Bug#500983: acpi-support: resume from suspend to RAM unreliable on ThinkPad X61s

2008-10-03 Thread Anton Ekblad
Package: acpi-support
Version: 0.109-9
Severity: important

Laptop does not wake up from suspend to RAM reliably anymore but
freezes completely about one time in three. Worked fine before the

If such a subdirs.el is to be provided, it has to be in the
emacsen-common package, indeed. See #193575.

Apparently, that's the way to go.

[237558.971037] Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

I assume this is the same case as Tuomas' report, since the tails of the
backtraces and the location of the crash seem to match.

Just one note:
I *think* this started to happen after I added the box's primary network
interface to a bridge. The crash seems to happen randomly, from 6h of
uptime to 3 days, with only eth1 in the bridge (no veth devices).

The box runs 2-3 VEs with venet devices.

Apollon

Sorry for not looking into this earlier.

What exactly do you think the machine-parsable index would be needed
for? For packages.debian.org I guess it is enough if I make the
inclusion of a link dependent on the existance of a .diff file, right?

Bug#500984: [icedove] Can't cleanly share installation directory

2008-10-03 Thread Greg Kochanski
Package: icedove
Version: 2.0.0.16-1
Severity: wishlist

I have a network with 3 computers -- 1 Debian etch on P4, 1 Ubuntu on
P4, one Ubuntu on a AMD64.They share the .mozilla-thunderbird
directory. It's necessary to do this so that they share the
database that filters spam.I'm not about to train the program
three times!

Mostly it works well, except for an annoying pop-up on start-up.
Every time I change machines, it gives me the option to
decline add-ons like "en_GB" or "Xulrunner".
(Note that this isn't a locking problem --
I'm only logged onto one machine at a time.)

Obviously, what's going on is that somewhere within
.mozilla-thunderbird, it caches some state that is
processor-dependent (and/or distro-dependent).
So, when I change machine, it thinks "Aha! He must have upgraded
the software. I should ask..."

That information, whatever it is, should be stored in a
file whose name is derived from the name of the machine
(uname -n, for instance). And, those files need to
be managed so you don't get infinite numbers of them.
(I.e. delete the least-recently used files to make sure
there are never more than 20.)

I think that the value of the spam filter database in
icedove/thunderbird is high, so it's important that it
be cleanly shareable across several machines.
The simplest way to do that
is to make the entire .mozilla-thunderbird directory
shareable.

Bug#500985: segfaults with large interrupt numbers

2008-10-03 Thread Peter Palfrader
Package: irqbalance
Severity: important
Version: 0.12-7

irqbalance in etch segfaults when /proc/interrupts contains an interrupt
with a number higher than or equal to MAX_INTERRUPTS (256) due to a
missing array boundary check. At least it segfaults reliably on all my
hosts (say powell.d.o) that have a line starting in the 500s range.

The version from lenny/backports does not have this issue.

Hm, no nothing special. Setting the verbosity higher as the default

Thats not a great thing. You need to setup an export entry like you do
for NFSv4, however there is a fundamentel difference to NFSv3. You
export a NFSROOT not single exports. So you possibly want to setup a
virtual export directory. Its described here [1].

looks RC to me. If it's just a missing boundary check, please add it
and post the debdiff. (:

Each time I want to write a DVD on my external USB DVD writer (Plextor PX-716A)

Of course this isn't ideal, since now "high-number" interrupts are just
ignored, and not handled at all. But it's better than segfaulting. I
would still like to hear back from the old maintainer, Eric, or the new
maintainer, Kyle, tho.

Bug#500987: kjs: javascript RegExp doesn't work with

2008-10-03 Thread Thomas Wouters
Package: kdelibs5
Version: 4.1.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Sune says so

When you use kdelibs5-4.1.2-1 with a libpcre3 version lower than 7.7 there is a
regression with kjs.
With the kjs javascript debugger enabled you will see a parse error when
visiting e.g. http://www.regular-expressions.info/javascriptexample.html
If you upgrade libpcre3 to a version above, or equal to, 7.7 this parse error
doesn't show and the javascript works as expected.

