Bug#547130: wireshark: General update after the debconf review process

2009-10-07 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, August 30, 2009, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for wireshark.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Sunday, August 30, 2009. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Dumpcap can be installed with the set-user-id bit set, so members of
- group wireshark will be able to run it with the permissions of the
- 'root' user. It is the preferred way of capturing packets using
- Wireshark/Tshark over running Wireshark/Tshark as root, because that
- way most of the code will run with less priveges.

+ This way of capturing packets using Wireshark/Tshark is recommended

  .
Enabling this feature may be a security risk, so it is disabled by
- default. If in doubt, it is suggested to leave it disabled.

Bug#549952: actually, debmirror ignores both "dists" and "dist" in ~/.debmirror.conf

Hmmm. I see what happened. I needed to distinguish between "requested"
dists and "corrected" dists for the codename/suite support and renamed the
variable that is set by the user from @dists to @rdists. But that does
indeed break the configuration file.

I'll see how I can solve that. I'll probably change things so that using
@dists in the configuration file will work again. But for the current
version you have to set @rdists.

Thanks,
FJP

Bug#549904: nbd-client: md raid1 hangs over nbd device if nbd-server is dead

What do you mean by 'the device disappears'? The device node will not go
away; do you just mean to say that the connection is lost?

-persist will indeed not help in getting the RAID device to move to
degraded mode -- on the contrary; the idea of -persist is that the NBD
kernel module will suspend reads from or writes to the device until the
connection has reappeared. I'm not sure whether this has already been
implemented as such in 2.6.26, but in any case you should not try it.

The timeout option should, however, get the RAID device to work after
the specified timeout. I'm not sure why it isn't working.

What happens if you wait "timeout" seconds and try to read from the
device manually (e.g., by doing "dd if=/dev/nbd0 of=/dev/zero count=1")?

Bug#550032: ttyS0 device not created with latest udev

2009-10-07 Thread Michael Guntsche
Package: udev
Version: 146-4
Severity: normal

I have a system two serial devices where /dev/ttyS0 is connected to a
headless remote machine. After I recently upgraded the kernel to
2.6.31.2 and after reboot I noticed that /dev/ttyS0 was no longer
created while /dev/ttyS1 was. At first I thought that this was kernel
related and booted back to 2.6.31. But here the node was not created
either.
Looking at the events with udevadm monitor I saw the following.

UDEV [1254898451.947402] add /module/8250_pnp (module)
UDEV [1254898451.951722] add /devices/pnp0/00:05/tty/ttyS0 (tty)
UDEV [1254898451.951781] remove
/devices/platform/serial8250/tty/ttyS0 (tty)
UDEV [1254898451.956936] remove
/devices/platform/serial8250/tty/ttyS1 (tty)
UDEV [1254898451.957526] add /devices/pnp0/00:06/tty/ttyS1 (tty)
UDEV [1254898451.957934] add /bus/pnp/drivers/serial (drivers)

So udev notices that both serial devices are available (tested with rmmod
8250_pnp;modprobe 8250_pnp) But only ttyS1 is available. I am not sure
if it is normal that there is an add;remove;remove;add sequence but as I
said before I had 2.6.31 running for a long time and never had any problems.

Bug#488258: lxml documentation

2009-10-07 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Heyho!

Is somebody working on #488258 (python-lxml doesn't include documentation)?

Matthias: would you accept and upload a patch if I would prepare one?

I've been browsing the included text files, but it's a bit a pain, and there
are references to the auto-built api docs which isn't available (ok, I could
go read the docstrings, but again, it's a PITA.)

(I work offline a lot, included documentation is pretty much essential when
the web is not available...)

cheers

hey Jonas

maybe you can give the experimental cryptsetup
1.1.0 package a try and report back whether that fixes the problem for
you, or whether the bug still is reproducible with this new version.

ok, I'll compile and install cryptsetup-1.1.0-rc2 from
http://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup/ this weekend if I can.

btw, i already use the packages in production setup, but it hasn't see
wide testing yet. thus i would be interested in any issues you discover.

mine is not a a production setup. Just a home computer for a single user, me. I'll have
to double-check my backups before installing "experimental" code.

I think you are more likely to find people who are knowledgeable about
these things on the Xen mailing lists (e.g. xen-user in the first
instance) rather than in the Debian BTS so I recommend you pursue this
upstream. I vaguely recall some difference in timekeeping mechanisms
between the pvops vs old-style kernels but I don't know the details.

