Did you upgrade both sddm and sddm-theme-breeze ? Because I didn’t see any issue when upgrading both. Thanks, -- Aurélien

Because otherwise the whole display was very white-ish and (therefor?) bright and not the normal background picture you'd see. > Did you upgrade both sddm and sddm-theme-breeze ? sddm was upgrade last night already so when I booted up this morning it look quite 'spartan', but when I then did the 'big' upgrade, sddm-theme-breeze and sddm-theme-debian-breeze were upgraded. And it was after *that* upgrade that the login screen was white-ish as described above. > Because I didn’t see any issue when upgrading both. I just opened System Settings -> Login Screen (SDDM) again to check and the *Debian* Breeze theme does not have a preview and that's what I had selected previous and "reset SDDM theme" entailed switching to the 'normal' Breeze theme. Special thanks to Debian QT/KDE team as well for Upstream QT/KDE developers, Nice, I see KDE/Plasma version 6.2.3 now in unstable. Maybe you can give an information about versions of KDE/Frameworks and KDE/Gear (KDE/Apps)? Or even QT6 version. What are the plans and ambitions for upcoming Debian/trixie aka Debian-13 release? Especially asking QT5/QT6 and KF5/KF6 compatibility. The only QT5/KF5 based package I really won't miss is quassel IRC-client. Will this still be available or a candidate to be removed? Can you clarify this? I checked my upgrade-logs and it was 21-July-2024 when I first installed plasma-desktop 6.1.0 and with a selfmade kontrast 24.08.3 package I have now all (installed) KDE/apps with version 24.08.x (x=0,1,2,3). Nice - really nice. Thanks again! Best regards, -Sedat- Link: https://kde.org/de/announcements/
make sure plasma-workspace and kde-plasma-desktop are installed (was: Re: Plasma 6 coming to unstable)
Hi! Aurélien COUDERC - 23.11.24, 13:14:40 MEZ: > after some months living in experimental and lots of positive feedback, > we're about to upload Plasma 6 to unstable. I upgraded two Plasma 6 on experimental systems just fine. No issues whatsoever! I also upgraded one pure unstable machine with Plasma 5. apt wanted to removed plasma-workspace and kde-plasma-desktop. I installed plasma-workspace afterwards again as I had no Plasma session in SDDM to choose from after reboot. I installed kde-plasma-desktop afterwards again as I only had a black screen with working krunner but no Plasma desktop with background after just installing plasma-workspace. Both meta packages are needed. It is unclear to me on why apt wanted to remove those essential meta packages as they were perfectly installable. So if you are upgrading from unstable, please make sure that you have these two meta packages installed or reinstall them. The desktop now appearing lost the background image I set for it and the control panel seems to have lost some quick starter applet for some apps, but otherwise appears to be just fine. I have seen loosing applets on previous Plasma 5 to 6 from experimental upgrades before, but was able to add new equivalent applets for most of the stuff. So maybe that is to be expected on upgrade. firewalld (was: Re: Plasma 6 coming to unstable)
Hi! Aurélien COUDERC - 23.11.24, 13:14:40 MEZ: > after some months living in experimental and lots of positive feedback, > we're about to upload Plasma 6 to unstable. The plans of the Qt / KDE […] There was another upgrade glitch: I got "no route to host" on attempting to SSH into the pure unstable machine after installing "kde-plasma-desktop". I found apt installed "firewalld" probably for "plasma-firewall" package. Yep: Recommends: firewalld | ufw I removed firewalld and was able to SSH again. Of course you can also just allow SSH again in Plasma Firewall. I have SSH on a non standard port. If you like to use local IP filter functionality you can either use firewalld or ufw with Plasma Firewall. Okay, otherwise all appears to be just fine! Which is great. It is a major upgrade. And for the first attempt on it in unstable it worked really nicely! Thank you. Best, -- Martin - please no carbon copy to me

Maybe the reason is as easy as mirror not yet having been complete. I upgraded again after the major upgrade and plasma-desktop was upgraded to 6.2.3-1. So maybe some temporary not yet all was complete thing. Look carefully whether apt wants to remove plasma-workspace and kde-plasma-desktop. If it does for testing purposes it would be kind of you could wait a bit more to see whether it goes through at a later time. Otherwise make sure you install them again. Please no CC. Hi Sedat. Sedat Dilek - 26.11.24, 10:20:16 MEZ: > Maybe you can give an information about versions of KDE/Frameworks and > KDE/Gear (KDE/Apps)? > Or even QT6 version. What do you mean by that? You can just look what is in unstable now. As for final versions for Trixie? Probably still too early for this. > What are the plans and ambitions for upcoming Debian/trixie aka > Debian-13 release? Please allow the Qt/KDE team a little time to rest after this major upgrade. At the moment it is more important to report on any issues you find so the experience can be made as smooth as possible for those who upgrade later or will upgrade stable to Trixie in the future. > Especially asking QT5/QT6 and KF5/KF6 compatibility. Did you actually read what Aurélien has written? As I understand Qt 5 / KF 5 based applications can remain in archive for Trixie. Best, -- Martin - please no carbon copy to me
ppp and Network Manager (was: Re: Plasma 6 coming to unstable)
Hi!. Aurélien COUDERC - 23.11.24, 13:14:40 MEZ: > after some months living in experimental and lots of positive feedback, > we're about to upload Plasma 6 to unstable. One additional thing that can happen, which is not directly related to Plasma 6 upload to unstable: Apt wants to remove Network Manager in case you have package ppp installed. So either avoid using "apt full-upgrade" (or "dist-upgrade") for now or (temporarily) remove package ppp. I think most users do not need it. Best -- Martin - please no carbon copy to me

The upgrade on my main Sid PC went surprisingly smooth \o/ FTR: The upgrade which I reported previously on was on my laptop. These were the *only* things I needed to do: - Reset SDDM's theme (similar to laptop) - Redefine several shortcuts (which seems to be a recurring 'issue' when having such a large upgrade; no biggy) - Clicking links in Quassel no longer works. I noticed this too on my laptop. Scott Kitterman filed a bug *5* years ago for wayland support in Quassel: https://bugs.quassel-irc.org/issues/1534 and nothing has happened since. Also the upstream repo seems to be a wasteland for a while, so I was already planning to dump Quassel. Guess I should accelerate that. But those are really the only things I've found thus far :-O Well done KDE team :-D Cheers, Diederik signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Still remains. I think I keep Quassel for now at Qt5/KF5 is supposed to be available during Trixie. I hope upstreams updates it to Qt6/KF6 in time.