I believe that this happens because kdelibs5-4.1.2-1 is built against
libpcre3-7.8-1 and kjs enables a certain feature for libpcre3 versions above
7.7:

kjs/regexp.cpp:148:#ifdef PCRE_JAVASCRIPT_COMPAT // introduced in PCRE 7.7
kjs/regexp.cpp-149-  options |= PCRE_JAVASCRIPT_COMPAT;
kjs/regexp.cpp-150-#endif

A possible solution would be to make kdelibs5 depend on >=libpcre3-7.7 as it
doesn't depend on a specific version right now.

On #khtml someone mentioned this:
[18:48:40] We should probably use pcre_feature_supported.
[18:49:17] Of course, that's really generally the case that if you
run against an older version of library you'll get problems.

Reaction on #debian-kde:
[09:39:56] he is usually right.
[09:40:44] please for now report a serious bug against kdelibs5 with
this info. If you are in doubt about justification, just say "Sune says so" ;)

The patch looks fine to me. I mean, the machines with higher interrupts
were crashing anyway, so simply chugging along ignoring them seems like
an improvement.

Bug#500988: "not a valid DEB package" error while it is a valid package

2008-10-03 Thread Michal Čihař
Package: apt-utils
Version: 0.7.14+b1
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/apt-extracttemplates
Tags: patch

Hi

apt-extracttemplates complains that deb is "not a valid DEB package"
while dpkg has no problem handling this particullar package. The problem
is caused by fact, that the package was manually created by GNU Ar,
which adds trailing / to file names (to allow spaces in names). This
situation is correctly handled by dpkg, but apt does not seem to handle
this.

Attached patch should fix this issue (it works with my test package).

Most likely this is the reason, so I'm reassigning this bug to the
elscreen package.

Since elscreen is no longer automatically loaded on startup (see
#268756), I suggest closing the bug. But that's up to the elscreen
maintainer (CC'ed).

Are you sure this bug really concern ocaml-core?

If you have something about __ocamlweb__ pulling half of the LaTeX
universe, you should fill a bug against ocamlweb, not ocaml-core!

I think this list is quite short and contains most of what is needed to
program using ocaml...

Of this I'm not sure as I'm not an ocamlweb user, I'll leave this to
the usual package maintainer to evaluate.

I assumed that you would need a machine-parsable index of all the
packages that have patches. I realise now that isn't the case.

The only reason I can think you would want the index is if you want to
differentiate between packages with just packaging added, packages with
changes outside debian/ and packages with patches in debian/patches/.

I guess so, yeah, all non-native packages seem to have a patch page.

Those packages where there to provide various tools that are expected
to be needed while programming in general. ocamlweb was there for
literate programming needs, but I do agree that nowadays it is
probably no longer needed, mainly because ocamldoc works properly now
(it didn't when ocamlweb was added to ocaml-core).

Regarding the other "half of these" please make names of what you
think is bloated and why you think so. A few comments of mine:

- ocamldsort: we can get rid of this, nowadays we have ocamlbuild
which is able to sort modules topologically by itself
- ounit: it is the only regression testing framework we have, we
  should keep it
- ledit: can be relaxed using alternatives over other line-editing
  tools available in debian
- cameleon: should stay, it is the only IDE we have (beside Emacs, but
I don't want to force users to use it)
- otags: should stay, especially because it provides system-wide tags
  for the standard library

Summarizing: what else do you want to be removed from ocaml-core?

Question open to suggestions: now that Recommends are installed by
default, should maybe all the Depends of ocaml-core be demoted to
Recommends?

Cheers.

Bug#500966: lists.debian.org: should sign outbound mail with DKIM

I don't think it's appropriate to sign relayed mails unless we have
verified some previous signature and even then it's questionable.

Kind regards

Bug#500210: perldoc perlrun spits out junk in synopsis

I see. The Perl internal encoding is UTF-8, but there are ways to get
invalid UTF-8 in there, for example by using :utf8 on binary input.
This invalid UTF-8 will then be output as-is with if :utf8 is set
on output.

I can't really think of a case where setting :encoding(utf-8) on output
does the right thing but :utf8 doesn't. It does turn the output into valid
UTF-8, but do you have an example where the content is not gibberish?