Bug#549910: debian-policy: Specify requirement in terms of upgradeability, interface stability

2009-10-07 Thread Giacomo A. Catenazzi

Raphaël Hertzog wrote:

Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.8.3.0
Severity: wishlist

We have some unwritten packaging rules and it would be good to write them
down even if some of them appear to be obvious to most of us. I think in
particular to stuff like:

- a package must at least be upgradable from one stable release to the next:
  - transitional packages are required when the software is renamed
  - {pre, post}{inst,rm} snippets dealing with upgrade issues must be kept
for at least one release (but it's better to keep them for 2-3
releases)

I agree

- a package must provide some interface stability (names of programs,
ABI/API of libraries, location of data files, etc.) when other packages
depend on it. In that case, any change must be coordinated and
appropriate dependencies must be added. It should give examples of
Breaks:, bumped Depends when an change is made in a non-backwards
compatible way, temporary compatibility symlinks, etc.

I find difficult to implement it in policy in a clear way. We already have
nearly the same requirement for ABI/API in libraries: the package name must
contain the SOVERSION.
If we add such requirement, I would change chapter 8 from
"Shared libraries" into "Shared libraries and common files" and adding
a general stability suggestion.

BTW I find no reference in policy about the NEWS.Debian file. It would
nice to require to document (at last for one stable release) all (also
user visibe API/ABI) incompatibilities in such files.

ciao

you have used that for filing the bug.

Please also provide the output of ldd -r /usr/bin/kmahjongg and ldd -r

Bug#550036: jack-audio-connection-kit: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review

2009-10-07 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: jack-audio-connection-kit
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Sunday, July 26, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for jack-audio-connection-kit.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading jack-audio-connection-kit with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Saturday, October 10, 2009, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Thursday, October 22, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Friday, October 23, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Oh really? Have you looked at [0] ?

kfreebsd-* are official Debian archs now. So either please try to fix
them (i.e. get the attention of the porters) or please make sure it does
not build on those two. Afaik those tools should just depend on POSIX so
they should (in theory) work also on Solaris for instance. In practise
the program might depend too much on linux due the tracing infrastucture
or the syscall hack.

Do not use testing on a desktop. It is not meant to be used, and it is
expected that such things happen.

Only stable and unstable are actually meant to be used.

Indeed. There ought to be no dependency of boost-dev on
boost-python-dev, but such a dependency was inadvertently
introduced (#548503). I added the package dependency
as a workaround for the build failures.

Recently, Sune Vuorela provided a cleaner fix for the
problem (#550006) which I'll likely adopt and that
will fix this bug as well.

Bug#545763: Squeeze upgrade

2009-10-07 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Hi,

the bug-fixed version of nautilus will be in testing soon. You can
check the status of the package here:

nautilus itself is old enough to migrate into testing, however some of
its dependencies are still too young, so you have to wait some
time. Packages from unstable always migrate into testing after 10 days
unless there aren't any issues that keeps them from migration like
bugs and stuff.

Besides I don't see any reason for not using testing. Debian testing
can be considered as stable when comparing other distros. Debian
stable is rather "rock"-stable ;).

Bug#542112: shishi-kdc: Incorrect runlevels in init.d scripts header

2009-10-07 Thread Simon Josefsson
I have uploaded the package now but I received a lintian warning during
dput (see below). I mistakenly only ran lintian on the source package
before the upload...

I suppose fixing this is as easy as replacing

# Provides: shishid

with

# Provides: shishi-kdc

in /etc/init.d/shishi-kdc but I'm not sure about backwards
compatibility. What if some service depends on the "shishid" service
(not likely but maybe possible?). Is this possible:

# Provides: shishi-kdc shishid

Even if it is possible, and we'd use it, I wonder when it would be safe
to remove the 'shishid' part. Keeping 'shishid' in the Provides: may
result in people starting to use it. So maybe it is simpler to just
change 'shishid' to 'shishi-kdc' and deal with any breakage separately
now rather than later.

I don't think there is any service that would depend on the 'shishid'
service being started?

Bug#549963: need to start after hal

2009-10-07 Thread Ludovic Rousseau

Simon Josefsson a écrit :

Package: pcscd
Version: 1.5.5-1

I installed pcscd and it created a symlink /etc/rc2.d/S20pcscd. However
on my system hal is started as S24:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2007-12-12 21:37 /etc/rc2.d/S24hal -> ../init.d/hal

I have no memory of changing the runlevel for hal, so I assume it is the
default? Or was, when I installed my laptop.

