Could you

Makes sense. The version I found at Google Books also says "of" here.

Do you know whether the enlarged version is in the public domain now?
And if it can be found somewhere? I was not able to locate an online

Thus such essential info lack of which prevent completing main task of

The reason why I presume this is not the same as #534199, is that in
the /tmp/tetex.fmutil.* log file, the file doesn't stop at the "file
older than 5 years" message. The message is a warning, and the output
of pdfetex continues after it.

However, after digging through some directories in a debian mirror, I
got the texlive-base-bin_2005.dfsg.2-13_i386.deb file and I installed
it with "dpkg -i" (the output above is from before that). The install
worked, and latex seemed mostly working afterwards.

(I was trying to install texlive in the first place, because an
apt-get update had broken tetex, so that it had empty fonts or
something and produced mostly white pages when the dvi was translated
to pdf.)

Thanks for everyone's help.

I think this bug should be left open until the newer packages are
available through a normal apt-get.

--Rob

P.S. Why do you think Donald Knuth decided to warn himself against
processing files older than 5 years ? The old guy probably has many
of those, right ?

It crashes here[0] too, also with an "corrupted double-linked list"

need to be an audio CD, I can trigger it by adding files to a data DVD.

Since my backtrace looks almost like Jeroens, I won't post it here.

Well:
grub install "(md0)' leads to the same error message

grub-install /dev/sda then grun-install /dev/sdb leads to other
problems: the device naming is not consistant from one boot to another.
Sometimes I've md0 with /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 and sometimes with sdb1
and adc1 while they are the same phisycal disks.
So /boot/grub/device.map doesnt reflects always the real
(logcal) configuration of the system.
This can produce erroror.

Package: libapache2-mod-spamhaus
Version: 0.7-1

Problem: sbl.spamhaus.org (which I would like to use) has been
deprecated, one should use zen.spamhaus.org instead.

Unfortunately, I cannot use zen.spamhaus.org (or sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org)

Thanks for your bug report! Yes, I understand how this could be
a problem for you.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is exactly a bug :> It is more or
less the way that dante has been designed to work. As part of its
startup routine, the dante server tries to figure out some information
about the system's network configuration so that it can bind properly to
the addresses it wants, thus speeding up the actual forming of
connections later on when the clients request it. In this process, the
server tries to figure out the IP addresses of the interfaces it should
send out data on, and fails if it can't.

I realize that this is a bit inconvenient when interfaces come and go,
but changing it might require major changes in dante's mode of
operation. What you describe is not exactly a crash - it's more like
the server detects what it thinks is *incorrect* configuration, and it
refuses to start up with it :> Yes, I know that it is not "incorrect"
in your point of view - and you're sort of right, it's just that dante
doesn't work this way :)

Could you try to set things up so that the dante server starts when the
interface comes up, and stops when the interface comes down? Something
like "up invoke-rc.d --force dante-server start" and
"down invoke-rc.d --force dante-server stop" in /etc/network/interfaces,
and disabling the dante-server automatic start-up at runlevels 3, 4, 5?

G'luck,
Peter

More over, this is not specific form mdadm only. Recently I have

think it should be common requirement for installing grub to shift first

That's fine; it doesn't make the text unreadable, it's just slightly
annoying.

Bug#535891: RFP: disco -- Disco is a MapReduce implementation with jobs written in Python

2009-07-25 Thread Ville Tuulos
Hi,

I'm the upstream author of the Disco project and I'd be very happy to
see Disco included in Debian. We run Disco on some 100 Debian servers
currently, relying on a custom package repository. I know many people
who would benefit greatly from Disco being available in the official
Debian repository.

The current experimental Disco packages for Debian (lenny / squeeze)
can be found at

http://discoproject.org/debian/

which are generated from the debian-branch of the Disco Git repository
at http://github.com/tuulos/disco. I'm not an expert at Debian
packaging, so a proper Debian developer should have a critical look at
the scripts. I'm of course more than happy to help with any issues
related to the codebase.

Minor fix to the earlier message:

> Disco is a Java framework for building distributed, data-intensive
> applications modeled off of Google's MapReduce publication.

Disco is *not* a Java framework. It doesn't contain a single line of
Java code. It's mostly Python / Erlang / Javascript.

Best regards,

Ville Tuulos

Bug#507545: Patch for some of the init.d scripts

2009-07-25 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
tags 507545 + patch
thanks

I had a look at the handling of the leds-blinking init.d scripts after
discussing this with Joey Hess at debconf, and here is a proposal
rewriting the build system to use update-rc.d in a more traditional
way.