On the input side, :encoding(utf-8) is indeed probably the better
choice because it will croak when it encounters invalid bytes.

How about providing your own parse_from_file() wrapper in Pod::Man that
knows about the utf8 option, does the open() and then sets the binmode?
I don't think there's any need to touch the filehandles of people using
parse_file().

OK. I'll use this (with :encoding(utf-8)) for lenny if no further
showstoppers come up.

Yes, I think we should leave that alone at this point.

Bug#500990: libdb-dev: Dependency issues triggered by (full-)upgrade for libdb*-dev

2008-10-03 Thread David Ayers
Package: libdb-dev

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Upgrade the following packages:
libdb-dev [4.6.21-8 (now) -> 4.7.25.2 (testing)]

Score is 60

Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?]

It seems that a new libdb-dev package depending on 4.6.21-11 should be made
available at the same time as libdb4.6-dev is installed... or maybe the
correct solution would be to have libdb4.6-dev provide libdb-dev?

Yet I'm still confused wrt 4.7.25.2... if that would resolve the issue, why
doesn't a full-upgrade simply install it (as it seems it shouldn't affect
other packages)? But I suppose I'm missing something.

[I don't know much about packaging... I'm just trying to give clues.]

Bug#500991: multipath-tools: Multipath-tools uses invalid scsi_id option, breaks multipath

2008-10-03 Thread Rik Theys
Package: multipath-tools
Version: 0.4.8-12
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I've installed multipath-tools on lenny, but it fails to find any multipath
devices. I've run multipath -v3 and it gives the following error:

cciss!c0d0: getuid = /lib/udev/scsi_id -n -g -u -d /dev/%n (controller setting)
/lib/udev/scsi_id: invalid option -- n
error calling out /lib/udev/scsi_id -n -g -u -d /dev/cciss!c0d0

The -n option is not supported by /lib/udev/scsi_id.

Adding the getuid_callout option to the defaults section of /etc/multipath.conf
without the -n option does not seem to help. It seems the section is ignored?

The version of udev on this machine is 0.125-6.

According to the man page, the default command that is issued is
/lib/udev/scsi_id -g -u -d /dev/%n, without the -n option.

Regards,

Rik

Bug#500992: hylafax-server: hylafax and ELSA USB 56k: modem "crashes" remaining on-hook

2008-10-03 Thread Sebastian Niehaus
Package: hylafax-server
Version: 2:4.4.4-10
Severity: important

Since I switched from Etch to Lenny I cannot send faxes anymore using hylafax:
The modem "hangs": it remains on-hook but does not send any data. Stopping
hylafax does not make the modem to go on-hook. Faxes are not transmitted.

I use a ELSA USB 56k Modem
http://www.plastic-spoon.de/hardware/Elsa-USB-Microlink-56k.html
which appears as /dev/ttyACM0. It is configured as a Fax class 1.0 modem.

To make shure this is not a syndrome of my modems hardware failing i plugged in
a spare modem of the same type. The same fault happens :-(

At least for me, hylafax is unusable. I do not know how to debug further, it
/might/ be a problem of the kernel (e.g. module cdc-acm) as well.

Thanks for your efforts ...

Well, the bug report against ocaml-core also pointed out other general
shortcomings about ocaml-core, which is getting bloated as the
standard OCaml distribution gets better.

Hence yes, I think that the two bugs are reasonable (and as such they
should be unmerged).

Cheers.

Bug#500991: More info

2008-10-03 Thread Rik Theys

Hi,

It seems the -n option is only applied to "LOGICAL VOLUME" products,
according to a strings on /sbin/multipath.

When I add a device section for 'LOGICAL VOLUME' and specify a
getuid_callout, it uses that one.

I would expect multipath to use the defaults unless explicitely
configured in /etc/multipath.conf

This bug can be downgraded because it will work with a config change,
but should the -n option not be removed from the built-in defaults for
LOGICAL VOLUME?

Regards,

Rik

When trying to start Xglamo the following error message is presented:

chmod u+s /usr/bin/Xglamo obviously fixes the situation.

Bug#500991: incorrect regular expression?

