Bug#440625: fp-compiler: fails to terminate without any output

2007-09-03 Thread Jochem Berndsen
Package: fp-compiler
Version: 2.0.0-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

FreePascal as included in the etch distribution does not work on my computer.
It fails to produce any output, and seems to hang. An strace indicates that
it waits for ppc386 to terminate, but that never happens.
There is nothing on the standard output or standard error.
CTRL+C terminates FPC with the message
  Error: Compilation aborted
The problem persists, using fpc without any command-line parameters or with a
..pas-file indicated.

I'm using FPC from sid right now, which works.
I'm willing to assist in debugging this problem, if you need any debugging
output, please ask.

Bug#440630: bsdmainutils: hexdump is lost, needs a new upload with appropriate conflicts

2007-09-03 Thread Pierre Habouzit
Package: bsdmainutils
Version: 6.1.6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

The bug is not really because of bsdmainutils, but because of
bsdutils. It used to ship a hexdump binary, with a Replaces:
bsdmainutils stanza in the debian/control. Due to #439905 it no longer
does, and no coordinated upload was done, so now many platforms do not
have a hexdump anymore.

You need to do an upload with a Conflicts on bsdutils (<< 1:2.13-2)
wich is the first version without a hexdump.

Cheers,

Bug#440633: python-kde3: missing dcopext.py and dcopexport.py in package

2007-09-03 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: python-kde3
Version: 3.16.0-1
Severity: grave

Hello.

The latest python-kde3 package does not include dcopext.py and
dcopexport.py as it used to. This breaks applications, eg. minirok.

Cheers,

Bug#440646: squid3: Incorrect content returned by pre7

2007-09-03 Thread ian
Package: squid3
Version: 3.0.PRE7-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Starting with PRE7, squid3 appears to return data from other recent
URLs. For example: browsing ftp.kernel.org, I clicked on a changelog file
to read it. I instead got one of the filetype icons. I reloaded and
got another icon. It took a few reloads to get the intended changelog
to load. On another occasion, a Wikipedia article was seriously
corrupted. Pages which load many style sheets, little images,
javascript, etc seem to be most succeptable to this bug.

Bug#440647: Missing dependancy for openoffice.org-common

2007-09-03 Thread Barry Klein
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.x
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

If openoffice.org-base is not installed, opening DictOOo.sxw
(File>Wizards>Install new dictionaries), OpenOffice.org crashes.
Also applies to any other file that contains macros.

This applies to all versions of OpenOffice.org Version 2.

OpenOffice.org-base is a non-essential part of OpenOffice. It should be
possible to not install it to save download time or so as not to confuse
users with a program they are not likely to use.

Umm, no.

Define crashes. hangs? Or what? It does that here also with base
installed. (Although with a 2.3 development version)

Neither is DicOOo. (imho)

That's what we do currently. That's why -common does not depend on
-base.

The openoffice.org metapackage is exactly there for people who don't
know what they do, if people just install -writer etc they should know
what they do...

I am currently thinking about reworking the packages' contents,
though...

Bug#423773: Bug fixed when exactly?

2007-09-03 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi Cyril,

in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=423773#10 you write
that the bug is fixed, and you specify “0.6.17-1” as the version it is
fixed in. That version number does not seem to be gtk2hs’ nor ghc6’s
version − what package is it? If the bug was fixed somewhere else than
in gtk2hs, could you close the bug properly?

Thanks,
Joachim

Hello Loïc,

I didn't get a segfault when I run neither 'echo -foo | grep --color=auto -vw

nor 'echo -foo | grep -vw foo'.

When I run 'echo -foo bar | grep --color=auto -w foo -foo bar', I get:

-foo bar

with "foo" coloured red.

Hello Pierre,

$ /bin/grep -w p_new *.c
head = p_new(archive_head, 1);
file = p_new(archive_file, 1);
file->attrs = p_new(archive_file_attr *, file->nb_attrs);

file->attrs = p_new(archive_file_attr *, file->nb_attrs);

Hi,

I can still reproduce it, both on the system where I originally
reproduced it, and on my laptop (x86 in a clean & up-to-date sid
chroot).

Could you post the build log, so we can compare it with mine?

