing them on my USB Audigy 2 NX).

Now, though, I can't seem to re-enable the Audigy as a sound playback
device.

Weird.

2006-05-09 Thread Jacob D'Agostino
Okay, I've managed to get my SB Audigy 2 NX working again, which means
that the MP3s that worked on my onboard sound card now again refuse to
play. After installing your package, the files still refuse to play,
just as before.

Could it be an issue with the drivers for the sound card?

[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs

2007-09-01 Thread Jacob D'Agostino
You can check or uncheck specific programs, but you can't move them up
or down in the list. I've got a little script that automatically unlocks
my gnome keyring for me, but I need to run it before NetworkManager (or
else it bugs me for the password anyway to use my WPA key). There's no
way to change it so that my script runs first. In fact, unless it's just
a really weird coincidence, the programs are listed in alphabetical
order. What? Why? That makes *no* sense. Should I file a bug report
upstream?

It looks like this "updated version" results in a serious loss in
functionality. Is there any way to backport the older deskbar up to
gutsy, or will that screw up dependencies? Why are we "upgrading" to
this version, anyway?