2008-10-03 Thread Rik Theys

Hi,

I think the default regular expression for cciss devices in
/etc/multipath.conf (and the built-in defaults) should be:

devnode "^cciss!c[0-9]d[0-9]*(p[0-9]*)?"

instead of

devnode "^cciss!c[0-9]d[0-9]*[p[0-9]*]

The partition on the cciss disks should be optional?

Regards,

Rik

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for the link, it looks this cheap Adaptec card I have does not conform
to the DDF standard, that's why udev didn't find the raid signature. It will
be probably fixed in a later release of udev.

Hi Russel,

thanks for alerting us of this problem.

Russell Coker wrote:

For lists where the footer only contains unsubscription information, an
alternative to removing the headers could be appending the footer only
on non-signed mail.
Of course, even more preferable would be if people designing standards
would not expect users to change the ways they sign messages (l=) based
on whether it's going to be sent to a list or not as the only way to
accommodate common existing practices.

Kind regards

Bug#500998: machine hangs because if network-manager when authenticating via ldap

2008-10-03 Thread Tobias Vogel

Package: Network-Manager
Version: 0.6.6-2

We are using several computers in our OpenLDAP-Domain and they all have
the same issue: the users authenticate against the LDAP-Domain.

X shows up, but the grey background and the black "X"-cursor stay, and
the machine does not respond any more, [Alt]+[Ctrl]+[F1-12] neither work
as [Alt]+[Ctrl]+[Del] does. The only thing to solve the problem is to
remove the Network-Manager -symlink from the init. Then everything
(except the Network-Manager of course, works).

Before LDAP-Authentication was set up, everything worked fine.

We are using Debian GNU/Linux Lenny, kernel 2.6.26-1-686

Bug#501000: openoffice.org: Incorrect import of text-entry fields on microsoft word .doc import

2008-10-03 Thread David Baron
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.4.1-9
Severity: normal

Text-input fields on .doc files are incorrectly imported:
Most get imported with their default/initial text rather than what had been
entered to the fields
One-character fields get imported as the default character and is no longer a
field.

This make interoperability with ms-word users a bit problematic.
I have not tested whether the file as resaved as a .doc retains the problem or
whether this is just in display.
(I do not have word on this computer so will test later pm at work.)
If I enter text to the field in oo-writer, it will be reread correctly.

Not abuse. Wrong template..:-)

I have actually two templates and one is to be used for situations
where the maintainer said (s)he would upload. I just forgot to use
that one for apt-listchanges. Of course, that *had* to happen with
you, Pierre..:)

You'll notice that I used that occasion to call for an update of
programs translations. All translations were outdated (except French
as it is one of the reasons of the NMU proposal...:-))

Hash: SHA1

Subject: /etc/cron.daily/apt should enforce MaxAge/MaxSize regardless of
AutocleanInterval
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.14
Severity: normal

I want to keep debs in the APT cache for one month, regardless of whether
they are still available for download or whether I have them installed. So
I'm setting APT::Archives::MaxAge to "30" but not setting
APT::Periodic::AutocleanInterval . However, not setting the latter currently
skips the checks enforcing the former (or MaxSize).

The attached patch fixes this, and also makes random_sleep() only sleep at
all if we're going to hit the mirrors.

Bug#500430: gconf2: gconfd-2 not shutting down after user's logout

2008-10-03 Thread Juan Miguel Corral
For anyone having the same problem, here is the workaround I am using.
We assume your nfs homes are mounted in /home/nfs.

1) Create a file named "/etc/init.d/killnfs", with the following content:

#!/bin/sh
#
# Script to kill any remaining processes in /home/nfs, and unmount it.
# It should be run after gdm stops.
#
/bin/fuser -km /home/nfs
umount /home/nfs

2) Save it, and then make it executable by running:

chmod 755 /etc/init.d/killnfs

3) Set it to execute on shutown, after gdm stops, by running:

update-rc.d  killnfs stop 02 0 6 .

Best regards.

I can't easily duplicate what I was seeing now, but I was getting output
that was not UTF-8 while using that output encoding in combination with
Pod::Simple. I'm not quite sure what was going on. It's possible that I
had made some mistake in the middle of my testing, though.