Hi,
the bug I reported looks quite similar to 440342.
I even think it's the same bug.
Can you reproduce bug 440342 ?

The --color wasn't necessary. Loïc apparently has grep aliased or
GREP_OPTIONS set?

> $ locale

What about LANG=en_AU.UTF8?

$ echo -foo |LC_ALL=en_AU ./tmp/grep.unstable -vw foo
$ echo -foo |LC_ALL=en_AU.UTF8 ./tmp/grep.unstable -vw
foo
Segmentation fault

I just re-confirmed the reported misbehavior of the rest of these grep
bugs too.

I've read the policy, and you're right about writing the SMTP hostname
to /etc/mailname: it's really different things in the general case. I
have fixed this locally: although the config script stills reads
/etc/mailname as a default SMTP hostname, it will never write to
/etc/mailname.

This bug will be closed on the next release. Thanks.

José Fonseca

thanks

Architectures different from i386 are not supported by this game yet. I plan
to fix that in the future, but I'll have to wait until I can accedd a
machine with different endianess to do the tests.

Indeed, dsdp which is what the package depends on hang for too long in
the NEW queue. However as it got accepted just today this will all
resolve to the better very soon.

You're playing with everyone's nerves are you ? Don't you grok that
you are not reproducing the bug in the environment reported by every
single users ? It's pretty obvious the issue is with utf-8 locales, and
you're trying in one that isn't even a multi-byte one.

I was pretty dismayed when you sent me a similar answer, I just can't
believe that you just handwave a "I can't reproduce it" to every single
user that has issues with the last grep release. Do you believe everyone
is just making it up to annoy you ?

Hi.

Please wait for the current xmms2-plugin-wma package to migrate to
testing. It depends on xmms2 plugin packages (xmms2-plugin-avformat,
xmms2-plugin-avcodec) which in turn depend on the appropriate packages
(libavcodec1d, libavformat1d).

Bug#432829: Status of grokking-the-gimp in Debian

2007-09-03 Thread Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz
Hello.

I have noticed that your grokking-the-gimp package has not been
updated in a long while, including not answering a RC bug report
(#432829).

If you are no longer interested in this package, please consider
orphaning it so someone else with interest may pick it
up. Alternatively, if you consider the package is no longer relevant,
please ask for its removal. In making a decision do take into account
the concerns expressed in the bug report.

Please note that I'm not interested in adopting the package.

Thank you for your work in Debian.

Bug#438152: Working on it

Hola Daniel Baumann!

This can be correctly fixed by renaming the file. This is how it was done
before (that's how it is in Etch), and thus the users can still have Apache
installed.

Please, fix it apropiately. A Conflict is not an apropiate fix.

The problem is somewhere in the robust_list implementation. If I disable
the functions the kernels does not longer show this behaviour. As this
code is generic, I expect a toolchain bug, but was not able to find
anything.

second initramfs-tools does _not_ shipp kpartx.
third the hooks to add kpartx are in multipath-tools-initramfs
thus reassigning.
fourth you didn't paste the actual error message.

check the modprobe alias files ;)
also this bugs pertains to module-init-tools,
as initramfs-tools directly invoces modprobe.

Bug#440508: [patch] provide a way around the lack of MPEG2 encoder

2007-09-03 Thread Cyrille Chépélov
this patch (already posted in #440216), which ought to be taken with
huge "WORKS FOR ME" gloves, works around the problem for me.

In order to do this, I had to fall back on the MPEG1 encoder, with tons
and tons of key frames thrown in to limit the display jagginess.

Why the big WORKS FOR ME gloves:
1. only ever tested here
2. on a 720p HDMI(DVI-D) display
3. through a HD module on Ethernet only
4. meaning, no consideration for possibly more constrained situations
(V5->HD through wifi/mimo, V4, interlaced SD display, etc) were taken.

However, things looks acceptably great here.

Bug#440143: Until official package relase

Hi !

Until the official package is accepted, I grabbed the debian related
files from
svn://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-utopia/packages/unstable/network-manager-applet

and build an unofficial network-manager-gnome package.

People can download it from here : http://hal.servaux.org/~romain/nm/

I will remove it as soon as the official package is released.

Thanks for your great work,
Cheers,

Sure, env gives as output the attached file.

