Bug#604884: Debian redmine won't work with many Rails/actionpacks installed
Hi, what you do here is totally unsupported, as a debian package, and i doubt it's going to work even with the pristine redmine tarball until a rails 3 compatible version is out. However, you could try hacking your environment.rb to load versioned rails gems as described in http://docs.rubygems.org/read/chapter/4 (bottom of page). Could you please paste the output of: $ LANG=C update-alternatives --display java ? Bug#604217: axiom: diff for NMU version 20100701-1.1
tags 604217 + patch tags 604217 + pending thanks Dear maintainer, I've prepared an NMU for axiom (versioned as 20100701-1.1) and uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Please feel free to tell me if I should delay it longer. Regards. Bug#604772: update-manager-core: Update Manager Help File will not load-invalid URL
Sorry - it was my bad typing, the message actually includes the colon. However the address apparently being used by the 'Help' section is WRONG, it should be: "file:///usr/share/omf/update-manager/update-manager-C.omf". i.e it is missing the update-manager folder section. I'd guess a script error somewhere in the gnome help section, sorry I don't have time to grep for it at the moment. Bug#604907: mldonkey-server: Stops with "Too many open files for directory open" message
Package: mldonkey-server Version: 3.0.3-4 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Sometimes mldonkey halts with "Too many open files for directory open" message in log file. As far as I can tell, it's caused by "Max open files" ulimit - default setting is 1024 files, and that limit can be reached easily with a single torrent file. Adding "ulimit -n 16384" into to /etc/default/mldonkey-server solved the issue for me. It would be nice to add this into startup script / README. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-openvz-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mldonkey-server depends on: ii adduser3.112 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.36Debian configuration management sy ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-6 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2.1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.4.2-2.1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.4.5-6 GCC support library ii libgd2-xpm 2.0.36~rc1~dfsg-5 GD Graphics Library version 2 ii libjpeg62 6b1-1 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-0 1.2.44-1 PNG library - runtime ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-6 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-3 X11 client-side library ii libxpm41:3.5.8-1 X11 pixmap library ii mime-support 3.48-1MIME files 'mime.types' & 'mailcap ii ucf3.0025+nmu1 Update Configuration File: preserv ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime mldonkey-server recommends no packages. mldonkey-server suggests no packages. -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#604908: ITP: alsaequal -- Real-time adjustable equalizer plugin for ALSA
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Alessandro Ghedini * Package name: alsaequal Version : 0.6 Upstream Author : Charles Eidsness * URL : http://www.thedigitalmachine.net/alsaequal.html * License : LGPL Programming Lang: C Description : Real-time adjustable equalizer plugin for ALSA It can be adjusted using an ALSA compatible mixer, like alsamixergui or alsamixer. Alsaequal uses the Eq CAPS LADSPA Plugin for audio processing, actually alsaequal is a generic LADSPA plugin interface with real-time access to the LADSPA controls (the LADSPA plugin included with alsa doesn't allow for real-time controls) but it was developed for and only tested with Eq CAPS LADSPA plugin. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#604813: crashes with emacs and gtk
Package: emacs Version: 23.2+1-5.1 Severity: normal Unfortunately it's only a backtrace from a coredump... I had mouse focus problems today and restarted my X server and the emacs that was started from my .xsession crashed, apparently after I edited a Mail with emacsclient (guessing from the lisp backtrace). The backtrace looks good this time though, at least to my (emacs-gtk-untrained) eye. ,[ gdb.txt ] Thread 1 (Thread 9303): #0 0x7f46ef41f447 in kill () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:82 No locals. #1 0x004e4791 in fatal_error_signal (sig=) at emacs.c:402 No locals. #2 No symbol table info available. #3 0x7f46f2f0a030 in IA__g_type_check_instance_cast (type_instance=0x7557a00, iface_type=80) at /scratch/build-area/glib2.0-2.24.2/gobject/gtype.c:3971 node = 0x6c0702000c0e000c iface = is_instantiatable = #4 0x7f46eab8bbf5 in ca_gtk_context_get_for_screen () from /usr/lib/libcanberra-gtk.so.0 No symbol table info available. #5 0x7f46eab8c19d in ca_gtk_play_for_widget () from /usr/lib/libcanberra-gtk.so.0 No symbol table info available. #6 0x7f46eadb420a in ?? This must be a problem in the perl engine somewhere rather than apt-cacher itself. I notice you are using CGI mode which could also point to the apache perl module as well. A perl script, like apt-cacher, shouldn't be able to crash the perl engine. Have you upgraded perl/apache recently? Is your system up to date? I would recommend you switch to daemon mode which will give you better apt-cacher performance and will also exclude any apache module problems. As far as the actual problem goes, I think you will need to install perl-debug to get the symbols and then run the whole thing under gdb. I am going to reassign this to libperl5.10. You don't have to reinstall, you can just add deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ experimental main to your /etc/apt/sources.list and then execute this: apt-get update apt-get -t experimental install linux-image-2.6.36-trunk-686 If your system is currently unable to boot, you can try adding "nolapic" and/or "acpi=off" to the kernel parameters when booting. This will deactivate your wifi. This is a valid workaround, but no longtime solution since this breaks (amongst others) SMP. Bug#604912: debhelper: Update examples to use build-arch and build-indep targets
Package: debhelper Version: 8.0.0 Severity: normal Tags: patch I have attached a patch to add support for build-arch and build-indep targets to the example rules files. Additionally (not in the patch), I noticed that there is a great deal of similarity between the rules.arch, rules.indep and rules.multi files. Is there actually a need for these three separate files rather than simply having a single one (based on rules.multi)? The multi rules file is hardly more complex than the single binary rules files, having all the same targets, and it's not like maintaining a package making a single binary is any different from one containing multiple binaries. In fact, encouraging use of the multi-rules file from the start makes things much simpler down the line, when a maintainer needs to add additional packages and finds that they need to refactor stuff. The unused -arch or -indep targets will simply do nothing until required. Also, given its much simpler nature, and reduction of long term maintenance burden on Debian when we want to make archive-wide updates due to Policy changes, is the tiny rules file being promoted as the "recommended way" to use debhelper? Should it be? (Either that, or cdbs w/ debhelper.) Thanks, Roger -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (550, 'unstable'), (400, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.36-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages debhelper depends on: ii binutils 2.20.1-15 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii dpkg-dev 1.15.8.6Debian package development tools ii file 5.04-5 Determines file type using "magic" ii html2text1.3.2a-15 advanced HTML to text converter ii man-db 2.5.7-6 on-line manual pager ii perl 5.10.1-16 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-base5.10.1-16 minimal Perl system ii po-debconf 1.0.16+nmu1 tool for managing templates file t debhelper recommends no packages. The existing build target depends upon both of these targets. Add corresponding install-arch and install-indep targets. Existing binary-arch and binary-indep targets use new rules in place of old build and install targets. Additional changes are to give better guidance as to best practice in writing scripts and makefiles. Example install command uses: - DESTDIR in place of prefix (much less broken where prefix is not present in variables such as $(sysconfdir) and $(localstatedir), for example). - $(CURDIR) used in place of `pwd` (more efficient, no external command is run). - Uses $$(dh_listpackages) in place of `dh_listpackages` (more robust if changed in the future, given the broken quoting behaviour of backquotes). Stamp files touch "$@" rather than the stamp file name (more robust if the target name changes). Trailing whitespace cleaned up. rules.multi2 was deleted. Its pattern rule to build individual packages does not work with separate build-arch and build-indep targets, because it requires us to know if the package is architecture dependent or independent. This could probably be accomplished using some quite complex shell functions to run and parse the output of dh_listpackages. But given the lack of need for this functionality (dpkg-buildpackage doesn't make use of it, and it's not mentioned in Policy), I removed it. Bug#604560: Isn't this the same as #604245?