> How about providing your own parse_from_file() wrapper in Pod::Man that

I guess I could do that, but I think I disagree with this:

> I don't think there's any need to touch the filehandles of people using
> parse_file().

I would prefer not to touch the filehandle, but I don't think it's
acceptable to say that if you're using the utf8 option, you still have to
set up output encodings yourself. Maybe I'm overreacting to how difficult
I found this area of Perl to understand, but I'd really rather that
Pod::Man and Pod::Text do the right thing without requiring people
understand Perl's very strange Unicode handling.

Pod::Text also has to do something more complex in order to preserve its
traditional encoding agnosticism if utf8 is not given.

There's a set of default for different classes of devices. I'll remove
the "-n" but I don't think cciss is well supported by the multipath
version in lenny. Current upstream git has it's own patch checker for
cciss (which we can't backport easily since the whole structure of the
path checkers changed).

Does it multipathing work cciss if you remove "-n"? Do the patchs get
detected correctly. Could you attache the output of "multipath -l"?

I'd say you don't multipath partitions at all but only the disks but
then I don't know how multipath on cciss is supposed to work at all?
What machine is this? What kind of storage? I'm inclined to blacklist
cciss altogether for lenny since but please report back first how well
it works for you.

Bug#501005: invoking hostname as domainname does not produce results described in --help

2008-10-03 Thread Graham Inggs

Package: hostname
Version: 2.93
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
According to 'hostname --help', invoking hostname as domainname should
display the NIS/YP domain name, instead the host name is displayed.
Transcript follows:

$ hostname
dreamcoat
$ hostname -y
che.uct.ac.za
$ ln -s /bin/hostname domainname
$ ./domainname
dreamcoat

Output of 'hostname --help':

$ hostname --help
Usage: hostname [-v] {hostname|-F file} set host name (from file)
domainname [-v] {nisdomain|-F file} set NIS domain name (from file)
hostname [-v] [-d|-f|-s|-a|-i|-y] display formated name
  hostname [-v] display host name

hostname -V|--version|-h|--help print info and exit

   dnsdomainname=hostname -d, {yp,nis,}domainname=hostname -y

   -s, --short short host name
   -a, --alias alias names
-i, --ip-address addresses for the host name
-f, --fqdn, --longlong host name (FQDN)
   -d, --domain DNS domain name
-y, --yp, --nis NIS/YP domain name
-F, --fileread host name or NIS domain name from given file

This command can get or set the host name or the NIS domain name. You can
also get the DNS domain or the FQDN (fully qualified domain name).
Unless you are using bind or NIS for host lookups you can change the
FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) and the DNS domain name (which is
part of the FQDN) in the /etc/hosts file.

As some commercial packages expect the NIS/YP domain name, I suggest
inserting the following lines in hostname.c:

   if (!strcmp(progname, "domainname"))
   type = NIS;

immediately below the lines:

   if (!strcmp(progname, "dnsdomainname"))
   type = DNS;

Alternatively, the help text should be updated to match the current
behavior.

scsi_id shifted quiet some options around "-s" got dropped (which is
fixed) but probably "-n" too.

No it isn't. Something like:

defaults {
getuid_callout "/lib/udev/scsi_id -g -u -d /dev/%n"
}

should work.

Bug#500991: incorrect regular expression?

The partition on the cciss disks should be optional?

I'd say you don't multipath partitions at all but only the disks but
then I don't know how multipath on cciss is supposed to work at all?
What machine is this? What kind of storage? I'm inclined to blacklist
cciss altogether for lenny since but please report back first how well
it works for you.

The machine is an HP DL380G5 with an HP smart array P400i raid
controller. I was just testing the multipath support because I will need
it later on. The RAID disk is not available using multiple paths, but
multipath should still list it as one path (IMHO).

