Re: Sharing mail in KMail

2003-09-11 Thread Antiphon
It's not so simple as just symlinking the Mail folder
since you'd also have to do the same with
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail and
~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc and set the permissions.
If you just share Mail, then KMail will redownload the

messages whenever the other person checks for mail
since the settings are different for each local user.

The best way is to set up an IMAP server but this can
be annoying esp. if you are trying to conserve
resources or are paranoid. Another way would be to
tell KMail to leave your mail on your ISP's server
(assuming it's POP3 based) and then share the sent
message folders.

Sending mails. Opera 7.11 on Linux

2003-09-11 Thread Raul Claro
11. Sep 03

I have downloaded in Linux (Woody, KDE 2.2.2) Opera 7.11. I set an Account
with freenet. When I want to receive ("Check"), there is no problem. I get the
machine messages: "Connecting - authenticating - checking folders...". But if
I want to send ("Send") nothing at all happens. This is true both if I set
username and password on the mask "Outgoing SMTP-Server" or if I leave that
blank. I am pretty sure the account is correctly set, as I use in Windows
Opera 6 for a long time already. With KMail and Mozilla there is no problem,
I can send mails perfectly.
Another (smaller) problem is that the received mails appear with a
long format on Date (e. gr. "Thursday, 11 September 2003" or somethiing like
that [now I am writing from Windows]). I want the smaller format "11.9.2003".
Changing the setting in KDE, Panel, does not seem to do the trick.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

That is completely OT and has nothing to do with KDE, that's all Opera
related and you should ask them for help.

In normal use, you should run just use apt-get upgrade. This will cause
apt to upgrade any packages which it can without installing new packages
or removing old ones.

apt-get dist-upgrade will tell apt to do its best to install new
packages. This permits to both to install new packages which you did not
previously have installed, and also to remove packages if it needs to.
As such, dist-upgrade should be used sparingly, and carefully.

kdbg package for KDE3.1

2003-09-11 Thread Tsolakos Stavros
Hi list.
I have installed KDE 3.1 and I would like to setup kdbg. However, I
can't find a suitable source, and, googling for +kdbg +debian I found
some messages by people requesting kdbg, but the link was broken. Where
can I find kdbg for KDE 3.1? Thank you all in advance, and, please, if I
have not sent this message to the right list, point me where could I ask
similar questions.

Setting variables?

How does one set a shell variable when logging in with kdm? IE I want to
set LANG=en_US to work around the gtk font bug. Works fine in a shell but
menu items and the Application Launcher appear not to run a shell first.

I am not sure if there are other ways but kdm does set LANG via pam_env
/etc/environment if you have one. If you are missing that file run
dpkg-reconfigure locales.

That worked but it isn't what I'd consider ideal. I saw some archived
messages about putting LANG exports into .xsession or .Xsession but that
hasn't worked for me. Forcing all users into English is bad as one of 'em is
from Germany. :)

What version of Debian are you using? kdbg is in Debian/sid, which is
the only version of Debian currently containing KDE3. If you are not
using sid, perhaps you could try downloading the sid source package and
compiling it for whatever version of KDE you are using?

Okay. Can you post a copy of your /etc/apt/apt.conf and /etc/apt/

running apt-get install kdebase.

If you don't have either of the files mentioned above, try creating a

Okay. If you know look at apt-cache policy kdebase, you should see that
apt wants to upgrade kdebase.

Try:
  apt-get install kdebase

This should try and upgrade the packages you want. Looking at the list
you posted, it looks like apt also now wants to upgrade some other
packages, such as xserver-xfree86 and mozilla. You can use "apt-cache
policy" and apt-get to install these packages as you see fit.

Unstable upgrade caused SOME fonts to go away.

2003-09-11 Thread Ian Williamson
I just recently upgraded my unstable version of Debian that I run under VMWare
(don't know if that matters) and have had a strange problem. Right from when
kdm comes up, many of the controls don't show any text.

In the referenced tarball below I have stuck pictures of the user interface
before and after the upgrade (named appropriately before.jpg and after.jpg).
There is also a text file containing the transcript of the apt-get upgrade.

http://members.shaw.ca/iwilliamson/bugpics.tar.gz

Here's some notes on behaviour:
SOME text fields are fine.
While Konsole comes up blank, if I cover it with another window and the uncover
it the text is usually there.
This makes me believe it's not really the font, but the control.
Sometimes it looks like the text is drawn on screen THEN the background is
erased.
The high-lighted entry in a menu usually shows fine, but none of the
"un-selected" ones do. (see menu.jpg)
Non KDE apps are unaffected. (e.g. Xterm is fine)

So, this looks to me like a QT bug (or cache problem or misconfiguration or
???). Is there something in the transcript that would point to what package is
causing me grief?

Please have a look at the pictures and tell me what you think I should door
if you would like more info

Re: kdbg package for KDE3.1

2003-09-11 Thread Ben Burton

> Ben Burton has packages of kdbg built against 3.0.3 on people.debian.org.

When KDE 3.1 was uploaded to sid, I took those 3.0.3 packages down since
they essentially because untested and unmaintained (IIRC this was also
in the middle of several transitions including gcc2 -> gcc3, and it
seemed it would just create more confusion leaving them up).

As Paul suggests, I'd try downloading the source package from sid and
building it yourself (fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage) on your 3.0.3 system.

I use /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsession where I set
GNUPGHOME=/mnt/yourRemoveablePath
export GNUPGHOME

This work for all the users.

I have not find a way to do this for only one specific user :=(

kdebase upgrade 3.1.3, apt sources not including ftp.kde.org, how to interpret the results of apt-get errors?

2003-09-11 Thread Warren Postma
When I try a "apt-get -t untable dist-upgrade", I notice kdebase is
being held back.
So I tried to do an upgrade of kdebase "apt-get -t unstable install
kdebase". It says it can't because of a dependency on sysguard. So I
try to install sysguard, and it says it has a dependency on sysguardd,
and sysguardd has a dependency on libsensors which is not installable,
no such package. I appear to have the same problem as the other fellow
who is trying to install kdebase 3.1.3. Since I already have 3.1.2
installed I don't see as I have to upgrade, but I am nonetheless eager
to learnwhat is *really* going on here...

Does this essentially mean that the Debian unstable branch does not have
a complete working set of packages? Have I apprehended the situation,
or has the situation eluded me? If you could advise, I'd be grateful.

Spanish translation of kdm spanish templates

2003-09-11 Thread Carlos Valdivia Yagüe
Hi folks,

1 year and 110 days ago I submitted #128933. If my work is appreciated,
like the comment in bug report states, could it please it be «fixed»?

If there are any problems, let me know. Personally I find rather unfair
to ignore i18n-related bugs (#137940, #142540, #132615 and #107023). I
can even offer a patch to do the po-debconf switch at the same time,
contacting other translators, merging bugs and so on, if it's your
desire.

Ciao, Carlos.