It installs two unique init.d scripts in each runlevel, one at the
start (leds-lvl#) and one at the end (zleds-stop-lvl#), taking care of
the blinking to be done during the runlevel. The leds_startup script
should no longer be needed, as a start script is used in the start of
each runlevel, and thus no trick is needed in the rcS.d -> rc#.d
transition.

I also added proposed LSB headers to the other init.d scripts, and
rewrite all scripts to use the argument passed into the script.

Please test to see if I made any mistakes.

Weird indeed. IIRC the problem consisted of two parts:

1. fmtutil failed if the "file older than 5 years" messages appeared
2. The format mllatex needs the scrollmode to generate the format
   successfully (this is #534199).

As you had the version, which should have the fix for 1. you should
only run in 2. . I'd expect that the generation of mllatex.fmt fails,
but I can't find this message in your log.

This is a warning from LaTeX, which was never written/maintained by
DEK. I guess the LaTeX team would like to prevent people from using
old versions of LaTeX and running in old old (long fixed) bugs.

I do not like the idea of allowing package maintainers to tweak packages to
improve their ranking.

What would be the point ? There is nearly zero correlation between the
time someone read the changelog and someone use a package, *especially*
for data-only packages.

Strange. That patch should only fix an uninitialised variable to fix the
segfault.
For me it works fine.
Seems like there is somewhere else a bug.
Maybe the output of grub-setup helps when you run grub-install --debug '(md0)'

This doestn't lucky matter. On RAID grub always reads the superblocks of

The bug is about a TCP port number, not manpage section number.

Upstream prepares that separated ccstools package for upstream kernel.
So, I'm waiting for that, and try to make new package, tomoyo-ccstools2

Could you please send me the output of

It should look somehow like

I suspect that you somehow fetched wordnet-base from unstable

I've missed something here. If the file is required to be part of the
installed package how can the maintainer abuse the stats to get more
votes than installed?

Or are you only referring to the 'recent' stats? I would think
maintainers have more reason to keep those accurate and know the speed
of upgrades than to fake and make recent==installed.

As it stands it's trivial for maintainers to add a cronjob to their
package and touch the binary every minute or so should they want to ruin
their stats.

If they use the proposed tag properly they can point it at a data file
and get realistic stats about how often its used. Right now we have a
situation where installed == nofiles == N% and recent == vote == 0 for a
lot of packages which no only contain files but _are_ used and upgraded
over time.

You could go through yourselves and alter popcon for each and every one
of those packages, or add a way for maintainers to quickly give you a
hand with the classification.

Or if that is not possile, defaulting to checking the changelog. (which
every package has right?)

What would be the point ? There is nearly zero correlation between the
time someone read the changelog and someone use a package, *especially*
for data-only packages.

I was thinking for installed ctime and updated mtime stats.
I agree atime for use is not available if such a fallback was needed.

Bug#538371: serendipity: page is sometimes (apparently randomly) blank

2009-07-25 Thread Colin Turner
Package: serendipity
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: normal

Recently my blog with serendipity started misbehaving in unusual ways:

1. Missing content

Sometimes the page is blank. Hitting refresh repeatedly will eventually bring
up the content.
Then nevigating around some more will often cause the problem to appear again,
even on a page that was visited in the same session.
This makes it hard for me to blame plugins entirely, though I have
experiemented with them to see if problems could come from them, unfortunately
some (3 IIRC) were recently upgraded and could be implicated, at least one
broke and has now been removed (GEHSI).

2. Prompts to download PHP scripts

Sometimes, especially in admin interface we get this (in Iceweasel)

You have chosen to open serendipity_admin.php which is a: PHP script

You can hit cancel repeatedly and then it sometimes works...

It's the sporadic nature of this which makes it hard to understand.

Thanks for your work on this package and please let me know what I can do to
help.

I don't have any problem with these incorrect timestamps. I just notice

If you think it is normal or it doesn't matter, simply close this bug.

Mm, yes, that's probable, although without that change it would
presumably have been getting garbage data from /etc/mtab anyway. (df
doesn't seem to fall back to /proc/mounts.)

Perhaps we should temporarily make /target/etc/mtab a symlink to
/proc/mounts while running tasksel? Eventually I believe the plan is to
do that in the regular system anyway, but until the rest of the world
catches up ...

Bug#526154: reopen this bug, it is not fixed in Lenny

2009-07-25 Thread Thomas Waldmann
I filed a "important" bug against the mod-wsgi 2.3-1 package in Lenny.

It just got closed with the hint that this is fixed in mod-wsgi 2.4.
But 2.4 is not in Lenny, so this is not fixed in Lenny, thus it should
not be closed.

I request to reopen this bug, raise its importance back to "important"
and fix it.

It is "important" because it likely breaks ALL python wsgi applications
that deal with some sort of "file upload" or similar stuff.