Hi, Please try the following: instead of extracting boot.img.gz straight into your pendrive (zcat boot.img.gz >/dev/sdX), create a DOS partition table on the pendrive with an at least 250MB large first partition, make the partition active (bootable), and extract boot.img.gz into that partition (zcat boot.img.gz >/dev/sdX1). Also put some boot code into the MBR (cat /usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin >/dev/sdX after installing the syslinux package), then try booting from it again. -- Thanks, Feri. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#604916: network-manager: support for additional configuration
Package: network-manager Version: 0.8.1-4 Severity: wishlist It would be nice if (at least for experienced users) network-manager could enable them to modify some system configurations depending on the connection profile chosen. Some of this comes naturally through integration with resolvconf (which automagically sets up a local caching nameserver to use the nameservers specified in resolvconf, or obtained through dhcp, as forwarders). Another typical configuration which could be supported is the setting up of appropriate smarthosts for email delivery, be it via resolvconf or directly, or proxy servers etc.. Indeed, it would be desirable to be able to use the information which is obtained by dhcp (or which could be given by optional fields in the network-manager interface for setting up connections) for setting up appropriately services or, at least, environment variables (so that one could write resolvconf scripts to use them, for example). As things stand, depending on where I move to work I have every time to manually set up exim4 to use the appropriate local smarthost, my browser to use the appropriate local proxy etc., despite network-manager automatically recognising the appropriate wireless network, and correctly connecting to it. It would be so much nicer if I could at least optionally attach a shell script to each network connection, so that everything would be set up just by choosing it. () This might be the 'crash without threads' case in http://rt.perl.org/rt3/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=60724 in which case change http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/commit/01be0729981136a058cce07a897ccdb94609e1c0 would fix it. I can imagine this happening if Apache kills its CGI children with SIGTERM (sig=15 above) for some reason and the script happens to be simultaneously exiting itself. The above change is in Perl 5.12, wich will enter Debian after the Squeeze release. It's rather hard to be certain if this is the right fix. Markus, if this is reproducible enough for you would you like to test if the fix works? You could rebuild the perl package yourself with the patch (it applies cleanly against 5.10.1), or I can provide you the .debs if you like. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#604919: dpkg: Please add support for build-arch and build-indep targets
Package: dpkg Version: 1.15.8.6 Severity: normal Tags: patch In order to allow full use of Build-Depends-Indep, and to allow autobuilding of arch-indep packages on our buildds, as well as more efficient building of arch-any packages (since building arch-indep stuff can be skipped), I'd like to get full support for the build-arch and build-indep targets in debian/rules as a release goal for wheezy. The autobuild infrastructure is already capable of handling Build-(Depends|Conflicts)-Indep correctly. But, since sbuild uses dpkg-buildpackage to build the packages, we always call 'debian/rules build' in all cases. The solution is to fix dpkg-buildpackage. The attached patch lets dpkg-buildpackage call the build-arch and build-indep targets when appropriate: When run with -b (default), use 'build' and 'binary' targets. When run with -B, use 'build-arch' and 'binary-arch' targets. When run with -A, use 'build-indep' and 'binary-indep' targets. The patch can't be applied just yet, because the build-arch and build-indep targets are not yet required by Policy, though they are defined in Policy. See #604397 for the proposal to change it to being required. Policy won't change until we have sufficient archive coverage to allow that. cdbs already supplies the appropriate targets, and debhelper's dh tool has patches I wrote pending to add support there. Combined, these two tools should give just under 50% coverage of the entire archive (estimated from the lintian lab source archive). And the next step is to add a check to lintian to warn if the targets are not present. So hopefully when these prerequisites are met, the patch can be applied. Bug#475657: retitle and merge these bugs/confirming