After purging the sid fp-compiler package, and reinstalling, the problem does
not occur again.
Very strange, but I cannot reproduce the problem. I suppose the bug can be
closed now?

The problem did occur when using 'fpc' without any parameters, or when using
'fpc x.pas -Mdelphi' with a trivial program.

Bug#440704: Package vim completely broken on alpha

2007-09-03 Thread Peter J. Holzer
Package: vim
Version: 6.3-071+1sarge2
Severity: grave

Installation of vim on alpha fails with the following error:

Unpacking vim-common (from .../vim-common_1%3a6.3-071+1sarge2_all.deb) ...
Unpacking vim (from .../vim_1%3a6.3-071+1sarge2_alpha.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/vim_1%3a6.3-071+1sarge2_alpha.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/vim/vim63/vimrc_example.vim', which is also in
package vim-common
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/vim_1%3a6.3-071+1sarge2_alpha.deb

However, the duplicate file isn't the only problem. The package is also
missing the vim executable, instead it contains lots of HTML files which
seem to belong in vim-doc (but it's not exactly like vim-doc either, so
it's not just a matter of mixed-up filenames).

The packages for i386 and sparc seem to be ok.

Hello.

The latest python-kde3 package does not include dcopext.py and
dcopexport.py as it used to. This breaks applications, eg. minirok.

Cheers,

The postinst script of this package runs ld which seems to be eating
over 500 MB of virtual memory. This is excessive! Why is not linking
done at package build time?

Bug#427326: Patch for libgdchart-gd2 #427326

tags 427326 patch

thanks

The attached patch makes use of d-shlibs --override feature
(introduced in 0.30) to solve this problem.

I'm not certain if this override should be included by d-shlibs, since
it is different for each of the packages, depending on whether one is
using {xpm,no-xpm}.

Hi!

The udeb created by brltty depends on the libgpmg1 package which is not
available in the debian-installer environment.

Attached is a patch that should fix the issue (although untested, as
brltty also FTBFS on my pbuilder and several buildds).

Cheers,

Bug#427406: No more mouse/keyboard-input possible after closing crashed application

2007-09-03 Thread Ivan Baldo

   I suggest two things:
1 - forwarding the bug upstream: because maybe they want to look
into this to make the application or library more robust.
2 - see what makes GTK+ 2.11 refuse to create the icon cache and
backport it to GTK+ 2.10, then close this bug: so Metacity transitions
to testing without this problem.

Otherwise, if those things are much work, then just wait till GTK+
2.12 gets done and uploaded to testing and then close this bug.

   Its just an opinion...
Thanks for all your great work guys!!!

Bug#440739: check.info: syntax error in metadata

2007-09-03 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: check
Version: 0.9.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (uninstallable)

| Setting up check (0.9.5-1) ...
| install-info(/usr/share/info/check.info): warning, ignoring confusing
INFO-DIR-ENTRY in file.
|
| No `START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY' and no `This file documents'.
| install-info(/usr/share/info/check.info): unable to determine description for
`dir' entry - giving up
| dpkg: error processing check (--configure):

I think the problem may be the presence of two INFO-DIR-SECTION lines
with other text in between.

Bug#440646: squid3: Incorrect content returned by pre7

2007-09-03 Thread Luigi Gangitano

Hi Ian,
this bug may be related to the large object (>2GB) support introduced
upstream between PRE6 and PRE7. Can you please try the follow:

- backup your cache_dir (just move it to somewhere else)
- create a new cache_dir (squid will create it automatically if you
point it to an empty directory)

- check if error persists

If this doesn't happen with a fresh cache_dir, the issue could be
related to the code that updates format of object indexes. Otherwise
we need the old cache_dir to investigate what is wrong in you
indexes. Did you create this cache_dir with a squid3 package or it
was created with an earlier (2.x) version?

Regards,

L

Starting with PRE7, squid3 appears to return data from other recent
URLs. For example: browsing ftp.kernel.org, I clicked on a
changelog file

Bug#425942: Raising severity

2007-09-03 Thread Raphael
severity 425942 serious
thanks

The Linux kernel version currently available in testing is 2.6.21,
making this package useless (because it is not possible to compile the
module).