With the default blacklist info and the patch checker configured for
LOGICAL VOLUME devices, the callout still fails, because it checks for
/dev/cciss!c0d0 instead of /dev/cciss/c0d0:

Bug#501006: kdelibs5 requires libpcre3 >= 7.8

2008-10-03 Thread Brendon Higgins
Package: kdelibs5
Version: 4:4.1.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Currently kdelibs5 in experimental requires libpcre3 >= 7.4, but this is
insufficient. One symptom I discovered is that in Konqueror JavaScript /xyzzy/
type regexps all fail with an uninformative error as soon as they are declared.
This has a pretty detrimental effect on any number of websites. Upgrading
libpcre3 from the version in testing (7.6) to unstable (7.8) fixes such
problems.

The dependency should probably be changed to >= 7.8.

Peace,
Brendon

Currently I do
- chattr -i $file
- replace $file
- chattr +i $file
:-|

Fortunately though, one can still stuff like PHP forum software
etc. in the users' domains in order to keep it in a central location, as
only the wrapper has the suexec limitations, but not what is called by
the wrapper.

As for the CGI scripts, you are right, keeping them in a central place
is not currently possible. :-(
What I/my control panel do is, there is a central location where these
scripts are stored, an the users' cgi-bins are updated from that
location. One however has to take precautions (e.g. in the form of cron
jobs) to update the users once the central repository gets updated.
This is a pity as otherwise the modfcgid/fastcgi+php variant works
pretty well and is pretty secure too.

I can't reproduce this, and the only explanation that I have for this
behavior is that /var/mail itself is not readable, in which case Emacs
won't be able to stat(2) the files in it.

Do you still see this?

Maybe it stopped working because the names of the default files has

Bug#492065: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the hesiod package

2008-10-03 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of hesiod and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the hesiod Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de eu fi fr gl it nb nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the hesiod package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, October
09, 2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Sunday, September 28, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Friday, October 03, 2008 : send this notice
Thursday, October 09, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Friday, October 10, 2008 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, October 12, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#501009: bugs.debian.org - allow forcemerge of packages within the same source package

2008-10-03 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: bugs.debian.org
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

Hi folks

For the Linux kernel packages, mostly the source package linux-2.6, we
get a large amount of duplicate bug reports, spread over hundreds of
binary packages.

To make the handling of them easier please allow forcemerge of packages
within the binaries of one source. (See this message[1].)

The semantic may be something like the following:
- If the set of package names match (the current check), go on.
- If the set of sourcepackages match, merge the package names.
  Example:
  - Bug a: filed against linux-image-2.6.26-1-686, found in 2.6.26-4.
  - Bug b: filed against linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64, found in 2.6.26-6.
may produce a merged bug which is filed against
  "linux-image-2.6.26-1-686,linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64", found in
  "2.6.26-4,2.6.26-6".

Hi,
the version in lenny supports -o so there's little point in adding a

Bug#501011: disputable statement in package description

2008-10-03 Thread W. Martin Borgert
Package: tnef
Version: 1.4.3-2
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The long package description states:

Due to the proliferation of Microsoft Outlook and Exchange mail servers,
more and more mail is encapsulated into this format.

This is not true anymore. Maybe due to the proliferation of web
based mail services or maybe because people use thunderbird
a.k.a. icedove, those attachments are really rare nowadays.

Suggested patch: Remove the lines.

(You should also replace the "Homepage:" line from the
description with the correct control field.)

Such an index might also be interesting for UDD or PET or other tools
that want to display the "patch status" and/or patch number.

Another approach that has been proposed is to put symlinks to the source
files along with the .elc files, See

http://bugs.debian.org/157123
[emacsen-common: policy should require .el files to be in the emacs load-path]

One of the contributors to that report thinks that explicitly adding .el
path is not desirable. I do not know if setting subdirs.el has known drawbacks,
but symlinks aproach keeps load-path shorter and is currently used by a number
of emacs add-on packages with no known problems.

Since all these bug reports deal with the same problem, I am also merging
them. Being #157123 the one with more extense discussion, I am using it as
base.

127.0.0.1 is the first loopback address and always allocated in newer
kernels.

What exactly are you trying to do? Inter-guest-communication via the
loopback device?

Bug#498144: remove sympa from lenny?

2008-10-03 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Hi,

sympa has two RC bugs open for about one month, #496520 about insecure
usage of tmp (which looks at least partially fixed upstream, but has no
maintainer response) and #498144 about problems on upgrade (with an
initial maintainer response "will investigate, also happened to people
at the last security upgrades", but no visible activity since).