Hi, First up, Not really sure how these differ. They both appear to be different takes on 'please make the folder structure configurable'. Perhaps they could be merged? Secondly, I have to agree with the configuration issue. I like to layout my music with the year of release in the folder structure, so its like this: The Prodigy - 1994 - Music for the Jilted Generation/01 -Intro.ogg The year is the bit i can't do with sound-juicer at the moment. I did fire up gconf, and found there is a setting to change this (/apps/sound-juicer/path_pattern for anyone interested), but changes here are not reflected in the UI (The 'album hierarchy' bit is blank), so i can't tell without doing a rip if it works. Annoyingly i a broken cd drive at the moment, so can't test if it at least works... This/These issues look more like these bugzilla bugs[1][2] then that mentioned in earlier posts of 475657. Bug#604922: apt-listchanges: non-ASCII mail not properly encoded
Package: apt-listchanges Version: 2.85.5 Severity: normal Mail sent by apt-listchanges is not properly encoded when the changelogs or news files have non-ASCII characters. If I configure my mail server (postfix) to reject 8-bit messages without proper encoding (http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html#strict_8bitmime) then it will reject apt-listchanges mails. As an example, apticron (http://packages.qa.debian.org/a/apticron.html) does properly encode mail with the same changelogs. Also, apt-listchanges mail always has a "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit" header, even when that's not true. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages apt-listchanges depends on: ii apt 0.8.8Advanced front-end for dpkg ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.36 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 3.4 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii python 2.6.6-3+squeeze1 interactive high-level object-orie ii python-apt 0.7.98.1 Python interface to libapt-pkg ii python-support 1.0.10 automated rebuilding support for P ii ucf 3.0025+nmu1 Update Configuration File: preserv Versions of packages apt-listchanges recommends: ii postfix [mail-transport-agent 2.7.1-1High-performance mail transport ag Versions of packages apt-listchanges suggests: ii epiphany-browser [w 2.30.6-1 Intuitive GNOME web browser ii iceweasel [www-brow 3.6.12-2 Web browser based on Firefox ii konqueror [www-brow 4:4.4.5-1advanced file manager, web browser ii konsole [x-terminal 4:4.4.5-1X terminal emulator ii links [www-browser] 2.3~pre1-1 Web browser running in text mode ii lynx-cur [www-brows 2.8.8dev.5-1 Text-mode WWW Browser with NLS sup pn python-glade2 (no description available) ii python-gtk2 2.17.0-4 Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii rxvt-unicode-ml [x- 9.07-2+b1multi-lingual terminal emulator wi ii uzbl [www-browser] 0.0.0~git.20100403-3 Lightweight Webkit browser followi ii w3m [www-browser] 0.5.2-9 WWW browsable pager with excellent ii xfce4-terminal [x-t 0.4.5-1 Xfce terminal emulator ii xterm [x-terminal-e 261-1X terminal emulator -- debconf information: * apt-listchanges/confirm: true * apt-listchanges/email-address: ken...@kenyonralph.com * apt-listchanges/which: both * apt-listchanges/frontend: pager * apt-listchanges/save-seen: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". No, the downloads in apt seem to work without any apparent problem, at least I couldn't find any errors in the logs. So you're probably right with your assumption that it's a race between perl terminating itself and apache terminating the CGI. Bug#604754: texlive-latex-base: Possibly indexing problem leads to latex failing
Hi Hilmar, Thanks for the follow-up. I added two CCs to two members of the R Core team with whom I had exchanged puzzled notes on this earlier. We were just guessing to be honest. What we found was that replacing \documentclass[a4paper]{book} with \documentclass[letterpaper]{book} also suppressed the bug which made us think it had to do with the indexing, what is which page etc. It course of course be a garden-variety coding error. Feel free to change the bug report title accordingly. Long-standing and not-fixed does not sound great though. Too bad there aren't too many deep tex experts around. :-/ So I guess we'll have to keep this one open? Bug#559153: Unable to purge mindi
