Bug#373890: vim: cscope integration not available on amd64

2006-06-16 Thread Torok Edwin
Package: vim
Version: 1:7.0-017+6
Severity: normal

On amd64 vim has no support for cscope (:cs says sorry this command is not
available in this version).
Comparing :version from the 64-bit env, and the 32-bit chroot: I see the amd64
version has -cscope, while the 32bit
one has +cscope. Why is that? Shouldn't these settings be consistent through
architectures?

Bug #318825 in dpkg has been fixed now, and I can no longer reproduce
the problem. Could you try it and see whether it works for you? If it
does, I can close the bug report. Thanks.

Yes, I found that in the man page, so I wasn't requesting a change back.

But maybe it would be nice to warn the upgrading user.
Could save some bug reports, too. On the other hand only laptop users
would need to be warned... Difficult situation.
Good thing: Now googling will bring up this bug report to help.

Thanks again,

That fixes the problem, thanks. The fix is obvious in retrospect,
especially given that I inspected the ubuntu version of the file,
which had the "include" line; I don't know how I missed it.

Bug#373707: kmymoney2: FTBFS in sid (problem with kbanking)

2006-06-16 Thread Carsten Luedtke
Hello  Sune

Sorry for the severity, i did set it to serious in reportbug, but it
asked me if I would know to which section in policy this would apply. I
didn't know this for sure and said "unknown" as it was suggested. So
looks like reportbug is to blame for this. Which section would be? 4.2 ?

Then, i haven't got the copy of the reply you have send to my account
for some reason. And for the sig, yes it looks bad, and i can't verify
it too - i don't know the cause of this. Another mail I have send to the
BTS verifies good. I will have an eye on this. I hope this message has a
valid one.

Cheers

Bug#373895: g++-4.1: "multiple definition" linker errors with code that used to work

2006-06-16 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: g++-4.1
Version: 4.1.1-5
Severity: important

While linking code that uses boost date_time headers, I get lots of
errors like:

foo.o: (.data+0x0): multiple definition of
`_ZN5boost9date_time18parse_match_resultIT_E11PARSE_ERRORE'
bar.o:(.data+0x0): first defined here

That's from boost/date_time/string_parse_tree.hpp, and the relevant code
looks like:

  template
  struct parse_match_result
  {
[...]
static const short PARSE_ERROR;
  };
  template
  const short parse_match_result::PARSE_ERROR = -1;

Reverting to 4.1.1-2 fixes this problem. I'm guessing it's a consequence
of the patch for PR c++/26068.

Bug#373898: portreserve: README.Debian -- provide full example for NFS "port lockdown"

2006-06-16 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: portreserve
Version: 0.0.0-3
Severity: wishlist

Portreserve seems to address the problems that are all the time
occurring in the field. The README.Debian is very good, but one real
life example how to use would demonstrate it best.

Please consider adding step by step example for NFS, which is probably
the most wanted case: how to "use fixed NFS ports?"

Bug#373897: O: qsynaptics -- A QT application to configure Synaptic TouchPad

2006-06-16 Thread Arnaud Quette

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I don't have time for this package anymore, but Fathi Boudra expressed
the wish to adopt it, along with ksynaptics and the libsynaptics ITP.

I will rely on Mark Purcell or Pierre Habouzit for sponsoring uploads.
I'm currently waiting for info from theim to update the Maintainer
field, and do a last upload.

Eh, I expect that this will just be a proposal. It might be helpful to
coordinate such changes a bit before with the main maintainer of the dev
ref, before putting too much work into it.

Bug#365727: AM_GNU_GETTEXT([external]) leads to missing CATOBJEXT replacement

2006-06-16 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

 This is a followup for Debian bug ,
 which I'm discovering now.

 Daniel, here's an attempt to summarize the various facts mentionned
 during the life of this bug report:
 - your initial issue happened when combining
   "AM_GNU_GETTEXT([external])" with intltool 0.34; intltool 0.34
   expects CATOBJEXT, but AM_GNU_GETTEXT([external]) -- which is meant
   ot be used with other intl tools such as intltool -- failed defining
   it
 - when this reached the eyes of gettext folks, they replied that
   intltool shouldn't be relying on this
 - intltool 0.35 doesn't rely on CATOBJEXT anymore

 (Please correct anything wrong here above.)