Unless the maintainer (or perhaps Olivier who forwarded the first bug
upstream, CCed) resolve these bugs soon, it might be better to not
release sympa with lenny.
It does not seem to have reverse dependencies. There are a few users
(double digit popcon), but not exceedingly many.

Kind regards

T.

Bug#475036: Possible workaround

2008-10-03 Thread Kai Wasserbäch
Hi,
for me it worked to generate version.h and utsrelease.h in include/linux
manually. Maybe you want to try it.

For 2.6.26.5 you'll need the following in version.h:
#define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 132634
#define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c))

(The LINUX_VERSION_CODE is calculated like this: $VERSION * 65536 + $PATCHLEVEL
* 256 + $SUBPATCHLEVEL (with $VERSION = 2, $PATCHLEVEL = 6, $SUBPATCHLEVEL =
26), see the top-level Makefile for more information).

utsrelease.h contains something like:
#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.26.5[LOCAL VERSION STRING]"

(The [LOCAL VERSION STRING] is the part you can either set with the
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION option in the kernel configuration or by using
--append-to-version)

The above examples are for version 2.6.26.5, but it works for other kernel
versions too.
German speaking people might want to check my howto at [0].

Greetings,
Kai

You'll later need multipath support with cciss or with something else?
As I wrote, for proper cciss support current multipath git is needed.
This is AFAIK the only hardware that is supported in upstream git but
not in any released version. All the rest (FC, iSCSI) should work well.

I've just uploaded a new version of multipath-tools that blacklists
cciss. I'd be great if you could test if your cciss disks get correctly
blacklisted. In case you desperately need cciss, please file a wishlist
bug to package up current git. I will try to do it soon then - help
appreciated of course.

Yes, I made a mess of that not updating the bug. I've checked with
upstream and they have some ideas to try (incidentally it is a firefox
bug that leads down the bad code path, but still a bug that needs
fixed in graphite/pango-graphite). If I can get a fixed package
uploaded in the next day or three would it get back in? If so I'll let
you know tomorrow if that will happen or not.

The signature is not making any statement about the content of the message,
merely about where it came from.

If a message is signed as coming from a Debian list server then I can know
whether it was corrupted between the Debian server and my mail server. Then
if there is some issue as to the content I can contact the Debian list
administrators if there is a need to track it back further.

The Gmail servers sign all mail. Some of that mail is spam, and a lot of the
non-spam mail is of low quality. This does not reduce the value of having a
signature. Knowing that a message came from a Gmail server without
corruption is useful, I can then assign a value on the message based on the
reported sender.

Ideally the Debian list servers would sign outgoing mail and also sign an
extra header which indicates the signing status of the message when it
arrived at the Debian server. The DKIM spec supports signing arbitrary
headers - including X- headers.

Bug#501015: gajim: should not redisplay openpgp dialog on reconnection

2008-10-03 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
Package: gajim
Version: 0.11.4-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
while using and openpgp-enabled account the "You will be connected to %s
without OpenPGP." dialog appears on every reconnection if a
passphrase has not been provided.

The dialog of course needs only to be acknowledged, wouldn't a
notification a better fit for the purpose?

thanks,
filippo

I understand,

Even if it installs iceweasel-l10n-ja, "general.useragent.locale" does not
change to "ja" from "en-US". This seems not to reflect it, although written
to "chrome/ja.jar/locale/ja/global/intl.properties." If character strings,
such as "en-US", are contained in User Agent, the fault of being unable to
peruse some sites in Japan will come out. This is a problem which is not seen
in localization build of Mozilla Firefox.

oVirt consists of two major parts: the "appliance" for managing the

currently being shipped as Fedora 9 based os images. Building a Debian

How does the artist tag for your files look like?

Could you apply the attached patch to
/usr/share/decibel-audio-player/src/modules/Library.py and attach the output of
running decibel-audio-player in a terminal and trying to open your library?

Could you also attach $path/artists, where $path should be shown in the terminal
when patching Library.py and running decibel-audio-player?

