Hi Tiana,

Qt3 is not maintained anymore in Debian. Last stable version of Debian
shipping Qt3 is Squeeze with GCC 4.4.
IIRC the problem you reported was fixed in one of the uploads of Qt3 made
after the release of Squeeze, if you grab the latest upload of Qt3 from
http://snapshot.debian.org it is possible this problem is fixed there.

This will be fixed in the first upload of Calligra, an self-fork from koffice,
that will be replacing koffice in the Debian archive.
Hopefully this will hapen whithin the next 2 months.

Versions that Squeeze will ship:
KDE SC 4.4.5 with kdepim 4.4.7
Qt 4.6.3

Stuff we have to write about from the top of my head:
- KDE 3 is dead, but kdelibs and some KDE 3 apps are still in the archive.
- Also Qt 3 is around and some apps using it.
- kdelibs from KDE 3 and Qt 3 won't be in the next Debian release.
- changes in the metapackages, plasma-desktop vs plasma-netbook
- kaboom, migrating your settings from KDE 3 to KDE 4:
  http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kaboom.html

Let's wait a couple of days in case something important is missing
and I will write the final text.

kprof removal?

I was wondering if it is time to ask for the removal of kprof.
kprof did not make into Squeeze due to a RC bug and it uses kdelibs
from KDE3 that as you might know we are trying to remove
from the archive. (See bug: http://bugs.debian.org/604303)

Do you know if there is a port for KDE 4? Could I go ahead

kde-extras packages using kdelibs4c2a

Hi folks!

This is the list of packages using kdelibs4c2a maintained by kde-extras
people.

* kasablanca
* kbarcode
* keep
* kfocus
* klibido
* kmobiletools
* kpogre
* ksniffer
* kvdr
* lensfun
* libkipi
* taskjuggler

None of them seem to have a working KDE 4 port (except taskjuggler having
something in ruby...). I guess we can go ahead and file them all
for removal?

Bug#619728: RM: kdelibs -- ROM; obsolete

2011-03-26 Thread Ana Guerrero
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please remove kdelibs from the archive. Squeeze shipped with KDE 4
as default KDE desktop and it still included kdelibs from KDE 3
for transitioning. The KDE team does not want to keep KDE 3
libraries for Wheezy.

Most of the rdepends has been already removed from Debian and others
are filed waiting to be removed. There are some packages that have
a replacement or they are waiting for a upload to remove the
kde3 support, I will add the blocking bugs for those.

Hi Adrien, I am sorry I did not answer you before, I do not read this list
very often.

As you might know, koffice is not going to be around a lot of time longer
in Debian and it is going to be replaced by Calligra. If you want to help,
a needed task is looking at all the pending bugs and:
- checking what are fixed in Calligra (action: mark them with a user-tag)
- what bugs do not apply anymore (action: close them)
- what bugs should be forwarded to upstream.(action you forward them
to kde bugzilla [1] [2]

[1] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/usertags.html (e.g. usertag
fixed-calligra)
[2] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/btslink.html
http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-bugzilla-survival-guide.html

If you want to take a look at calligra packages, there is a repo with a
ver minimal packaging at:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-kde/kde-std/calligra.git;a=summary
that makes a big calligra.deb. Note, that only can be used to test calligra
without corrupting your system.

Qt3 looking for adopters

2011-05-01 Thread Ana Guerrero

Hi,

kdelibs3 was removed recently from the archive and the last tiny bit
of KDE 3 remaining, aRts, will be removed quite soon.

This means the KDE team is not longer interested in Qt3 and we are looking
for new maintainer(s).

Personally, I would have gone for removing Qt3 too but the following concerns
have been raised:

- latest LSB 4.1 still needs Qt3
- some software using Qt3 do not have any replacement (twinkle has mentioned
for several users). There is a list of packages using Qt 3 at [1] and
even if Qt3 is kept in the archive, I am planning to do a QA round of all
  the packages using Qt3.
- there seem to be a lot of people using their Qt 3 software and Debian in
  scientific environments.