At MoinMoin development, we get problem reports all the time from Debian
users who use this broken package and have trouble with uploading
attachments. I am a bit tired of saying "oh well, you just have to
replace the broken package from Debian Lenny with something working,
like any other mod-wsgi version".

Personally, I use this package on the main moinmo.in site on Lenny since
some months, it works without problems:

Bug#538374: Illume keyboard should wait just a bit

2009-07-25 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: e17
Version: 0.16.999.061-2
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I trigger the Illume keyboard via matchbox-keyboard-im (not packaged
yet, but patch available at http://bugs.debian.org/538041). It works
mostly great. But sometime, e.g. when switching between applications,
the applications request the keyboard to hide and appear in very short
succession. Illume reacts immeditally, causing flicker and resizings in
the applications, which is irritiating.

I suggest that Illume, after receiving such a XEvent from an
application, would wait for a very short period of time (say, 50ms)
before actually acting. This way, when the opposite requests follows
right after it, the user will not notice.

Thanks,
Joachim

You have some interesting wishlist points, and I guess some of them
could be adressed in insserv (like reporting errors using debconf, and
log all changes). On the other hand, the dependency based boot
sequencing is working very well in Debian now, and I believe it is
safe to enable by default without any more changes.

Bug#538375: libdw-dev: Please provide a static libdw library

2009-07-25 Thread John Wright
Package: libdw-dev
Version: 0.141-2
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I'm working on getting makedumpfile ready to upload to Debian. The
upstream Makefile builds makedumpfile statically, so that it can be
easily included in an initramfs. The only library it needs that isn't
available statically now is libdw. I notice you removed the static
library in version 0.141-1; would it be possible to bring it back?

Thanks,

I uploaded stardict 3.0.1-6(added a pseudo binary package named stardic
to help users transition), but stardict package doesn't content any

So now this bug is pending for your stardict-dictionary package upload.

hi!

i discovered this one when trying to run the patch-tracker.debian.net code
on an updated sid system.

if a record in a Sources file has only a single checksum entry, it's returned
as a single dict object. if it has multiple entries, they are returned as
a list of dicts. for example, with an abbriviated Sources file like this:

cat << EOF > sourcesfile

and the following code:

slist = deb822.Sources.iter_paragraphs(file('sourcesfile'))
for ent in slist:
  print ent['Checksums-Sha1']

you get:

{'sha1': 'dd987a5ee85d8c4fc3e115f60a6a021e78c626dd', 'size': '13627', 'name':

and i would argue you should get:

'povray_3.7.0~beta29-1.diff.gz'}

which i believe was the previous behavior.

i should be able to code around this problem but it does seem to be
a regression.

Consistent bug; nothing suspect in X logs.
But wdm is same version I used in Etch, where I got no such problem, hence
I suspect this is an Xorg's general bug, not driver-specific.

have you tried to start screen in a small terminal (i.e. with < 10 rows)?
The bottom line reads "Press Space for next page or Return to end" then,
and in this context it is clear that "end" means the end of the copyright
preamble. I don't think this is too confusing.

Bug#538381: grub-pc: keystroke freezes grub2 at kernel selection menu

2009-07-25 Thread Bruce LaZerte
Subject: grub-pc: keystroke freezes grub2 at kernel selection menu
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20090721-4
Severity: important

Grub2 installs ok but the kernel menu chained from the V1 menu locks
up after a single keystroke. Pressing the down arrow causes the
selection to move down one, but no other keystrokes, like up arrow or
enter, will work. Similarly pressing c will put you into console mode
but the keyboard is locked. All I can do is turn off the computer.

However the keystrokes work fine in the menu V1, and the default
selected kernel in menu V2
boots fine as long I don't touch the keyboard.

This is an older Compaq Presario 2100 notebook.

openssh is compiled with -fPIC on mipsen, downgrading to the stable
version cures the system. Actually I planned to follow up after
compiling w/o -fPIC and testing installation to be sure to have found
the culprit, but since you are writing this, here's the current status:

it seems to be no kernel problem.

on their part on my gpg-signed mail since Jul 12) I might be
interested to help.

Well, the plans for the service program is to extend it to work with
both sysv-rc and upstart. I do not really believe it make sense to do
the same for chkconfig. Because of this, I believe it make most sense
for you to change the chkconfig package to drop the service command
and keep the chkconfig program in that package.

I assume you mean that chkconfig make less sense now with LSB headers
and insserv, as it need to change behaviour when enabling and
disabling services. Perhaps it should be using the service command as
its backend?

Happy hacking,

Binutils actually only trigger the bug, but it is actually a bug in
glibc which originates from a broken patch to fix a bug on alpha. Will
be fixed in the next upload.

