Proper default icon
Hi guys, for djvusmooth I would like to add an icon to the desktop file (Ubuntu bug #926820), and the upstream isn't shipped with any. Is there a set of default icons I could choose one from or should I provide an own anyhow? Thanks in advance for help! Reupload after deletion on mentors
Hi guys, I really don't have a clue: on the mentors site I've deleted a previously successful uploaded package, after that I've tried to re-upload it, but everything fails, http upload gives "403 Forbidden", FTP upload gives "533 Could not create file", and furthermore "The existing file may have been previously uploaded partially" etc. What went wrong, and what can I do? Yes I know that there is an upload queue that is no problem (it takes time until an uploaded package appears on the page), but, is there also a deletion queue? I mean why is the reupload blocked after deletion, does it also takes time to get purged? I've tried to get dcut into charge but it says it is forbidden in this queue. Any further suggestions? Thanks Stephen for the suggestion. Yes I am going to use the FTP method in the future that's better. The upload queue is still blocked and I think I know what went wrong: I've uploaded the package which appeared on mentors a couple of minutes later. After that I've uploaded a slightly altered package, and while that one was in the upload queue I've accidentally deleted the package through the account menu - I think now the 2nd package hangs in the upload queue and probably blocks all future uploads of that, isn't that the case? Python-Support private/public modules
Hi guys, please excuse if this one would have belonged to a Python mailing list but maybe somebody here could help me out (rookie question?): packing a Python application here by default Debhelper(8)/Python-Support(1.0.10) treat all the modules as being public and so put them into /usr/share/pyshared. When I add a file debian/install containing "lib usr/share/foo" then there are again the public modules and a *copy* of all of them being private (as it should be). Adopting: maintainer change in debian/changelog
Hi guys, question: if I am adopting a packet, what's the procedure for altering debian/copyright (dep5)? Since I've learned that the "Maintainer:" field is for the upstream developer, should I just "take over" the copyright for "Files: debian/*"? RFS: gummi - GTK+ based LaTeX editor with auto refreshing preview pane
Hi guys, I'm requesting for sponsorship towards Gummi, the fine little GTK+ based LaTeX editor with auto-refreshing preview pane developed by Alexander van der Mey and Wei-Ning Huang. The ITP (#557430) is over an year old - in the meanwhile Gummi has been implemented completely in C. I've pushed the latest 0.5.4 as initial release as gummit.git/debian to collab-maint @ Alioth when I've seen that the former maintainer has left a patch and an upstream version on an older Python rev. but the program has never got into unstable so far. The programmers have provided home made Ubuntu packets so far and would be very happy to see it getting into Debian finally. My builds here are lintian clean. Debhelper: LDFLAGS
Hi, I am building with Debhelper 8 (dh $@) and I have a C source here which builds with several spurious shlib dependencies detected by dpkg-shlibdeps. I've found that setting LDFLAGS to "--as-needed" prevents overkill linking. Where can I override the the auto build process? Just setting a custom LDFLAGS in debian/rules isn't given through. Re: Debhelper: LDFLAGS
I see that the variable has to be exported. But an "export LDFLAGS='-Wl,--as-needed'" (the dpkg-buildflags result here is empty) in debian/rules here doesn't work either. Did I got it right: my builder debuild is a wrapper for dpkg-builpackage which calls dpkg-buildflags to set the FLAGS (why between two dh_cleans?). The FLAGS then are efficient during the run of ./configure, isn't it? "Data" packet of TEI/XML files best practice
Hi people, I have a clone git repository here which consists of several TEI encoded XML files for Sanskrit philology (https://github.com/paddymcall/SARIT): $ ls SARIT/ astangahrdayasamhita.xml brahmapurana.xml debian manusmrti.xml ratnakIrti-nibandhAvali.xml schemas ayurvedasutram.xml caryamelapakapradipa.xml kautalyarthasastra.xml naradasmrti.xml README.org I'm building a Debian packet from them with simple "dh $@" in debian/rules (Debhelper 7) and with a debian/install which goes like this: $ cat debian/install *xml usr/share/sarit schemas usr/share/sarit/schemas README.org usr/share/doc/sarit/ Questions: 1) the Git repo maintainer doesn't uses tags yet, so I've chosen the snapshot for my packet rev number (420aa04-1). For I am building from within Git (debian/ has been blacklisted through .git/info/exclude), is it possible to create the .deb also without a source tarball or what would be best practice to recreate it? 2) I would like to create PDFs from the .xml-s during packet creation, I would guess I would need a override_dh_ for this in debian/rules, which? 3) Would Debian be interested to include such a "data" packet into the official repos if the copyright issue has been solved? Buildings fails due to missing link against gzclose
