Since I hardly use it myself and I currently have less time for debian
due to job change duplicity is up for adoption.

I have some patches that need a bit of adjustment closing most of the
open bugs but I currently lack the time to throw them all matching
togeather.

yours Martin

I orphan chmlib package, there is no new version available for the moment.

The package description is:
It is a very simple library, but sufficient for dealing with all of the
chm files. Library currently does not has write support.
 .
CHM files are used on the Micosoft Windows platform to store program
documentation, almost always in the form of HTML, with some non-standard
quirks. CHM files are a form of archive known as InfoTech Storage Format
(ITSF) files and contain some special files to implement features of the
CHM viewer. On Windows they are accessed through a kind of virtual
filesystem exposed by a dynamically loaded library. ITSF files have
UTF-8 filenames and use an LZX cruncher to compress all the files in one
big chunk. Both the ITSF and the formats of the internal CHM files are
highly indexed and their designs are all clearly optimized for read-only
 access.
 .
 This package includes test programs

Bug#418359: ITP: pyusb -- USB interface for python

2007-04-09 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: wnpp
Owner: Petter Reinholdtsen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pyusb
  Version : 0.3.5
Upstream Author : Wander Lairson Costa
* URL : http://pyusb.berlios.de/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C, Python
Description : USB interface for python

PyUSB is a native Python module written in C (meanwhile, because the next
major version will use ctypes), that provides USB access for it.

This library is used by pymissile, the control software for an USB
missile launcer, and I want to have that software packaged for Debian.
Information on pymissile is available from
http://scott.weston.id.au/software/pymissile/>.

If anyone with python knowledge is interested in maintaining pyusb, I
would be most grateful, as I have very little python packaging
maintainence experience.

This module defines a standard simplified interface to the dynamic linking
mechanisms available on many platforms. Its primary purpose is to implement
cheap automatic dynamic loading of Perl modules.

For a more complicated interface, see DynaLoader. Many (most) features of
DynaLoader are not implemented in XSLoader, like for example the dl_load_flags,
not honored by XSLoader.

Description : Data::Entropy from CPAN - entropy (randomness) management

This module maintains a concept of a current selection of entropy source.
Algorithms that require entropy can use the source nominated by this module,
avoiding the need for entropy source objects to be explicitly passed around.
This is convenient because usually one entropy source will be used for an
entire program run and so an explicit entropy source parameter would rarely
vary. There is also a default entropy source, avoiding the need to explicitly
configure a source at all.

Description : Authen::Passphrase from CPAN - module encapsulating hashed
passwords/passphrases as objects

This is the base class for a system of objects that encapsulate passphrases.
An object of this type is a passphrase recogniser: its job is to recognise
whether an offered passphrase is the right one. For security, such passphrase
recognisers usually do not themselves know the passphrase they are looking for;
they can merely recognise it when they see it. There are many schemes in use to
achieve this effect, and the intent of this class is to provide a consistent
interface to them all, hiding the details.

The CPAN package Authen::Passphrase contains implementations of several
specific passphrase schemes in addition to the base class.

Description : Crypt::Eksblowfish from CPAN - Eksblowfish block cipher

An object of this type encapsulates a keyed instance of the Eksblowfish block
cipher, ready to encrypt and decrypt.

Eksblowfish is a variant of the Blowfish cipher, modified to make the key setup
very expensive. ("Eks" stands for "expensive key schedule".) This doesn't make
it significantly cryptographically stronger, but is intended to hinder
brute-force attacks. It also makes it unsuitable for any application requiring
key agility. It was designed by Niels Provos and David Mazieres for password
hashing in OpenBSD. See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Bcrypt for the hash algorithm.

Eksblowfish is a parameterised (family-keyed) cipher. It takes a cost parameter
that controls how expensive the key scheduling is. It also takes a family key,
known as the "salt". Cost and salt parameters together define a cipher family.
Within each family, a key determines an encryption function in the usual way.
See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Family for a way to encapsulate an Eksblowfish cipher
family.

Bug#418084: Adoptation of mrd6

2007-04-09 Thread Lior Kaplan
Hi,

As upstream works very tightly with debian on this package, Hugo
(=upstream) agreed to maintain the package (with my help and sponsoring).

A new version will be uploaded in a few days, based on the NMU patch I
have at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=418074

server on your behalf, but instead of playing the stream, it simply
relays it to whichever other application connecting to it.

Note to prospective packagers: please note the copyright issues below

Hi Maintainer,

rejected, the files in fcrypt/* seem to have a different license.
There is a notice to look in README, which (of fcrypt) isnt included.
Googling for it shows its something different to the rest of the package.

