Keyboard doesn't work
Hello, I know this is NOT a end-user support list, but I've asked in several places and they have forwarded me to here; maybe there is a problem with the package. If the message is inconvenient, ignore it. I recently installed Debian Sid, and I have a problem with X and keyboard. When I poweron my computer and start the X, the keyboard doesn't work. If I restart the X server, then keyboard works correctly. I've updated my X package, and the problem remains. It doesn't matter if I start X with startx, kdm or gdm. In the same machine, I have Debian Woody running with no problem. Do you have any idea? Where can I start searching to solve the problem? Thanks a lot. Cesar

Bug#182319: xserver-xfree86: busy host causes mouse to go wild
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-5 Severity: normal this _may_ be kernel-related. it _may_ be related to the keyboard bugs that have also been reported. approximately in 2001 there was a serious crash problem related to the mouse that i helped martin pool to help you reproduce. the problem was that under heavy load (loadavg greater than about 9) it was possible to spang the mouse all over the place and press all the buttons repeatedly and rapidly, and Xfree86 would cause the entire machine to instantly and terminally hang. it would appear that the mouse issues under heavy load, whilst better, are still not completely resolved. i _do_ appreciate how complex these issues are, having once had to work on the mouse driver for X11R4 on the Atari Transputer Workstation. basically the issue is that under heavy load, where the machine is so busy it cannot refresh the screen for at least half a second at a time or more, if the mouse pad (sony vaio) is touched during this time, the mouse pointer goes "spang" into the top-right hand corner and starts shoving menus all over the place. i believe - without looking at any code - that this issue could be related to time between interrupts, and to the "mouse accelerator" code. if the host is incredibly busy and the wrong timestamp is placed on each mouse move event, then the mouse accelerator code may believe that the mouse has moved far more than it actually has. consequently it goes "spang", hitting the boundaries of the screen. ... well, if there were any sound effects then the mouse being in one spot at one time and instantly against the boundary the next instant then the sound i mentally associate with such behaviour is "spanggg". :) good luck, l. p.s. a good way to repro this issue is - to only have 128mb of ram and an 800mhz processor; - to press ctrl-alt-f1 (console screen); - to leave mozilla running overnight; - to return in the morning and press alt-f7 (or whatever it takes to get back to your X-windows console, i run 9 consoles and 1 x session); - to start moving the mouse immediately, before mozilla is fully swapped back into memory. -- Package-specific info: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x (rev 64) 01:00.0 Class 0300: 1002:4c4d (rev 64) ### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION # XF86Config-4 (XFree86 server configuration file) generated by dexconf, the # Debian X Configuration tool, using values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page. # (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.) # # If you want your changes to this file preserved by dexconf, only make changes # before the "### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION" line above, and/or after the # "### END DEBCONF SECTION" line below. # # To change things within the debconf section, run the command: # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 # as root. Bug#182341: Package:xserver-xfree86
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.1.0-13 I recently installed Libranet 2.0 on a second machine and I think it is having a fit with the sis driver, but it could be my monitor setup. These are my system specs. HP Pavilion 6330 SiS 5597/5598 Video Chipset 2 or 4 MB(Shared Memory Architecture) 64MB of RAM - Video Memory AMD K6-2 300MHz with 3Dnow Crystal Audio Sound USB Logitech MouseMan Sylvania TF721 17" Flat Screen Monitor I manually configured my Monitor for the horizontal and vertical sync per the specs on the Sylvania website. Attached are both my XF86Config-4 file and my XF96Config.0.log file. I really love the apt-get capabilities of Debian-based Libranet, but I need to be able to use X as this will be a little workstation. I installed RedHat and X ran fine, so I know it can be done, I just don't know how to do it in Debian. This is where the logfile told me to email any problems. If there is a known workaround or fix please let me know. /** * .88:.Steve Warner * * 8.888. I also suspect the nvidia drivers. In my case however stability has increased with the 41.91 version. X froze once since upgrading the driver in contrast to multiple times per week with 31.23... But after reviewing the dispatch loop and the smart scheduling code of the X Server I cannot rule out a general bug in the X Server code which is only triggered by the nvidia drivers... (On the other hand I don't know much about X, so I might as well be completely wrong). In any case I'm way out of my league here and since stability is quite OK now I also don't intend to pursue this further... Cheers, Mika