Because hal is not started, pcscd has problems starting:

Oct  6 19:41:15 mocca pcscd: hotplug_libhal.c:562:HPRegisterForHotplugEvents()
Could not initialise connection to hald.
Oct  6 19:41:16 mocca pcscd: hotplug_libhal.c:563:HPRegisterForHotplugEvents()
Normally this means the HAL daemon (hald) is not running or not ready.
Oct 6 19:41:16 mocca pcscd: pcscdaemon.c:531:main() SVCServiceRunLoop returned

And the daemon dies.

Moving pcscd from run-level 20 to 30 makes everything work.

I tried to remove and purge the pcscd package and reinstall it and the
runlevel is 50 as expected.

Can you do:

$ apt-get remove --purge pcscd

check that /etc/rc2.d/ does NOT have a *pcscd file anymore

$ apt-get install pcscd

And send me the result of:
$ ls /etc/rc*/*pcscd

Thanks

  * data/qnapi.desktop:
- change "Comment" and "GenericName" to english instead

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

The qnapi-download.desktop file may need this fix as well, but
my polish is not good enough to translate it myself.

There is no package in debian depending on the existing provides,

Yes, this is possible.

I agree that this is a better approach, given that no one depend on
that script at the moment.

Happy hacking,

That makes sense! But I built the zaptel module package with m-a - is
there a way to prevent m-a from cleaning the module directory after
building the package?

Thats bad. For me it is always reproducible.

And yes, I know that the information is not so useful, but this is what
the KDE crash-Handler want to be sent.

Just open the collection and type one character in the filter field.
Thats all.

I know why they are not useful. But I don't feel like compiling the
whole KDE stuff just to get debugging symbols.

However, The page tells that there should be debugging packages
available for debian system. But I cannot find the debugging package for
Tellico.

Sorry, I mean disappearing from /proc/partitions.

> device manually (e.g., by doing "dd if=/dev/nbd0 of=/dev/zero count=1")?

The nbd-client dies, and the partition is no longer in /proc/partitions.

# dd if=/dev/nbd0 of=/dev/zero count=1
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes (0 B) copied, 3.9789e-05 s, 0.0 kB/s

dd on a never used /dev/nbd* device reports the same.

Yeah. There is no way the server side can know what domain the user wants other
then the one in the JID. As the client puts that in it's stream opening. So the
only correct way is to always use the domain part of the jid when doing TLS,
regardless of how the actually address to connect to was determined.

I've been browsing the included text files, but it's a bit a pain, and there

Bug#522689: screen: GNU/kFreeBSD fix breaks GNU/Hurd

2009-10-07 Thread Thomas Schwinge
unarchive 522689
reopen 522689
stop

Hello!

Unfortunately, the fix you installed for GNU/kFreeBSD now makes the
originally reported erroneous behavior (screen not passing signals)
appear on GNU/Hurd systems.

This is due to changing what was:

# if defined(__osf__) || (BSD >= 199103) || defined(ISC)
  if (separate_sids)
setsid(); /* should be already done */
#  ifdef TIOCSCTTY
  ioctl(fd, TIOCSCTTY, (char *)0);
#  endif
# endif

... to...

# if defined(__FreeBSD_kernel__) && defined(TIOCSCTTY)
  ioctl(fd, TIOCSCTTY, (char *)0);
# endif

... which causes that the TIOCSCTTY IOCTL will no longer be invoked for
us. (By the way, I can confirm that the setsid() indeed doesn't seem to
be needed at this place.)

Possible solutions: restore the original #if conditions -- what was the
reason for changing these in the first place? This information is
missing in the bug report, as well as in the screen patch. Doesn't
GNU/kFreeBSD #define BSD >= 199103?  (I don't have access to (k)(Free)BSD
system, so I can't easily check.) Otherwise, you could add ``||
defined(__GNU__)'' to cater for us (TIOCSCTTY is always #defined)
(supported by Samuel Thibault in
). Or,
as per Roland McGrath (glibc), you could even unconditionally invoke the
TIOCSCTTY IOCTL (if available):
. If
you want to have a look for yourself on a Debian GNU/Hurd system, see
here: .

Regards,
 Thomas

Bug#545736: missing gobject thread_init

2009-10-07 Thread Alexandre Rossi
The problem came from the fact that I was not calling
gobject.threads_init() at all.