Hi guys, we are trying to build the Gummi (LaTeX editor with preview pane) 0.6 beta with Pdebuilder (Sid) on Ubuntu Oneiric, but the building fails due to a missing link against 'gzclose' (Zlib) - please see the build log: http://paste.debian.net/143237/ I've found the same problem in here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=554557 I've contacted the developers, and they added the reference to the upstream: http://dev.midnightcoding.org/redmine/projects/gummi/repository/diff?rev=1032&rev_to=1031 but it still fails to build and we're stuck a little here. Hi Andrea, yes that's quite a mess. Please cf.: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/09/msg00056.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/09/msg00334.html Currently, the discussion goes on towards the bugs #650737 (Debian Policy 3.9.2: Point format URL to www.debian.org) and #649813 (Lintian: Final URL for DEP5) I would assume that this could be lacking consensus among the developers how to treat this, but it seems it would be a good solution to just fill in the expected URL: http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0 (however, Lintian accepts this w/o final slash). Nevertheless, passing the build flags stays problematic. The Cmake invokes with fully expanded buildflag variables (I've added CXXFLAGS): cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr -DCMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE=ON -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo - -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE:STRING=RelWithDebInfo "-DCMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_RELWITHDEBINFO=-g -O2 - -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2" "-DCMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS= -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,relro" But Scantailor gets compiled w/o any customization, running the Cmake standard build flags: /usr/lib/ccache/c++ -DBOOST_MULTI_INDEX_DISABLE_SERIALIZATION -DBOOST_TEST_DYN_LINK - -D_BIND_TO_CURRENT_VCLIBS_VERSION=1 -Wall -Wno-unused -ffast-math -DNDEBUG -g -O2 - -fvisibility=hidden -I/tmp/buildd/scantailor-0.9.11.1/. <...> Anyway, the custom linker flags got passed through! Bug#712056: RFS: scantailor [ITP] -- interactive post-processing tool for scanned document pages
1) buildflags.patch / build type First of all, the patch works fine. Actually, after removing the forced variable overrides Cmake recognizes already the standard environment build flags. I've came across that Debhelper 20130504 was set to always switch to RelWithDebInfo build type (#701233), which yes puts -DNDEBUG into building on current Sid (Debhelper 20130605) - are there different opinions on that issue? Dropping any custom switches (instead of addition of --as-needed linker flag) Scantailor on Sid for now builds with the flags (CPP_FLAGS got injected into C_FLAGS since Debhelper 20120417, #653916): -g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -O2 -g -DNDEBUG Please further discuss that. 2) hardening of scantailor-cli As another issue remains that scantailor-cli still doesn't got fortified: $ hardening-check scantailor-cli scantailor-cli: Position Independent Executable: no, normal executable! Stack protected: yes Fortify Source functions: no, only unprotected functions found! Read-only relocations: yes Immediate binding: no not found! I'll get deeper into that issue. Bug#754202: Gamera/3.4.1-1
Thanks Dmitry for the close review and the valuable hints for further improvements. I'll get through it, luckily there is still some time until the package really gets AUTORM. Greetings, Daniel On 14.07.2014 08:21, Dmitry Smirnov wrote: Hi Daniel, I'm not sure if I have enough time to familiarise myself with the package to sponsor it but I had a quick look so here is my feedback and improvement ideas: Although debian/copyright is almost comprehensive it still misses some organisations, notably "2007 INRIA" (AKA Dolphin?), "2006 LIFL" (AKA OPAC?). Worth to clarify. Besides copyright file feels not very human-readable and therefore it is hard to review. I understand the effort that will be necessary but I still hope that eventually (when convenient) the following improvements can be made: * Sorting (please alphabetise copyright holders) * Padding with spaces (to make lists appears more like tables i.e. add spaces between copyright year and name if necessary to make all names begin from the same column). Re: Python package documentation with Sphinx: encoding related build failure
