Bug#444483: Is this bug responsible for not sourcing ~/.profile ?
Hello, I just tried out xdm (instead of gdm) but noticed that .profile is not sourced. Moving all '@include's at the bottom in /etc/pam.d/xdm didn't make a difference either (or am I completely misunderstanding this?). Help with Debian-Live - low resolution
Hello, I am hoping for help in resolving low screen resolution issues within my debian-live builds compared to my knoppix re-mastered versions. I detail one example a GeForce4 MX 440 but a bigger program for me is that even modern HP Proliant servers still use Ati Rage. In all these examples I can only select a max resolution of 800x600. I would like 1024x768 as I can with Knoppix V5.3.1 My debian-live is a lenny build with kde core V3.5.10. I now list what I hope is relevent info, sorry it's so long. I am of couse more than happy to supply further info and to try new builds with any new suggestions etc. My debian-live xorg.conf is sparse to say the least. Ideally I am looking for an auto-detect solution as in Knoppix. Apologies if I am asking too much and/or in the wrong place. Hi! It's very difficult for me to send this bug report without fonctionnal graphic interface. It's impossible for me to make a screenshot without keyboard. It's very difficult for me to downgrade all the fine package to restaure a fonctionnal version of xserver before upgrade with the last testing packages. It's very difficult for me to send a bug report without graphical tool. But ... I'm just reinstalled the last xserver version with a aptitude dist-upgrade command. I restarted X server without problem. But, when I restart my computer, I have the same problem than my fisrt post. PS: This AGP card I have to have an xorg.conf because EXA didn't used to be the default, and I have to force the mode to 4x, otherwise it starts making my mouse cursor jiggle from *something*, and eventually bring the whole box down (hard lock-up) (separate issue). The mode doesn't get detected properly I suspect, since it spits out something like "putting the card into 0x mode" in the log. Bug#548321: #548321 [xterm] abort() a bit after catting binary file
>Is this running in koi8rxterm (which sets locale to ru_RU.KOI8-R and turns on the -k8 option), or just in xterm by itself? Just in plain xterm. bash shell, wmaker window manager. Farther, catting larger portion of this file abort()s it without resizing. I am running: $xterm -e /bin/dash In new xterm: $zcat ~/Desktop/fail.gz Resize window 1 character right, it aborts. Locale setting is en_US.UTF-8. I get xterm and libutempter0 debs to my nearby debian testing-favor box. With original packages (xterm 235-2 and no libutempter), i got no abort. With newly upgraded xterm I reproduced it where. LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, xfce window manager where. Bug#549064: x11-xserver-utils: xmodmap hangs X for several minutes
Package: x11-xserver-utils Version: 7.4+2 Severity: normal When running xmodmap to change the keymap (i.e., not to just print them), X hangs afterwards for several minutes until normal operation is resumed. By "hang" I mean: Mouse pointer moves, but no screen refresh; can change to text console. The processes "X", "dbus-daemon", "xfconf" and "xfwm4" use 100% cpu in the meantime. I honestly do not know which component is to blame, but I'm filing it for the triggering component (xmodmap) just to do something. This may be related to the linux scheduler, maybe triggering some race, see http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/46642/. But the scheduler is just part of it... it can not explain the following: During the hang, I have tried to monitor the dbus traffic. Bug#549085: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X server crashes with SDL application when no window manager is running
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.9.0-1 Severity: normal Running X server, and then running an SDL application results in a crash of the entire X server in case a window manager is not started. Example use case: I am writing a login manager, and the easiest way to open graphics surface (to me) is by using SDL. As soon as SDL launches, the server crashes. This does not happen when using Xephyr, so I conclude this is probably a bug in the Intel drivers. Repro steps: >From tty console, perform these steps: 1. X -ac :1 2. DISPLAY=:1 abuse.sdl Possibly related: Running window manager such as metacity, then killing it, also results in a crash with same backtrace. This is blocking me from developing this ultra-cool-hyper-neato login manager, since if I run a window manager and then don't kill it, gnome-session will happily do it for me and the end result is the same: crash of the entire X server. Bug#549085: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X server crashes with SDL application when no window manager is running
retitle 549085 xserver-xorg-core: When first x client closes connection, X.org crashes reassign 549085 xserver-xorg-core thanks Spam, I know, I know. However, with help of one friend, the bug was reproduced with xterm instead of an SDL client, and also on Silicon Motion SM710. So, I'm reassigning (or at least attempting to reassign) this bug to xserver-xorg-core. Correct repro steps: 1. Switch to a tty vt. 2. X -ac :1 3. DISPLAY=:1 xterm 4. ctrl+c on the tty vt where you launched xterm. 5. Observe X crashing. Same thing happens if a window manager is launched. I presume SDL crashes immediately because it opens a client connection to X.org, closes it soon afterwards, and then opens another one. Thus, after closing the first connection, there is a crash and the second one (the one that actually opens a window) never happens. This is just a guess. -- Regards, Ivan Vučica

However I have found and already sent some extra information and how to reproduce it easily. Namely, when the first X client that connected to the X server closes the connection, the crash happens. If this first client was a WM, then terminating the WM crashes Xorg. If this first client was xterm, then terminating xterm crashes Xorg. I presume that SDL starts some auxiliary X connection that when it's closed, causes the crash. Additionally, this bug is at least several months old over here. -- Regards, Ivan Vučica

Bug#549085: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X server crashes with SDL application when no window manager is running

Bug#548716: xserver-xorg-core: X server crashes upon startup with SEGV
Hi all, I can confirm this on an amd-64/sid with an ATI graphics card. Same messages as the other people reported. I tried to reinstall the packages of testingm with no success. Just to get X started, I added "vesa" as the driver, and X started. But using "ati" or "radeon" is crashing with SEG 11. I myself am using a Nvidia graphic card, which is running perfectly (using the closed source driver). Well, using driver "nv", which is the open source driver, is working, too. IMO, this crash is mainly related to ATI-cards. Is there anyone, who confirm this bug on cards other than ATI cards? Any information is welcome. Several other bugs I examined from the merge list appear to describe same bug as #548716; this one might be different. Additionally, most of the bug reports are very recent. #549085 has haunted me for few months now, it's just that I never had the time to localize the bug and report it. Bug#548321: #548321 [xterm] abort() a bit after catting binary file

Locale setting is en_US.UTF-8. this breaks for me (will see if I can reproduce it with my own compile, to debug it). I get xterm and libutempter0 debs to my nearby debian testing-favor box. With original packages (xterm 235-2 and no libutempter), i got no abort. With newly upgraded xterm I reproduced it where. LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, xfce window manager where. Mb you didn't extract it? I did - but the conditions for reproducing it weren't apparent. -- Thomas E.