As I wrote, for proper cciss support current multipath git is needed.
This is AFAIK the only hardware that is supported in upstream git but
not in any released version. All the rest (FC, iSCSI) should work well.

I've just uploaded a new version of multipath-tools that blacklists
cciss. I'd be great if you could test if your cciss disks get correctly
blacklisted. In case you desperately need cciss, please file a wishlist
bug to package up current git. I will try to do it soon then - help
appreciated of course.

I won't need cciss support in the near future as I will be connecting FC
disks to the server. I will test the new version of multipath-tools
(with cciss blacklisted), if you give me the location of the .deb. Or
will it enter unstable?

If I still have a spare server with an cciss card when the git version
is packaged, I will help test/debug it.

Rik

Bug#450832: Drivemount applet not appearing

If you insert a CD or a plug a USB key, does it appear correctly on the
desktop and in computer:/// ? Does it still not appear in the drivemount
applet ?

I'm a dedicated user of sympa and hope that the problems will be
resolved. It is a really good piece of software and it would be a pity
to remove it from lenny.

I don't get a say in this, but more then 7 months as response time is
not an advertisement that it's well-maintained. One month can happen[1],
two months probably as well, but seven? We would not want to have bugs

Bug#476177: Bug 476177

2008-10-03 Thread Jacob Winther
Hi again,

I have found the issue :)

The upstream put a symlink between
/usr/lib/irssi/modules/libfe_common_silc.so and
/usr/lib/irssi/modules/libfe_silc.so tosupport old clients that did
not look for libfe_common_silc.so.

The issue for debian is the the version of irssi in use loads both
libs. The fix for me was to just rm libfe_silc.so, and this has been
tested by a few people.

This fix is now considered redundant, and is also not an issue in
newer versions of irssi. The recommendation is to remove the symlink
creation. For debian, this is the problem:

if SILCPLUGIN
install-data-hook: libfe_common_silc.la
-ln -s libfe_common_silc.so $(DESTDIR)$(moduledir)/libfe_silc.so

in this file:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-silc/silc-client/trunk/apps/irssi/src/fe-common/silc/Makefile.am?op=file&rev=0&sc=0

I'm no Mikefile expert, but I assume the fix is to remove the second line.

I hope this is all you need to fix the issue in lenny, please let me
know if you need any more info.

this is where the issue was discussed, however its still not fixed upstream.

https://lists.silcnet.org/pipermail/silc-devel/2008-March/002070.html

Cheers,
Jacob

I thought it was an RFC by now. The obvious way would be signing the
footer part that we added (by, say, having a start and lenght field and
allowing multiple signatures), having "well-signed" mean "signature
headers covering everything".
People wishing to implement some policy could impose restrictions of
content covered by "auxiliary signatures". Naturally, another sane
policy would be requiring timely delivery of messages relative to the
oldest signature.

But this is offtopic here, maybe it'd be worth wile to take it up to the
dkim-people, but until they decidedly need input and are prepared to fix
this, I'm not too sure it's good use of my time nor whether my ideas on
the subject have significant drawbacks.[1]

Yes, it's not ideal that we're appending stuff, but we still get mail
from people not being able to figure out how to unsubscribe at a rate of
about 1/per day.

Kind regards

T.

1. I once had a conversation with an IMAP expert participating in the
standards process and was surprised how they did not have globally
unique identifiers. There are some things to be considered, but the
security concerns he cited seemed to be easy enough to eliminate.

As a quick workaround:

Bug#498144: remove sympa from lenny?

2008-10-03 Thread Olivier Salaün

I'm another Olivier, but I can provide some feedback still.

As far as we're concerned all reported bugs, regarding insecure usage of
tmp, have been fixed in Sympa. It's now up to the Debian maintainer to
apply the patches to the Debian package.

If we've missed something, please let us know...

Thomas Viehmann a écrit :

sympa has two RC bugs open for about one month, #496520 about insecure
usage of tmp (which looks at least partially fixed upstream, but has no
maintainer response) and #498144 about problems on upgrade (with an
initial maintainer response "will investigate, also happened to people
at the last security upgrades", but no visible activity since).