Qt 3 was EOL'ed in July 2007 [2], so if you decide to adopt Qt 3 you won't
have any support by upstream. Also, if you adopt the package, please
coordinate with the KDE team so we can push some final changes.

If there are no adopters in the next 3 weeks, I will do an orphaning upload
(and file the O: bug) with the changes mentioned earlier.

Bug#625502: O: qt-x11-free -- Qt GUI Library

kdelibs3 was removed recently from the archive and the last tiny bit

More information at:

Adopting Qt3 require skills and time since you would have to do the upstream
work. Consider carefully this before adopting Qt3.

Change of plans. Due the switch to GCC 4.6, 48 packages using Qt 3 failed to
build
from source. This was already reported against Qt3 with a patch, see bug report
#611255 (Thanks Riddell!) and Modestas did a quick upload fixing the issue
plus the other final issues we wanted to address. See changelog [1]

We took advantage of the upload to also orphan Qt3. Orphaning bug is #625502.

If you want Qt3 is wheezy (or any of the packages that need Qt3), please, step
up soon.

Please, install kdelibs-dbg and kdepim-dbg then submit a valid backtrace.
A question, are you using KDE or you are using another desktop? In this case
any other KDE app works?

Well, the KDE development now is 99% focused in KDE 4, specially now it has
been released :) Still, there will be some bugfixes for KDE 3, but only for
very important bugs or for bugs the app maintainter is motivated to fix (in a
lot of cases backporting fixes i guess).

I'll paste your answer in the KDE SVN.

I will forward this to upstream.
I am lowering the bug severity to important, since kword works fine except when
you
try to open this file (and i guess maybe another files generated with previous
koffice versions). I can open the file with OOo, so this seem to point to a
problem

I have added a prune-nonfree script to kdepimlibs so we'll remember pruning
those files and re-packing the tarball with newer upstream releases.
I won't upload a repackaged tarball so this bug won't fixed until beginning of
april when KDE 4.0.3 will be released.

Bug#475841: kde4libs: FTBFS due to missing build dependencies

2008-04-13 Thread Ana Guerrero
Package: kde4libs
Version: 4:4.0.2-1
Severity: serious

After the cleanup of build depends from Qt4 (4.4) kde4libs FTBFS due to
missing build depends.
kdepimlibs and kdebase-runtime will FTBFS too. There is not planning to fix
this since these packages will be eventually replaced by packages for the KDE
4.1 branch, but are kept in the meantime in unstable/testing due to reverse
depends (python-kde4).

In the Control Center, go to System Administation->Login Manager. Once there
there is a tab named Convenience (it is the last tab), there is an option to
enable password-less logins. I'm almost sure you enabled that :)

In your initial mail you said you have his problem with all the accounts.
You can enable password-less logins to all the accouns in your system that you
want to, so make sure in that tab you do not have enabled:
Enable Password-Less logins.

After you are sure this is not your problem, install gdm or xdm and check
whether you have the same problem with this display managers.
You can go to use kdm back again with:
dpkg-reconfigure kdm

The real bug here is in Qt3, that is not being fixed anymore by upstream
(working now in Qt4).
The bug is not considered a serious security concern and it surely won't

I will upload kdepim 3.5.9-3 soon with some bugfixes that hopefully will fix
your problem, one of them at least seems related. I will close the bug then,
so if you experience this problem again after update, re-open it.

But, It seems you are using testing, so it would be interesting that you
report if you still have the problem with current korganizer 3.5.9-2 in
testing, and when korganizer 3.5.9-3 hits unstable, fetch it from there and
test whether this problem was resolved.

That the fix is not up to your satisfaction is not a reason to re-open the bug
:)
The original problem should be fixed, and what caused the problem was not
created by kde, it is a problem with pmount, and its way to manage this, read
the document README.Debian distributed in this package.
About the error message it is made by hal, so if you want a more nicer
message, report it as a wishlish there.

instace because if i can not reproduce the bug and user does not answer with
more info it is a dead end, and it does not make too much sense keep it open.