So: Upstream should fix it and include the (C) notices of stuff he copies
in, and then you need to fix your debian/copyright file.

Description : Perl bindings for LZO realtime compression library

Compress::LZO is a Perl external module which provides an interface to
LZO compression library.

LZO is a portable lossless data compression library written in ANSI C.
It offers pretty fast compression and *very* fast decompression.
Decompression requires no memory.

Package is at http://zigzag.lvk.cs.msu.su/~nikita/perl/
I created it because we need Compress::LZO for one of local projects,
and there is no debian package available yet.
Package is lintian- and linda-clean. However, since it is my first perl
debian package, I'd like someone to look through it, probably I've done
somethin wrong.

Bug#390868: [Fwd: review orpheus 1.5-7]

2007-04-09 Thread Bart Martens

--- Begin Message ---
Hi Nori,

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=390868

Do you first want 1.5-7 uploaded in Debian, before 1.6-1 ? If yes,
could you then explain why you want that? If no, could you then upload
your 1.6-1 package to mentors?

Regards,

Bart Martens

Bug#387152: ITP: twill -- A simple scripting language for Web browsing

2007-04-09 Thread Arnaud Fontaine
Hello,

The package is almost ready. Unfortunately, there is still a remaining
problem: some modules like mechanize (debian package python-mechanize)
and ClientForm (debian packages python-clientform) are in the upstream
source under a minor modified form, I wonder if the upstream author may
agree to modify this, otherwise we will have to make a patch in order to
remove of these modules from twill module.

In addition, python-mechanize is outdated, I'm filling a bug right now
about that.

Cheers,
Arnaud Fontaine

Hi, Arnaud,

twill now works with the latest version of ClientForm/mechanize "out of
box", I believe, so it should be possible to simply remove those
packages from the debian version. Is that a good solution?

Description: A high-level cross-protocol url-grabber.
Python urlgrabber drastically simplifies the fetching of files. It is
designed to be used in programs that need common (but not necessarily
 simple) url-fetching features.
 .
It supports identical behavior for http://, ftp:// and file:/// URIs,
HTTP keepalive, byte ranges, regets, progress meters, throttling, retries,
access to authenticated http / ftp servers and proxies and the ability
to treat a list of mirrors as a single source automatically switching
mirrors if there is a failure.

Ahh! I see; the problem is actually more with mechanize than with
twill. Right-o.

I think John Lee would probably be resistant to ripping out BS
altogether from his distribution. How much of a problem is it to simply
keep it in there? It's not generally accessible, so it wouldn't
interfere with anything.

Actually, BeautifulSoup is not included in mechanize source tree.
Therefore, if we want to use python-mechanize instead of other_packages
module, it will fail because mechanize imports BeautifulSoup module
which is included in python-beautifulsoup 3.x.

Arnaud

Ahh, you must be working with an older version. The latest version of
mechanize includes BeautifulSoup as _beautifulsoup. (That's an
accomodation that I can make in twill as well, if necessary.)

aaargh! there're way to many weird dependencies in python packages. Imho
it does not make much sense to have two versions of BS in Debian (like
we have for python-snmp for example). Together with the problem that
mechanize seems not to be upgradeable due to not being compatible with
zope3 I think we're somewhat stuck here. Probably shipping twills
dependencies in one package with twill would be the best resolution
until twill, mechanize, BS and zope3 decide to be compatible.

Bernd

Is this a 'zope.testbrowser' problem?

(There's no reason why zope3 itself and mechanize would be
"incompatible".)

twill-latest and mechanize-latest are compatible; it's relatively simple
to upgrade mechanize to use the latest version of BS, too. However,
until recently there was no good way to suck down dependencies
automatically in Python, and there still is no *good* way, which sort of
prevents me from distributing twill without mechanize by default.
(I don't want to harass non-Debian users by making them install
mechanize first, THEN twill.)

FWIW, I'm happy to correspond on these issues. I'm the author of twill,
I know mechanize (and John Lee) fairly well, and I'm a user of Debian.
All reasons to get this stuff to work nicely together...

So, thanks for your efforts & let me know what I can do!

cheers,

It would be great to make this accomodation into twill. I have filled a
bug asking for an upgrade of debian package of mechanize[0].

Hey,

I think that we have to wait for this release and then use the
_beautifulsoup for twill, there isn't another solution BTW. I will
prepare the debian package twill tomorrow and upload it as soon as
mechanize has been uploaded.