Hi! * Jon Ander Peñalba [091202 11:59]: > When I try to purge mindi with aptitude I get this error: > /var/lib/dpkg/info/mindi.postrm: line 12: cd: /usr/lib/mindi: No such file or > directory > Aparently mindi is trying to delete the files isolinux-H.cfg, isolinux.cfg, > syslinux-H.cfg and syslinux.cfg that are in that directory, but the directory > doesn't exisct. Looking through the list of rc bugs, I found that one, which seems fixable, but as I don't know how to fix #539678, I just write down, what I found out: Steps to reproduce: 1. Log into a clean chroot (e.g. pbuilder --login) 2. Install mindi 3. apt-get remove mindi _and_ mindi-busybox 4. apt-get purge mindi The problem is, that mindi's postrm script doesn't distinguish between removal and purge (and doesn't check, if /usr/lib/mindi exists). When the package is removed, the postrm script is called, the files are removed, and since this directory is know empty, it is also removed. When the package is purged, the postrm script is called again, trying to change into the now no longer existing directory. Ways to fix this: * Distinguish between remove and purge actions of the script and only act once * Check if the directory exists before changing into it * Remove the files with complete path, instead of the cd and remove stuff * ignore errors on cd I guess the third option is the best, so the trivial patch would be: - ( cd $MINDI_LIB && rm -f isolinux-H.cfg isolinux.cfg syslinux-H.cfg syslinux.cfg ) + rm -f $MINDI_LIB/isolinux-H.cfg + rm -f $MINDI_LIB/isolinux.cfg + rm -f $MINDI_LIB/syslinux-H.cfg + rm -f $MINDI_LIB/syslinux.cfg Best Regards, Alexander -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#604925: /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2: cannot login to ssh after upgrade from lenny to squeeze
Package: libgssapi-krb5-2 Version: 1.8.3+dfsg-2 Severity: grave File: /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2 My system uses kerberos to authenticate users to ssh. After upgrading a server to squeeze logging in is no longer possible (this could satisfy critical severity). Unfortunately debugging this turned out to be harder than expected, because gssapi is not very precise about what the problem really is. All I can do is post the logs. Logging in from a (lenny) client that could log in to the same system before the upgrade: $ ssh -vvv somemachine ... debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic,password debug3: start over, passed a different list publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic,password debug3: preferred gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic,gssapi,publickey,keyboard-interactive,password debug3: authmethod_lookup gssapi-keyex debug3: remaining preferred: gssapi-with-mic,gssapi,publickey,keyboard-interactive,password debug3: authmethod_is_enabled gssapi-keyex debug1: Next authentication method: gssapi-keyex debug1: No valid Key exchange context debug2: we did not send a packet, disable method debug3: authmethod_lookup gssapi-with-mic debug3: remaining preferred: gssapi,publickey,keyboard-interactive,password debug3: authmethod_is_enabled gssapi-with-mic debug1: Next authentication method: gssapi-with-mic debug2: we sent a gssapi-with-mic packet, wait for reply debug1: Delegating credentials debug1: Delegating credentials debug1: Unspecified GSS failure. Great... but dpkg-buildpackage will not impose them. If you want to help, please implement support of the "Build-Features: build-arch" field that will tell dpkg-buildpackage that it can rely on build-arch/indep. Bug#591974: Looks like we should drop libmojomojo-perl for squeeze
Hi, We've spoken to the upstream maintainers, who say that removing the offending swfupload parts should be okay. I'll spend some time (hopefully tonight) repacking to remove those parts. My only concern was that swfupload should be made available in non-free prior to the removal of those parts from libmojomojo-perl, and the RFP for swfupload is still outstanding. I'm not sure how to best proceed. I can certainly remove the swfupload stuff from libmojomojo-perl, which will close that RC bug, but it opens another wishlist bug since it's not possible to easily install the "full" libmojomojo-perl as per upstream (i.e. MojoMojo + swfupload). See: http://lists.debian.org/debian-wnpp/2010/11/msg00070.html (RFP #602253) Your advice would be greatly appreciated. The R410 BIOS has a CPU menu with (among other options): - Logical Processor: this is 'HT', default is enabled, I have disabled it. - Virtualization Technology: default is disabled. Kept disabled. - Number of Cores per Processor: default is 'All'. Options are single/dual/all. Kept 'all' defalut. I just tried to boot Xen 4.0 hypervisor after reverting to the factory default 'HT enabled' (aka Logical Processor: Yes), same bug. Then I swithed off HT again, and enabled 'Virtualization Technology' (setting which I totally overlooked, but why is it disabled as default ?).
