ftp.dk.debian.org is dead and will probably not return.  This was
reported shortly afterwards by the administrator (Flemming Mahler) to
the appropriate address within Debian's organisation.  It appears no

Please start by reading our pages about the website:
http://www.debian.org/devel/website/

Notice that the site is updated by many people and some automatic
scripts, is translated into a number of languages, and is mirrored on
servers around the world.  Hence, a total rewrite would probably not
gain a lot of support amongst the readers of this mailing list, while
suggesting changes that can be made using our current system are much
more likely to be accepted.

"Missing" mailinglist tags

Hi,

It would be useful with a few more tags in the file 
english/MailingLists/mklist.tags, namely:

open
closed
developers only
deity-developers only
Debian Technical Committee only

Take a look at any non-English language version of subscribe.XX.html, examine 
the text following the 
"subscription" tags and you'll see what I mean.

Anyone with too much spare time on their hands who's willing to make the 
changes to mklist.tags and 
whatever else is needed?  Since I don't feel adequately competent yet, I'd 
rather not add the necessary code 
myself (or we'll all regret it afterwards ;-) ).

By the way, I'm the new coordinator (since the beginning of April) of the 
Danish translation effort.  I've been 
busy translating, hence my lack of participation on the list.

I have translated the slices and those translations are reflected on the

Is it possible to sort the mirror list according to the specific translations?

To pick an example Austria is listed first in the Danish version of the page, 
but in Danish (and several other 
languages) the name is spelled much differently from the English name, and 
should actually be at the bottom 
of the list (in Danish even after "www.debian.org" - which, supposing sorting 
is possible, should always be 
last, or perhaps first).

Oh!  Is the language slice used elsewhere?  If not, we could change the first 
letter of all the (European) 
language names to be in upper case (or maybe somehow change them "on the fly", 
before sorting the list?). 
But it may not be important to sort the list correctly, if it is mainly used to 
tell people that our web pages are 
available in many different languages...

Added international/Danish, Makefile needs copying

I've added international/Danish to the repository and modfied index.data and 
the Makefile in 
english/international to add the Danish to the processing.

But I think the Makefile in english/international needs to be copied to all 
languages - can someone please do 
this?  (After having verified I didn't break anything, of course. :-) )

I had the same problem (solved by downloading and adding the PostScript posters 
manually to my local cvs).

Although it now works for me, I'm very much in favour of putting the event 
material 
somewhere else, as I sometimes also use a laptop for my translations, and I'd

not use the limited hard disk space on posters I'll never need while 
translating.

It seems that Konqueror gets its preferred language from the language
setting in KDE's control center.  I've set up KDE to use English, but
just changed it to Danish and voilà! www.debian.org now shows up in
Danish when using Konqueror.

Apparently there is no way to set up more preferred languages for use
in Konqueror - not very user friendly...

I don't understand the way you changed this sentence:

"and burn some CDs" in this place doesn't make any sense to me since it

I either translate everything on a page, or nothing at all.  In case of
the latter I am not going to copy anything to the translation's
directory.  Besides, I don't think it's a good idea to rely on a
certain page being available, at least not without saying so in a

In Opera, Netscape and Internet Explorer there are frames around the

browers, if you can.

I've just noticed two things in regards to the 31 July Japanese commit of
this file, 1) some languages not mentioned elsewhere in the file are now
available in Japanese, 2) a comma was missing after one of those languages
(Belarusian).

I've added the missing comma but have no idea whether that will fix the
problem.  Also, it seems that the web site isn't building anymore, some
changes I committed 19 hours ago haven't made it to the main site yet.

Allow me to point out (again[1]) that you've missed parts of the updates
made in the English versions 1.64 and 1.65.

As far as I can tell, not knowing any Greek, at least two things are
missing: the addition of the debian-security-announce anchor at the bottom
of the page and the addition of a link to ports/ below the link to
international/ (which you've just added).

Other things may be different as well, please make a complete comparision
between the current English and Greek versions of the file.

Actually they don't point to any specific language, but is served
according to your browser's language settings ("content negotiation").

Make Danish the first choice in the browser's language list, in this way
the pages will automatically be served in Danish (when available).

Immediately below the links to the various translations there's a link to
a document which describe why our pages work that way.

In short: we use "content negotation" and if you add the languages you
understand to your browser's configuration, with e.g. German on the very
top of the list, you will automatically see any translated pages in
German.

Bad wording in /devel/join/nm-step3.wml

While translating the NM-pages I ran into a paragraph that didn't make
much sense.  Quoting nm-step3.wml, line 83 forward:

"The DFSG clearly "calls out" several licenses, other than the GPL
as free licenses. A discussion between the AM and the applicant
detailing why the applicant feels these licenses fit the guidelines
even thought they have "objectionable" clauses. [...]"

Besides the obvious typo ("even thought"), there seems to be missing a
sentence.

In debian-med/index.wml you link twice to the same "talks" directory in
the new section (and the trailing slash is missing) - is that on purpose? 
Also, you write "check this pages" where you probably many "check these
pages" or "check this page".  

I won't try to fix it since I don't know your intention...

It _is_ in the footer ("How to set the default document language"), but
people, including you :-), overlook it.  Joy just tried to make the link
easier to notice by making only half of the text a link - it should show