Thanks guys for the hints. Yes indeed, I've checked the Sid within Cowbuilder and the environment is set to "C". But here, several attempts to change the build LC_LANG failed so far being effective for the Sphinx build, and that error remains. I'll come back when I've got deeper into that issue. I think I've seen this with sbuilds occasionally. The fix is usually to be explicit about the encoding or make sure the locale is set to UTF-8. It'll also work differently depending on whether you're using Python 2 or 3. Sorry I'm a little fuzzy on the details - it's been a while. Hopefully that gives enough of a clue to keep digging in the right place. I had the problem with a build environment which resets LC_ALL to C or unsets it (can't remember if it's at the pbuilder or pybuild level). To print a (unicode) string, python3 needs to know how to encode the string and uses locale for that. Versioning for cherry picked after-freeze RC fixing packages
Hi, I'm searching a procedure for the following case: 1) against one my packages (it's Deap), currently a "-3" in Testing, a RC critical bug has been filed 2) the fix for that bug is already available together with other further developments as "-4" in the SVN repo, I am collecting improvements for a future package there, 3) but only RC critical bug fixes are accepted into Testing now, so I thought about creating a package "-4" which only contains the bug fix, and push the other changes into "-5" in the changelog, that's easy, 4) but then, I cannot tag the "-4" anywhere because the SVN commit history doesn't match the changelog, 5) I was thinking about creating a minor version number "-3.1" for the RC bug fix, but that's preserved for NMU (Lintian complaint), which it isn't Any experiences how to proceed? It's going to be sponsored anyway, asking the sponsor or the release team to just upload a NMU "-3.1"? Re: Versioning for cherry picked after-freeze RC fixing packages
Commit history and changelog "doesn't match" didn't mean they are connected, but maybe that's rubbish anyway ... But yes, simply unstaging the commits and reconstructing the repo for that -4/-5 would be a way, thank you very much for the suggestion. But further following the idea of an separate package, what about "-3+jessie1"? Is that a case for which this scheme is mend? Qemubuilder for arm64?
Hi, I'm trying to get Qemubuilder run for arm64 package building, but fails so far. I've got a proper kernel and initrd, but breaks with: "Your architecture arm64 does not seem to be supported". Package: sponsorship-requests Severity: wishlist Hello mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package of "hovercraft" [1]. The software is written in Python and generates beautiful impress.js based presentations which could be displayed in a browser [2], from reST sources. I've git-ized the source at collab maint [3] for now, but would like to put it under the umbrella of the PAPT - the repo could be transfered to git.debian.org/git/python-applications when it becomes available with ease (Vcs- fields kept blank). The dfsg- packaging is to take out a Python logo image which is shipped in the orig for the examples and the tests [4]. I've patched the examples but disabled the tests for now. They need python3-manuel, which is not yet available [5], anyway. I'm going to ask upstream if the image could be replaced for the next release, then. Maybe it could be discussed if python-svg.path would be a better name even for the source package. Could be put into Git before the initial upload with that repo name. Bug#775532: RFS: citeproc-py/0.3.0-1 [ITP] -- Python library for CSL based bibliography processing
Sorry I was busy. Thank you for reviewing the package! I think the RELAX NG scheme files for CSL style files aren't necessary for the citeproc to run anyway, nor really necessary to have them in the package. I'll get into that again today. Bug#775532: license of the CSL scheme files
Hi Rintze, (we've been in contact last year on my TUGBOAT article on CSL) I'm packaging Brecht Machiel's citepyroc-py for Debian and we have an issue over the license of the CSL scheme files (schema/*) which are shipped with this: for the locales and the style files it's clearly stated (headers, sources) that they're CC-BY-SA-3.0, but the only thing we could find stated for the scheme files is "Permission to freely use, copy and distribute", which doesn't comply to the free software guidelines of Debian. Is it's really mend that the scheme files are distributed under more restrict conditions than the other elements of CSL? If that's not the case, could this be declared somewhere? Greetings, Daniel Stender -- http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=debian%40danielstender.com 4096R/DF5182C8 46CB 1CA8 9EA3 B743 7676 1DB9 15E0 9AF4 DF51 82C8 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#775532: license of the CSL scheme files
Thank you very much for the reply. Yes I think a link to something like this on the project's page would do it until then, great! I'll check for it and put in the copyright register in the package, then.