 Do you consider something still needs to be done? Are you willing to
 fix a remaining issue with current gettext and intltool or are you
 trying to make it work in combinations such as newer gettext and
 intltool 0.34? Or perhaps the bug is now completely obsolete?

   Thanks,

This doesn't seem to be the case. The details from the previous sessions
I found living in ~/tmp/epiphany-noodles-*/ but starting up dbus (or
rather, making sure Epiphany could find the already running copy) didn't
make them available. It has solved the problem of bookmarks disappearing
over sessions as expected though.

For the d-i rescue system, I thought this was handled by discover. Am I right?
There's i2o_block support in discover, although not working on my hardware. I
think it just needs a new entry for this PCI id.

For the installed system, doesn't the patch in #318120 address this?

Bug#373899: cupsys: USB backend cannot access /dev/usb/lp0

2006-06-16 Thread Alexey Feldgendler
Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.1-2
Severity: grave

When the USB backend process is spawned, its UID is set to 7 (lp), but
the GID remains 0 (I've checked in /proc//status). This makes CUPS
incompatible with the default configuration of udev, which sets for
/dev/usb/lp[0-9] owner root, group lp, and mode 660.

The backend process should be spawned with GID 7 (lp) as well as UID 7 (lp).

Severity justification: local printers which use parallel, serial, and
usb backends, are unusable without manual reconfiguration of udev.

Does the hibernate process involve switching to console? Due to

the X server currently doesn't do it on its own.

It's not the compression that causes the problem but a change in

Have you tried to install the eclipse-*-gcj and libswt-*-gcj packages
too? Is the speed of eclipse with GCJ then acceptable for you?

I plan to add an eclipse-gcj package to the next upload which depends on
all needed packages.

Bug#373887: the cause of the problem

2006-06-16 Thread Chris Moore

/usr/share/python/pyversions.py defines requested_versions(), which
returns either a list:
 versions = [current]
or a set:
 versions = vinfo['versions'].intersection(supported)

Then /usr/bin/pycentral calls that function, and expects it to return a list:
 def set_default_runtime_from_version_info(self):
 versions = pyversions.requested_versions(self.version_field,
version_only=True)
 self.default_runtime = get_runtime_for_version(versions[0])

When I run it, versions is Set(['2.4']) , and so
trying to evaluate versions[0] causes TypeError: unindexable object.

I guess the solution is to make requested_versions() always return a
list, but I don't know.

Bug#372258: bugs happens when kwalletmanager is started with session parameter

2006-06-16 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hello,

I found out something more about this bug:

Directly after starting KDE kwalletmanager was started as follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ -> ps aux | grep kwallet
martin7670  1.9  3.1  28120 12144 ?S10:00   0:00
kwalletmanager -session 1012dc6d3d30001150311006

It didn't appear in the tray.

Then I did "killall kwalletmanager" and started it just the same way:

kwalletmanager -session 1012dc6d3d30001150311006

It still didn't appear in the try.

Then I stopped it again and just started it as "kwalletmanager". Then it
appeared in the tray.

Is an invalid / old session being used? Whatever the bug at least seems to
be somehow related to the session parameter.

Regards,

Hi,

I have followed the recommendations from Michael (have used
/.eclipse/eclipserc to override default JAVA_HOME instead of
/etc/eclipse/java_home), and it solved the problem.

With GCJ it ran still a bit slow. With SUN JDK it runs fine.

Bug#373902: webcheck: upgrade to recent python policy

2006-06-16 Thread Arthur de Jong
Subject: webcheck: upgrade to recent python policy
Package: webcheck
Version: 1.9.6
Severity: normal

Webcheck should be upgraded to the new python policy. See

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/06/msg8.html
http://people.debian.org/~piman/python-policy/python-policy.html/
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianPython/NewPolicy
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianPythonFAQ

It should probably be packaged as an application with private modules
(although the modules could theoretically be used publicly).

The version in unstable is only 0.8.0-5. Can you try that one instead?
It is unlikely that it will make a difference, but at least we can make

you don't need to search for the policy section for a ftbfs. I'm even

thanks - still some warts to iron out though:

1st off: I applied pathes 1,2,3b,shortcuts-1 to faxinfo.c++ from 4.3.0 -
hope the final .c++ is the intended one.