So I guess this is not a bug.

I can be closed, thanks.

Bug#550042: XScreensaver has hooks in Xsession

2009-10-07 Thread Allan Sandfeld Jensen
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.10-2

XScreenSaver has an entry in /etc/X11/Xsession.d that starts it automatically.
This entry has to go.

The problem is that xscreensaver should not start automatical. Many desktop-
environments has wrappers around xscreensaver. When xscreensaver starts by
itself it no longer respects any user settings which are currently set in the
desktop environment.

Solution is simple: Remove /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80xscreensaver_start

Bug#548874: [Python-modules-team] Bug#548874: Bug#548874: matplotlib: figure() call fails. GTK seems not to recognise filetype of a .svg file

I tried to replicate this problem in a clean chroot and only maplotlib
installed (and its dependencies of course) but the svg file is
generated correctly *without* any svg library installed.

The code I used is:

import matplotlib as mpl
mpl.use('SVG')
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.figure()
plt.plot([1,2])
plt.savefig('test.svg')

the mpl version is:

python -c "import matplotlib as mpl ; print mpl.__version__"
0.99.0

and the suggested lib is not installed (attached the list of packages
installed on the chroot):

dpkg -l librsvg2-common | tail -1
un librsvg2-common (no description
available)

So I'm unsure it's a bug at all: maybe something else broken in your system?

Regards,

Works here.

Actually /usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4 does exist as a symlink to
/usr/share/doc/libgtkmm-2.4-doc:

$ dpkg -L libgtkmm-2.4-doc|grep "/usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4"
/usr/share/doc/gtkmm-2.4

Please try reinstall and test again. Thanks.

So all is working as it should. Hm. I tried to install an older lenny
version and then upgrade, but that also worked. So I don't really know
why my system had a S20pcscd symlink.

Sorry about the noise, I think the bug can be closed...

Bug#550043: samba: Windows 7 the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

2009-10-07 Thread Robin Edgar
Package: samba
Version: 2:3.2.5-4lenny6
Severity: important

When adding a Windows 7 machine to a Samba PDC, using the following registry
entries the machine account is created in /etc/passwd and in the samba database
(pdbedit -L finds it, with a password):

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Netlogon\Parameters
DWORD RequireSignOnSeal = 0
DWORD RequireStrongKey = 0

The Windows 7 PC gives a DNS extension error, but joins the domain succesfully.
After reboot of the PC, you have to wait a bit before the domain controller can
be found to validate the password, but then comes up with the following error:

"the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

and won't allow a logon.

The PC event viewer gives the following System -> Netlogon error:

This computer could not authenticate with \\DOMAIN, a Windows domain controller
for domain DOMAIN, and therefore this computer might deny logon requests. This
inability to authenticate might be caused by another computer on the same
network using the same name or the password for this computer account is not
recognized. If this message appears again, contact your system administrator.

Good -- I have made the change in CVS. I don't think this change is
critical, though, so I'll try to get a new release of Shishi out before
doing another upload. There are some things in the actual code that I
want to fix before squeeze...

Bug#495107: bugzilla3: initial installation has problems with skins

2009-10-07 Thread Marcus Better
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

reopen 495107
found 495107 3.2.4.0-3

The proposed solution is not enough if you try to install Bugzilla in
another URL than /bugzilla3, which is probably very common. For example
I have created an alias for "/bugzilla" instead, but the links to the
skin css files all point to "/bugzilla3".

I have the correct urlbase in /etc/bugzilla3/params, so it should be
able to create correct links.

Cheers,

Marcus

Bug#550045: bugzilla3: configuration editing broken due to lack of write permissions

2009-10-07 Thread Marcus Better
Package: bugzilla3
Version: 3.2.4.0-3
Severity: normal

The editparams.cgi page fails to save configuration changes. The
www-data user appears to lack write permission to
/etc/bugzilla3/params (I think, maybe I've changed this locally), but it also
tries to create a temporary file in /etc/bugzilla3 where it does not have write
perms:

Error in tempfile() using /etc/bugzilla3/params.X: Parent directory
(/etc/bugzilla3/) is not writable
 at /usr/share/perl5/Bugzilla/Config.pm line 273

Probably it should be given write permissions to the params file, and
Bugzilla should be patched to create temporary files elsewhere (in
/var/lib/bugzilla3/data for instance).

