Hello, I and also the other guys in our forum already tried to install 7.8, which ends in the same problem like 8.0. Which version was running on your Peg-2? Re: Debian 8.0 PPC not working on Pegasos II G4
Hello Luigi, thank you for your feedback. Regarding your hints, I already tried ext 2, ext 3 and ext 4. :-) I was running DEBIAN 6 before, this mean the enviroment is setup in the right way. I can use AmigaOS 4.1, MOS and Debian 6 over a bootmenue. So it is really no problem of the installation itself, something was changed and now the PEG is no more working. It seems that some parts of the base system could not be installed, but I cannot say which one… Is there no official who could be informed about this problem? Because the installation routines for the PEG are also in Debian 8 and as I wrote before everything is working fine up to 95%. If it was the best machine, why did you sold it? :-) Would be usefully now. :-) Best regards, Robert > Am 02.05.2015 um 02:39 schrieb Luigi Burdo : > > Last that i had been installed was debian wheezy 7.6 > install it without upgrading during installing ( dont install upgrade from > network during the installation procedures) . Re: Debian 8.0 PPC not working on Pegasos II G4
Hello Charlie, please, please try to install 8.0 and you will see „my problem“. On a1k.org some other users tried it, with the same result. Which GUI do you select on installation? I am always using GNOME. Regarding the problems you mentioned, I never had them. Maybe it is also a combination of firmware and revision on the PEG? My old installation using 6.8 was running perfect. I read now that 7.6 should still run, 7.8 & 8.0 fails in the installation at 95%. If you close installation and try to boot, you can see the grafic trash I already posted. But within the installation the grafic is working fine. cU, aPEX / www.a1k.org Pegasos II (last rev), 1GB Kingston Ram, Radeon 9000 128MB, SoundBlaster 5.1, Exsys EX-1064 USB, Digitus SATA 150, Fujitsu 2,5“ 500GB SATA HD. > Am 02.05.2015 um 14:42 schrieb Karoly Balogh (Charlie/SGR) > : > > Hi there, > > When I was installing Wheezy on my Pegasos II around 2013, I ran into the > following issues: > > - the RDB partitioning didn't work (the disk I was trying to install on > had RDB already), and made the installer to crash and burn in various > ways. Re: Potential Mono removal from 32-bit big endian PowerPC in next upload
It would be not so nice to lost support for products like the Pegasos II which is a 32bit G4 device. :( > Am 24.08.2015 um 23:49 schrieb Lennart Sorensen > : > > On Sun, Aug 16, 2015 at 08:59:19AM +0100, Jo Shields wrote: >> Dear PPC porter people, >> >> The major Mono version pending in experimental fixes GCC5 and fixes >> reproducible builds and a dozen other bugs, so I don't want to delay it. >> >> It doesn't build on PowerPC any more, and nobody upstream is working on it. >> >> We recently introduced ppc64el, which is working, but there's nobody who >> cares about 32-bit BE - the community contributor who gave us our ppc64el >> port is working on ppc64, but simply isn't interested in 32-bit. >> >> I've fixed up the build such that there is a single failure, a single >> assert, still breaking the build (and about 31 of the tests in the runtime >> test suite): >> https://gist.githubusercontent.com/directhex/f890350006e72be706af/raw/2bae2f1ea487f4f6c6f7d5ccb256feda35627c28/assert >> >> This state of the art (which contains patches beyond what is in >> Experimental) is at https://github.com/directhex/mono-1/tree/ppc32 >> >> I've hit the limits of my ability to debug and fix. Debian 8.2 on Pegasos II G4 - Installation working, but no boot image in folder boot
Hello, I just gave Debian 8.2 a try, installation was working fine without a problem! But after the installation the „vmlinuz“ files are in /boot/ missing. There are just the „vmlinux“ files to start for example a Macbook G4. Why can this not be fixed since so many stable releases? :-( cU, aPEX / www.a1k.org Pegasos II (last rev), 1GB Kingston Ram, Radeon 9000 128MB, SoundBlaster 5.1, Exsys EX-1064 USB, Digitus SATA 150, Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 500GB 2,5 HD.

Hello, 8.2 + mkvmlinuz fix is working now. I am able to boot to my desktop. :-) A bit slow, but running. cU, aPEX www.a1k.org Amiga & Phoenix Community > Am 04.10.2015 um 15:48 schrieb aPEX : > > Hello, > > I made now following steps: > > 1. Re: 32bit PowerPC
Running a Pegasos 2 with 1.2Ghz G4. :) But 8.3 is still not working directly after installation, because no vmlinux file is generated in boot. cU, aPEX www.a1k.org > Am 09.02.2016 um 22:56 schrieb k...@kirkg.us: > > Hello all, > Does anyone still do anything with 32bit PowerPC?
