[Bug 210957] [NEW] "Connect to server" sftp mount does not save folder location
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Here is how to reporduce: 1) In nautilius go to file menu, click 'connect to server' 2) In the drop down select SSH as the connection protocol and enter server address (e.g. cs.pdx.edu) 3) enter your username (e.g. akshay) and the full path to your home folder (e.g. /u/akshay) 4) A new nautilius window is opened in the folder (e.g. /u/akshay) on the server and all is well 5) Now go to the desktop and click the icon created for this location (e.g. sftp on cs.pdx.edu) 6) A new nautilus window opens up in the "/" directory not in the originally entered home directory (e.g. /u/akshay) Gutsy used to save this home folder location but in hardy this feature is broken. It always takes you to the root of the file system on the server rather than the folder location entered by the user. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "Connect to server" sftp mount does not save folder location https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210957 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 213098] [NEW] Sub-standard boot up experience with hardy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This applies to the time after usplash ends (i.e. ubuntu boots up) and the desktop starts. The overall user experience is not pleasant at all. 1. The rotating disk (the hourglass equivalent) comes up and starts blinking in two different places on the screen. The screen is black at this point. ** issue: Why does it blink in two different places? Why does it blink at all? Why is the screen redrawn? 2. We then see a blank orange screen (my gdm background is set to orange) with the rotation disk in front for a few seconds and the gdm theme gets loaded ** issue: Why is there a need to show the black screen, and then the orange screen and then the theme? Why not move straight from usplash to the login screen (gdm themed login)? 3. You can see the theme being drawn from top to bottom in little "squares" ** issue: Why can't the login screen appear all at once? why is it getting "drawn" in front of the user in segments? 4. Then, after you log in you see the orange background (again) which blinks two times on my laptop (lenovo x61) ** issue: Again, why not just wait at the login screen and say something like "Loading please wait..." at the bottom of the login screen? Or instead of showing the blank orange screen (the color of the set background) show some text in between like "Loading desktop please wait"? Why not tell the user what's happening? Also, why does the screen need to blink? 5. Next you see a desktop thats 80% loaded i.e. some objects are not completely drawn on the screen yet, so you might see some squiggly lines, or the panel is half drawn and looks like a fuzzy net etc. ** issue: Why not show a desktop thats drawn 100%? And if it needs to be drawn in front of the user then at least it can be done more elegantly than lines being drawn here and there, or half drawn gnome-panels that later get redrawn to their normal appearance. I know I sound negative and probably ignorant. This is mostly because I would not understand how difficult these issues are to fix. I know you guys put in great efforts to provide us with a solid and stable linux distro, so these problems might not seem too big. I am just providing feedback as an end user and his overall visual experience with Ubuntu, I believe this deserves more importance than it is given today. Focus always seems to be on new applications and new fancy features but sometimes it might also be good to polish existing applications rather than always building something new (and ending up with more bugs in the process). ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Sub-standard boot up experience with hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 219351] [NEW] evince does not correctly display embedded images in eps by inkscape
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince However, 'gv' does do it successfully but it takes a lot of time to load all the images. [Bug 224867] Re: new files opened in evince does not bring its window to top
Steps to reproduce. You will need to have firefox and be on a page that has a link to a (say) postscript document. Lets call it 'psdoc.ps' for this test, Test 1: 1. open evince first with any other document on your PC 2. open firefox and maximize it 3. In firefox, go to the page with the link to 'psdoc.ps' 4. click on link to 'psdoc.ps' 5. evince window will open on top. Now, close that evince window 6. Click on the same link (to 'psdoc.ps') again 7. Evince will not come to top of firefox, leaving the user confused Test 2: 1. open firefox and maximize it 2. In firefox, go to the page with the link to 'psdoc.ps' 3. click on link to 'psdoc.ps' 4. evince window will open on top 5. Now, click anywhere on the firefox window to bring it back on top 6. click on link to 'psdoc.ps' again 7. Re: [Bug 224867] Re: new files opened in evince does not bring its window to top
I have to get this out, I am sorry. Intrepid is in *alpha*, I don't have non-production machines, this is an absurd request to a person who took the time to find the bug. Its like asking them to your job for you. This is the trend I see in Ubuntu bug reporting. User files bug, no one looks at it for months, then they mark it as lacking information (when it does not, I even have the steps to reproduce it and have filed the bug against hardy *not* intrepid), they expect users to do some kind of massive test report for them and because they don't they finally mark the bug closed. Hurray, problem solved. This is the second of my bugs where I have been asked to devote some unusual amount of time to provide more information. I feel it to be completely unnecessary since some time spent by the developer on the problem can solve it. This is just a way of moving responsibility around. I ain't filing any more bugs.