POSIX:2008 defines a getline function, so latex-sanskrit fails to build
with recent (e)glibc because it defines its own. This patch renames the
function to get_line.

Bug#550050: svn-buildpackage: Please add svn-pdebuild

2009-10-07 Thread Bertrand Marc
Package: svn-buildpackage

Hi,

Using svn-buildpackage with pbuilder is not always great, and I think it would
help to add a svn-pdebuild script as described here:
http://wiki.debian.org/Games/VCS/svn#Tobuildusingpbuilder

Maybe in the manner of the git-pbuilder found in git-buildpackage, or even
better directly in /usr/bin.

Bertrand

Bug#550054: gnome-applets: klicking buttons in sticky notes applet does nothing

2009-10-07 Thread Thomas Hager
Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.26.3-2
Severity: normal

hi,

i recently updated to my system and am running gnome-applets 2.26.3-2
now.

the problem i'm facing is that the sticky-notes applet won't react to
button presses anymore.

how to reproduce:

- open preferences dialog (right click on notes applet -> Preferences)
- click the "Close" or the "Help" button and nothing happens

or:

- try to delete an existing note (right click on note -> Delete Note...)
- click the "Cancel" or "Delete" button and nothing happens

Bug#550055: bugzilla3: checksetup.pl gives incorrect intallation instructions for some optional packages

2009-10-07 Thread Marcus Better
Package: bugzilla3
Version: 3.2.4.0-3
Severity: normal

I ran checksetup.pl and got the following suggestions for installing
additional Perl modules:

  Chart: apt-get install libchart-perl
Template-GD: dh-make-perl --install --cpan Template::Plugin::GD::Image
PatchReader: dh-make-perl --install --cpan PatchReader
 PerlMagick: apt-get install perlmagic

Email::MIME::Attachment::Stripper
Email-Reply: dh-make-perl --install --cpan Email::Reply
   mod_perl: apt-get install libapache2-mod-perl2

The PerlMagick line is wrong (should be "perlmagick", not "perlmagic").

Both Authen::SASL and Auth::Radius are in Debian (libauthen-sasl-perl
and libauth-radius-perl, the former should be a Suggests).

Bug#465331:

2009-10-07 Thread Martijn van Iersel
Well, I did create a working package for cytoscape 2.6.2, but I found
out it would be too hard for me to get it up to debian standards. Some
java libraries included with Cytoscape already exist as independent
packages. Some will need to get packaged separately. Cytoscape also
includes some proprietary code from yFiles that will create problems.

Moreover, I found out that Cytoscape 3.0 will switch to maven, so a lot
of work will have to be redone.

If somebody wants to take over, I can send you what I have up til now,
which isn't much.

regards,
Martijn

Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.10-2

XScreenSaver has an entry in /etc/X11/Xsession.d that starts it automatically.
This entry has to go.

The problem is that xscreensaver should not start automatical. Many desktop-
environments has wrappers around xscreensaver. When xscreensaver starts by
itself it no longer respects any user settings which are currently set in the
desktop environment.

Solution is simple: Remove /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80xscreensaver_start

you don't have to compile it on your own. just install the package from
http://people.debian.org/~mejo/cryptsetup/

i just uploaded i386 packages as well.

yes, backups are important. but in case anything breaks, the following
should restore old system:

- boot from rescue disk, luksOpen your root device
- mount the root filesystem
- chroot into root filesystem
- install cryptsetup from debian/unstable

i recommend to store the cryptsetup package from unstable somewhere on
the root filesystem to have it available in emergency cases.

but as already mentioned, i tested the packages both in production and
test setups, thus i don't expect anything to break for you.

 jonas

Bug#550059: jinja2: circular build depends between jinja2 and sphinx

2009-10-07 Thread LI Daobing
Package: src:jinja2
Severity: important

Hello,

jinja2 build depends on python-sphinx, and shpinx build depends on
python-jinja2, this circular dependency make some build daemon confused
(such as ppa on launchpad) and failed to build.

for example, if you want backport newest jinja2 and sphinx to hardy, and
ppa will build failed on these two packages.

suggestion:

fork jinja2 to two source packages, one is "jinja2", another is
"jinja2-doc", jinja2 does not build the doc package, so no longer build
depends on python-sphinx. and jinja2-doc only build the doc package. so
circular build dpeneds is broken.