It will be closed if it works with KDE 4, like fixed in kde 4 version, but
will reman open forever in KDE 3 versions until this is removed from the
archive...

Build flawlessly with both cowbuilder and schroot with LVM,. I am unable to
reproduce this so not much to do here, I am afraid.
There is clearly something out of the ordinary in your setup Lucas :)

For the record:
kde4libs seems not to be building in hppa because it is still using cmake 2.4,
the build depends has been raised to > 2.6.0 so in the next upload it won't
build at all if cmake has not been updated yet.
The reason why cmake 2.6.0 is still not built in hppa is due to a problem with
glibc. So it will take a while =)

No need to investigate further, it can be easily fixed by handling the
installation of the apidocs as another kde-modules do (modules that do not
FTBFS obviuosly). Still I do wonder how this path including a 4 is created
in your sbuild :?

Can be fixed in the same way.

I will fix kdepim because I need to address another grave problems in that
package, but unless i need to do another upload for kdegames to fix something
else I would rather skip an upload, I do not consider this a serious bug.
The problem is not widely reproducible, only under some circustances we do not
know yet.

kpowersave recommended as a replacement in the next couple of days.

A better one, i would say. I'm uploading kdeutils today droping klaptopdaemon,
so far the only "announcement" from kde team is this:

I did not reassign this bug because users concerned about this, will look at
the package providing update-mime-database and will report again :)

I do wonder if reporting about unknown media types should be only shown
in a verbose option of update-mime-database and not by default.

This should be only shown with the verbose option (an option -q would be ok as
well, tho).

I do wonder whether the title should be changed.

packages you have installed:
x11-xfs-utils, x11-utils, x11-xserver-utils, x11-session-utils, xfonts-utils,

Have to say I have never used kpackage, but if you use the options:
Special-> APT:Debian -> update, it should get updated as well as Synaptic.
If you want to try another nice KDE package manager more modern, you can try

This is very interesting, what version of openbabel do you have installed?
I did not manage to get kdeedu finding openbabel so it is not building

kalzium/libavogadro-kalzium
kalzium/compoundviewer

So it did not create the libraries and they are not installed in the package.
hence this problem.

A full build log would be very usefult to check this too.

> This persists even if I remove previous versions of kdeedu.

It has nothing to do with the problem.

Feel free to fix it too :-)

Then it is not exaclty a FTBFS problem, but: it would be nice fix openbabel if
something is wrong and add back support for openbabel in kdeedu.

Only kde stuff you updated that day was kdelibs, try downgrawding:
http://people.debian.org/~ana/491879/kdelibs-data_3.5.9.dfsg.1-4_all.deb
http://people.debian.org/~ana/491879/kdelibs4c2a_3.5.9.dfsg.1-4_i386.deb

and let's see what happens.

Can you send a output of:
dpkg -l | grep 3.5.9

too?

This bug is becoming a headache :D
So I guess we can discard kdelibs update as the cause of the problem ?

Wild guess, can you try with up-to-date kdelibs to -4 and start your system
with a previous kernel image?
If the problem is still present i'm running out of ideas about what can be the
cause:(

You are skipping the info of the available package versions isntalled on your
system. Does this problem occurs if you have your system up-to-date?
With kdebase 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-5 and kdelibs 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6.

Submitter has closed the bug, problem is he is(was) using kde4. Actually this
problem is caused due to a little issue in rosegarden, the following line:

Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, khelpcenter, rosegarden-data (= ${source:Version}),
libxml-twig-perl, sndfile-programs, xterm, kdebase-bin,
konqueror | www-browser, flac

should be updated to something like:

Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, khelpcenter, rosegarden-data (= ${source:Version}),
libxml-twig-perl, sndfile-programs, xterm, kdebase-bin (<< 4:4.0.0)
konqueror | www-browser, flac

Since rosegarden seems not to work/install fine with KDE 4.
I have not idea if this would be needed for the other kde depends there. mind
that kde 4 will go to unstable after lenny is released, so rosegarden might
need some updates...

triggered after some special update :?
Current version of qt3 was uploaded months ago...