I get:

* ./faxinfo -r '!'  fax07138.tif

  i.e. -r seems not working.

  Ah... but:
  ./faxinfo -r fax07138.tif

It is a general problem, but tetex-doc provides much more than
texdoctk. In fact, texdoctk is provided by tetex-bin (and the
problematic conffile is in tetex-base for dependency reasons, hence the
reassigning). You can still read the documentation, either searching
them yourself, or using texdoc. Therefore I think "normal" is the
correct severity.

That's not necessary, xdvi will do the unzipping on itself.

A fix is under way.

Bug#373854: libtiff-tools: DSA 1091-1 broke tiffsplit

2006-06-16 Thread Christoph Biedl
Christoph Biedl wrote...

> Package: libtiff-tools
> Version: 3.7.2-5
> Severity: important

Let me elaborate on that.

How to repeat:

Use tiffsplit to split an arbitrary .tiff file:
| tiffsplit foo.tif foo.
This should result in a file name foo.aaa.tif (and foo.aab.tif and so on
if the .tiff contains more than one page). Since DSA 1091-1 a single
file "D" is created instead.

What goes wrong:

tiffsplit composes the name of the created file using the submitted
"prefix" with the serial appened (this is in fname) and the extension
".tif". The resulting name is written to "path".

Prior to DSA 1091-1 the vulnerable code was
| strcpy(path, fname);
| strcat(path, ".tif");

This was changed to
| snprintf(fname, sizeof(fname), "%s.tif", fname);
but should obviously be
| snprintf(path, sizeof(path), "%s.tif", fname);
and was discussed so in #369819.

Currently, in the subsequent
| out = TIFFOpen(path, TIFFIsBigEndian(in)?"wb":"wl");
"path" is not defined, the file name is whatever is in the stack at the
time of "path"'s creation.

How to fix:
Exchange the according line in debian/patches/CVE-2006-2656.patch
Works for me.

   I do not like this patch because it assumes that long has the same
size as void *, which is true in practice but not guaranteed. A more
correct patch did this:

union { int i; void *p; } dummy;
memcpy(&ptModAmiga, (Uint8 *)pMixmodule + sizeof(dummy), sizeof(void *));

   It is not absolutely necessary to have the union, but it guarantees
that the code with also work on platforms where ints are bigger than
pointers (though I don't know any modern platform that does that).

   This patch was in tecnoballz 0.91cvs20060501-1.3 but for some reason
it disappeared from 0.91cvs20060612-1.

Bug#373909: g++-4.0: template function returning nested class fails to compile when defined outside of its class

2006-06-16 Thread Frank B. Brokken
Package: g++-4.0
Version: 4.0.3-3
Severity: normal

Dear maintainer,

The following code generates the g++ compiler error:

14: error: expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion
before Outer

template
class Outer
{
public:
class Inner
{
};

Inner get() const;
};

template
Outer::Inner
Outer::get() const   // <-- this is line 14
{
return Inner();
}

If the function get() is placed inside the template class Outer, no error is
reported. E.g.,

template
class Outer
{
public:
class Inner
{
};

Inner get() const
{
return Inner();
}
};

An external definition compiles well if the class Inner is explicitly defined
as a template class (even though no template parameters are required). E.g.,

template
class Outer
{
public:
template
class Inner
{
};

Inner get() const;
};

template
Outer::Inner
Outer::get() const
{
return Inner();
}

Moreover, the first source, producing a compilation error with g++ was also
offered to the intel C++ compiler, where it compiled flawlessly. Here is a
transcript of the issued commands, illustrating the difference:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/programming/C++$ g++ -c -Wall demo1.cxx
demo1.cxx:14: error: expected constructor, destructor, or type
conversion before ?Outer?
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/programming/C++$ icc -c -Wall demo1.cxx
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/programming/C++$

My considerations for filing a bug report were:
* g++ produces a compilation error where icc doesn't;
* g++'s compilation error is only produced when the template function is
defined outside of its template class;
* the reported error message is rather cryptic, given the nature of the
source, suggesting confusion on the part of the compiler.