Bug#550060: wdm: Incorrect dependencies in init.d script

2009-10-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: wdm
Version: 1.28-2.4
Severity: important
User: initscripts-ng-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: incorrect-dependency

I got a report from a Debian user about problems with wdm with
dependency based boot sequencing, and had a look. The init.d/wdm
dependency information look like this:

  ### BEGIN INIT INFO
  # Provides: wdm
  # Required-Start:$remote_fs
  # Required-Stop: $remote_fs
  # Should-Start: console-screen
  # Should-Stop: console-screen
  # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
  # Default-Stop: 0 1 6
  # Short-Description: start or stop the WINGs display manager
  ### END INIT INFO

This will make it start very early in the boot. The report indicated
that X now need dbus and hal, and the gdm init.d script depend on
acpid and network-manager as well. If wdm need the same dependencies,
I recommend changing the should-start line to look like this:

  # Should-Start: console-screen kbd acpid dbus hal network-manager

This will move the init.d script further back in the boot sequence,
and might increase the chance of wdm starting as it should during
boot. It will also solve bug #548105. I do not really know the
requirement fo wdm, so I hope you as the maintainer can review this
list and adjust it to better fit the need of wdm.

Bug#550063: libiodbc2: iodbcinst/unicode.h checks HAVE_* but doesn't include anything that might define them

2009-10-07 Thread Colin Watson
Package: libiodbc2

iodbcinst/unicode.h checks HAVE_* but doesn't include anything that
might define them. This caused a build failure on Ubuntu, although I
doubt it's intrinsically Ubuntu-specific (might not actually occur on
Debian right now depending on exactly how libc headers are arranged).
See:

Bug#550062: aptitude-gtk: Fails to install: update-apt-xapian-index not found

2009-10-07 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: aptitude-gtk
Version: 0.5.9rc2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Fails to install

Hi,

apt-xapian-index is only in Recommends, so you probably want to tweak
the postinst to call update-apt-xapian-index conditionally.

Mraw,
KiBi.

Bug#544314: Misconfigured email addresses in my bugreports

2009-10-07 Thread Friedrich Delgado Friedrichs
Sorry,

I have misconfigured some part of my mail system so that I sent
several mails relating to bugs from the mail address
frie...@taupan.ath.cx, which is invalid (there's no mx record for that
host).

The correct address is frie...@nomaden.org and should hopefully be
correct in the header and envelope of this mail.

I'm going to try find the cause of the misconfiguration now.

Kind regards

Bug#550065: librcc: pointless strnlen redeclaration

2009-10-07 Thread Colin Watson
Package: librcc
Version: 0.2.8-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch karmic

src/rccstring.h has this code:

  #ifdef HAVE_STRNLEN
  # ifndef strnlen
  int strnlen(const char *str, size_t size);
  # endif /* !strnlen */

This is pointless and incorrect. configure has already detected that
strnlen is present, so it must be either a function or a macro, and this
declaration is only used if it's a function. In that case, this may fail
if the system header declaration is even slightly different, and if it's
the same, then why redeclare it?

This caused a build failure on Ubuntu. If it doesn't fail to build on
Debian yet, then it's probably only because Ubuntu is using a slightly
newer eglibc, but it would still be worth fixing pre-emptively in
Debian.

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32052981/buildlog_ubuntu-karmic-i386.librcc_0.2.8-2_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

The following patch fixes this:

  * Don't pointlessly redefine strnlen in rccstring.h; it just causes build
failures if strnlen isn't a macro.

Comments/Problems:

The problem was with installing the additional software. The wiki says
there are three options for the desktop. Task, KDE, KDE-core. I wanted
KDE. I didn't want some of the things that are included in Task. The
only option was either install Desktop or not. The first time I had to
interrupt the installation (ctl-alt-del) and start over. The second time
when I could find no way to select KDE only I had to not install Desktop
and do it all manually afterward. I've never used aptitude before and
it's not exactly newuser friendly. I had to dig to find out what things
meant, some I never did figure out and just went ahead anyway. Installing
the desktop that way, nothing was configured and I had to grab a copy of
xorg.conf from the backup just to get xorg to sync with the monitor.

Note: I chose graphical expert installation. One would have thought that
installation options would have been more refined than all or nothing.

While I haven't checked yet on this installation, an OpenSUSE that I
recently installed on this same machine (and removed) one version of
the kernel was installed but a different version of the kernel source.
Why not have the correct source for the kernel that's on the CD and
either install it when installing the system or give the option to?

