Bug#1099321: kde-standard: Replacing hard dependencies with recommended ones for applications
Package: kde-standard Version: 5:155 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: tere...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, please consider replacing hard dependencies with recommendations for applications in this metapackage. Since Debian does not offer a minimal desktop during installation, users are forced to have all default applications in the system. Removing any of them breaks the kde-standard dependency, which usually leads to the automatic removal of packages important for the environment. Of course, it is possible to install the base system and then individual packages, but this is unnecessarily time-consuming and difficult for the average user, if only because of the need to resolve conflicts of network interfaces created without initially using NetworkManager. The current list of applications is quite extensive and, in my opinion, includes applications that are not very popular even among KDE users. Of course, these are personal preferences, but the current dependency system does not allow any freedom in this matter, and the solution to this problem seems quite simple to me. In gnome matapacke this is applied, for example, in the case of the music player. Best regards Piotr

Re: Request from Debian packagers: please don't ship debian/ in tarballs

Question: KDE 3 and 4 in Squeeze
Hello, I'm writing to ask if there will be both KDE 3 and 4 available in the new testing branch - Squeeze. KDE4 is really great and many users would for sure be happy to see and test it. However it is also important for us to be able to keep our old environment. The best solution for many of us would be to have a possibility of switching between KDE3 and KDE4 just like it now works for KDE3 and Gnome. It would be great if KDE applications could come in two versions as well, as their Qt4 ports often lack important functions the previous versions had. I've noticed it is now more complicated thing beacuse the question is for which environment the experimental packages should be compiled? sarge or sid? On sid distribution the packages are not installable because of C++ migration process. # apt-get install kdelibs4 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. KDE 4.5 in Debian 6.0 Squeeze?
Hello, Debian testing is now frozen with KDE SC 4.4.5. Most sources I have found confirm that KDE 4.5 won't get into Squeeze, but some say that this may change in the future. What is the official version? Are there any chances to see version 4.5 in stable? IMHO KDE 4.5 fixes many annoying bugs including common Plasma crashes sce. I think it's much better candidate for the stable release of Debian. Regards, ultr
Re: Re: KDE 4.5 in Debian 6.0 Squeeze?
> All new releases fix bugs and they all introduce > new (annoying) ones. I haven't exerienced any annoying bugs in 4.5 so far. And there are plenty of them in 4.4.5 - mainly plasma crashes f.e. when you drag&drop a quick lunch icon on itself instead of clicking it (very common situation). > But the main reason is that rules are rules: > freeze is in effect and there is no workaround > for the limits it imposes. Probably the freeze date was a wrong choice then. KDE 4.5 release schedule was well known after all. Does Debian not care about KDE users anymore? I just think that KDE 4.4.5 is not stable enough to be in stable branch of Debian. Version 4.5 is just a fix for this situation. And many other users agree with that.
Problems with refresh of desktop...
Hello, I am using some toshiba with ATI from familly 3xxx // CPU AMD 64bit I have upgraded yesterday my laptop to debian wheezy - 18/09/11 I am using here also new kernel 3.0.0-1 AMD64 For graphical interface I use radeon driver from distro: xorg-xserver-radeon In general all works fine after login until there is needed any usage of taskbar / and so plasma module /. If I would press any icon from taskbar it will display black rectangle and if I do this one or two more times, I finish with black screen in background and correct mouse arrow. As a kind of exercise I have installed additionally old kxdocs taskbar: - and if I will use that menu all works fine, if I try to use any function related to kde taskbar I finish again with black screen. I have googled a while and I have found that in the older version of KDE there were some problems with cache. I have tried to disable that one, but it does not seem to make any change in my case.