Of course, g++ might offer a more rigid implementation of the C++ standard at
this point. However, I couldn't find a clear indication that the external
function implementation violates the standard. Hence the bug report.

Well, that's not consistent with the output you quote in the bugreport.

Which variant of vim are you running? You can discover it either with
"readline -f `which vim`". If you're running vim-tiny the behvaiour you
report is normal, vim-tiny has no support for cscope, while all other
variants should have it.

thanks

Hi,

I've just applied Sam's last patch (provided in debian package version
0.91cvs20060501-1.3) in the upstream CVS repository.

I've packaged the resulting export as version 0.91cvs20060616-1.

This bug will then be closed as soon as that package is uploaded to the
Debian archive.

I guess that now, for real, tecnoballz does run on AMD 64 archs ;-)

Thanks for anyone who gave a hand for closing that issue.

Best regards,

I can reproduce the bug.

The problem is that the application only support the following locales:

English, Italian, French, German, Spanish.

Looking into the sources, it seems that wxMaxima choose English as
default locale. This should be changed to C or POSIX.

This can be modified in the ~/.wxMaxima config file, setting
the "language" parameter

I will make a patch for this and notify wxMaxima author.

In the meantime, the simpler way to fix the problem is to add en_GB to
the list of your locales. You can do this easily with the command
"dpkg-reconfigure locales".

The other option is that someone add localization for finnish

Thanks for your report.

I personally don't want to read any finnish translations so I have
just LC_CTYPE=fi_FI and rest (including LANG) set to "C". So having
maxima work with "C" would be nice.

apt-get install python-gdbm ? (Or use aptitude as recommended as
aptitude has the better conflict resolver?)

Indeed it is. I've been using module-assistant to compile it for a while, and
I don't recall doing anything special to get that working. IIRC, it was just
already in the list. Have you actually tried using m-a to compile it? What

Ok, looks like /bin/sh is linked to dash on avidan, that makes the
selftests fail as you reported.

Hi Julien, I cannot reproduce this, neither on a current sid/i386
system, nor with pbuilder. Also there's an (I guess) autobuilt binary
package for i386 already available through
 http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/git-core/
although no logs are available through buildd.debian.org.

Can you please retry, and if it again fails, post the complete log?

2006-06-16 Thread Martin Hawlisch
Andreas,

thanks for the info. I didnt know it was removed.

Basically what happened was that the dist-upgrade (upgrading python2.4) wants
to remove avahi-discover, python2.4-avahi, python2.4-gdbm and
service-discovery-applet.
I didnt want the service-discovery-applet be removed and thought this version
conflict being the source of the problem.

Isnt there a way to let apt-get install the new python-gdbm (which resolves the
conflict) instead of removing the other packages?

Cheers,
  Martin.

Ah, I see. Bookmarks are indeed lost when they are set in a private

I also hope this whole issue can be fixed and epiphany can be run

Hello Michael,

Unfortunately, kaffe still FTBFS on ia64, albeit differently:

Bug#373920: Python2.3/2.3.5-14 (and also Python2.4) fail to install

2006-06-16 Thread Ryan Anderson
Package: python2.3
Version: 2.3.5-14

Trying to install Python2.3 from sid, I get the following failure during
postinst:

Setting up python2.3 (2.3.5-14) ...
Traceback (most recent call last):

  File "/usr/bin/pycentral", line 575, in
set_default_runtime_from_version_info
self.default_runtime = get_runtime_for_version(versions[0])
TypeError: unindexable object
dpkg: error processing python2.3 (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 python2.3
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I get a similar error with Python2.4  (I think it's actually identical)

The versions in testing, as of this writing, do correctly install.
(2.3.5-9.1 and 2.4.2-2)

Bug#373905: Update

2006-06-16 Thread Drake Wilson
Ah, apparently monsterz-data depends on python and python-pygame
instead. In fact, monsterz-data contains the main Python file used to
run the game in the first place. That's kind of bizarre and
unintuitive.

Installing python2.4 and python2.4-pygame and then explicitly running

  $ python2.4 /usr/share/games/monsterz/monsterz.py

seems to cause Monsterz to start properly, though I haven't tested the
rest of the game yet.