Want to try something radical? Install FreeBSD sometime. There's
no trying to figure out what basic options to install for users,
developers, kernel developers, X or no X, it's right there on a
menu. Want the all sources, headers (kernel too) and X? Select
that from the menu and not worry about it later when you need it.
Need to pick and choose or eliminate something from the list? No
problem, it's on the menu.

You folks need to remember, in most cases when someone's installing
the OS, they don't have a web browser available - that won't happen
until they get the OS installed! It's not an option to go to the
website to look something up.

Bug#550067: emesene: Bug sendding offline message

2009-10-07 Thread Saulo Soares de Toledo
Package: emesene
Version: 1.5-2
Severity: important

Emesene don't send offline messages until it detects the other user is
offline. TO understood the bug:

- Open 2 messenger accounts (online status)
- Send a messenger from one to another from Emesene
- Go to another account and put "Appear offline"
- Back to Emesene and send a message to that contact, if this message appear
first than Emesene detects the other account is offline, the message never
appear to the other contact

Than, Emesene needs check if his contact it's offline or not to send the
message, or some messages will be lost.

Hi, upstream suggest a different upstart integration
 http://smarden.org/runit/useinit.html#upstart

Important is that runsvdir is started in a clean, consistent, and
reproducible process state, I'm not sure that's guaranteed by the patch
from ubuntu.

Bug#550069: kde: Eratic behavior of arrow key in file selector

2009-10-07 Thread Bruno
Package: kde
Version: 3.5.10
Severity: important

KDE reports 3.5.10, but it seems it's a mix 3.5.9/3.5.10, as synaptic rather
reports 3.5.9. Here is the description:

Keyboard navigation with arrow keys into the KDE file selector follows a pretty
strange algorithm. "Up" and "Down" keys do sometimes select the "Previous" and
"Next" file in the list, but sometimes skip some of them and jumps directely
a few files before or after. This looks like bug #456933 reported for
konqueror.

The next/previous algorithm seems to be related to the length of the filenames.
Create a directory with the following files:
  a
  b1234
  c
  d123
  e
  f1
  g1234
  h12345678901
  i1234
  j12345678901
  z

then within kate invoke "Open file", and navigate with keyboard into the file
list portion, starting with file "a". If you press "Down" again and again,
you'll get:
  a > c > d > e > f > g > i > j > z
"b" and "h" are skipped, which are sensibly longer than "a" and "g". But "j" is
not, suprisingly.

Once at "z", press "Up" again and again, you'll get:
  z < i < g < f < e < d < c < a
Here, "j", "h" and "b" are skipped.

Note that changing the font to fixed/monospace does not change anything, though
I suspected it would.

Well, I'd be really interested in knowing the development process that lead
to such a strange behavior. That's really puzzling.

Yours for more information.

Bruno

With this package grub is not automatically installed.

Running grub-install manually installs a grub.efi image that cannot read

Hi, I don't see why this should be done, there were no essential changes
in the runsvdir program, and if not killed, it should simply continue
doing its work properly. What do you mean by 'can not add new
services'?

Regards, Gerrit.

Bug#550076: Fwd: Cause of error in syslog-ng.conf not comprehensible

2009-10-07 Thread Vincent LOUPIEN
Package: syslog-ng
Version: 2.0.9-4.1

Since i upgraded my syslog-ng service version 2.0.0-1etch1 to 2.0.9-4.1
(Lenny), my log refer to each reload of the service, error messages under the
form "syslog-ng[]: Internal error, duplicate configuration elements refer to
the same persistent config; name='affile_dd_writers(/var/log/hosts/$HOST.log)'".

I can not find the source of the error in my conf, especially since I have not
changed anything in it. Conf tests with "syslog-ng-sv" do not return any
error and i searched in the doc of Syslog-NG (balabit.com), with google and
various other forums. This same behavior occurs on each of my servers (x3)
using syslog-ng.

Do you have an idea or it may come ? your help will be very useful.

I follow to you the conf syslog-ng (syslog-ng.conf) one of my servers.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, kernel 2.6.26-2-686 and libc6 2.7-18.

Hi,

Upstream did not release the latest versions in sourceforge for some
reason, although the CVS repository there seems to be somewhat active.

I added the patch to the new debian revision at git.debian.org, but
also disabled the watch file for now, to prevent false alarms. Also,
the location of the upstream sources is now correct in the copyright
file.