Bug#538382: ekiga: uninstallable on i386, MU appears to have been built against unofficial ptlib packages

2009-07-25 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: ekiga
Version: 3.2.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package uninstallable

The maintainer (i386) upload of Ekiga depends on libpt2.6.4, but the first
official i386 binaries for libpt2.6.4 have not yet left the buildd that
produced them (which is bug #537320).

I can only conclude that the maintainer of Ekiga compiled the uploaded i386
binaries against packages other than those shipped by Debian. That does not
seem like a good thing for the stability of the distribution, to say the least
(and seems like a Policy §2.2.1 violation).

Please do not upload packages built against packages not supported by Debian,
unless you're going to upload the dependency packages yourself, before the
dependent package (i.e. making them official, by uploading them and taking
responsibility for that upload).

In the short term, this also makes ekiga uninstallable on i386.

Bug#538376: Acknowledgement (python-debian: debian_bundle parses some multilines fields inconsistantly)

2009-07-25 Thread sean finney
severity 538376 normal
thanks

okay i take back what i said about this being a regression, it seems that
in previous versions (< 0.1.10) it was treated as a plain text field (i.e.
no dictionary at all), which meant that the fields were probably ignored
entirely in the patch-tracker but are now partially showing up.

still a bug though afaict :)

No, that's intentional; you need both libapache2-mod-php5 and php5-cli.

Hi,

please remove ipmasq, I do not use the package anymore and it would need
substancial reworking (upstream wise, not packaging wise) for modern
environments, while at the same time there are other similar packages in
debian already.

Regards,

For some reason I didn't include the Galician translation in the
original round of translations. There is a typo in the untranslated
text (I've contacted the other already). Can you resubmit, retranslating
with the above line as:

Note that libdw1 contains a whole bunch of shared libraries which
can be dynamicly loaded, and you probably need atleast one of
them. Upstream does not provide them staticly.

I suggest you look at doing this with the shared version instead,
I don't see an advantage of doing it staticly.

Bug#538386: exim4-config: mention that semicolon-seperated lists of smarthosts are supported as well

2009-07-25 Thread Jonas Meurer
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.69-11
Severity: minor

Hello,

currently the exim4-config configuration facility gives the impression
that only one smarthost is allowed in dc_smarthost. That is wrong as
a (semi)colon-seperated list of smarthosts does work perfectly well.

this is particularly useful if you want to add fallback smarthosts for
the case that your default smarthost becomes unavailable.

the current description for smarthost is:

> Please enter the IP address or the host name of a mail server that this
> system should use as outgoing smarthost. If the smarthost only accepts your

i suggest to change this to something like:

Won't that have the /target prefix in it for some mounts and thus be
unusable inside a chroot?

Bug#538389: ITP: rfkill -- tool for enabling and disabling wireless devices

2009-07-25 Thread Darren Salt
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Darren Salt

* Package name: rfkill
  Version : 0.1-4-g9429740
Upstream Authors: Johannes Berg, Marcel Holtmann, Tim Gardner
* URL : http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/rfkill
* Licence : BSD-style single-clause
  Programming lang: C
Description : tool for enabling and disabling wireless devices

rfkill is a simple tool for accessing the Linux rfkill device interface,
which is used to enable and disable wireless networking devices, typically
 WLAN, Bluetooth and mobile broadband.
 .
rfkill uses /dev/rfkill, which is present in Linux kernel 2.6.31 and later.

I'm choosing a git snapshot over 0.1 because it contains some functionality
which will be of use in eeepc-acpi-scripts.

Sorry for the late response. There have been no sym53c500_cs specific
changes to the driver since 2.6.26, so the error very likely still
exists upstream, since there are no Debian-related patches.

Could you please file this upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org
and send the bugnumber to this bug log?

Cheers,
Moritz

Did appyling these patches fix the issue for you? Alternatively
you could just test 2.6.30 from unstable.

Bug#536926: Remove Farsight 1, stream-engine, Sugar 0.82, presence-service 0.82 from Debian?

Since Farsight 1 is obsolete, I think the best way to deal with this bug is
to remove the following source packages from Debian. I believe nothing else
depends on Farsight 1 any more.

* farsight (obsoleted by farsight2)
* telepathy-stream-engine (obsoleted by telepathy-farsight library)
* sugar-presence-service (v0.82, obsoleted by sugar-presence-service-0.84)
* sugar (v0.82, obsoleted by sugar-0.84)

All of the replacement packages are in testing already, so this wouldn't remove
anything important.

Jonas and other Sugar packagers: since sugar 0.82 and s-p-s 0.82 are your
packages, I'd like to check with you before I proceed. May I remove them?

Regards,
Simon

Looking at the commits for r8169.c, several look like they could've
fixed this. Could you try 2.6.30 from unstable?
