[Debconf-team] DC15 local team meeting tonight, 21:00 local time
Hey people, let's sync up tonight again on what needs to be done for DC15 locally. Agenda is (will be) here: https://wiki.debconf.org/DebConf15/Germany/Minutes/2015-03-09 Topics will mainly be day trip, conference dinner, child care, and also starting off on stuff like furniture for job fair and the showcase booths, and local transport deals. I've been talking with several upstreams of GnuPG and related projects recently, several of whom are located in Germany. There's some interest in trying to get people together in debconf to think about GnuPG's better integration in the overall ecosystem and how to improve the situation; i don't know if this fits into the "security, safety, and hacking" track, or if it might be a separate track, or just a collection of linked events. I recognize that a "GnuPG" track on its own might not be too narrowly-focused for debconf, but given that debian represents one of the larger systems that integrates GnuPG natively, we're in a good position to help our upstreams think more clearly about integration, compatibility, and interface issues, so i think an "OpenPGP ecosystem" track would be useful. (fwiw, i'd be happy of other upstreams besides GnuPG who have an interest in broader integration used debian in this way as well) I'll try to get more concrete proposals about what these events might be, and we'll probably submit them anyway, track or no track. i just wanted to give a heads-up to the orga team about the idea. I'm happy to hear any feedback about it. Regards, --dkg ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team

My immediate reaction would be that (i) it would fit into "Security, Safety, and Hacking" (and if you think it might not, then maybe we should add "Crypto" or "Cryptography" to the track title?), and (ii) you should consider having a DebCamp sprint about this for hacking (and not just presenting). Whether or not we can/will accept a larger amount of GnuPG (but not necessarily Debian) related talks will be up to the content team as a whole. But also be aware that same as last year, ad-hoc sessions will be possible. Michael ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team

Hi Martin; I'd like to see the travel sponsorship split into an amount for internal use (sponsoring key volunteers) and the "normal" part allocated by bursaries. I don't know how much to put in each line, but from my point of view, one of the main goals of modifying the allocation process is to make the amount spent on volunteers transparent. d ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team

That's easily done and possibly already included. The travel sponsorship budget is already split between "backed" and "unbacked" sponsorship. The idea here is that the Debian Project could "back" an amount of X EUR so that this money we know we'll have for sure, while the rest must be earned in fundraising. It's not too far a stretch to say that Debian would have a vested interest in ensuring the participation of key volunteers, so to me, I'd say those people should be booked against this account. We can also easily create more accounts and split the "backed" funds up further. Or create a new class. Anything goes. > I don't know how much to put in each line, but from my point of > view, one of the main goals of modifying the allocation process is > to make the amount spent on volunteers transparent. Maybe the best (and only) way to do this would be to look at previous years and then extrapolate a guess? Don't let the current figure (27.5k I believe) put you off. I built the budget bottom-up, so whenever more money became available (or reasonably certain), I'd allocate it to expenses as I saw fit. In some ways, this is how it'll have to be done, since we will have a cap at the top somewhere. But you may be able to figure out percentages from the past. Or we'll make DC15 be the first year, keep track of this in the books and then build next year's budget based on that. -- .''`. martin f. krafft @martinkrafft : :' : DebConf orga team `. `'` `- DebConf15: Heidelberg, Germany: http://debconf15.debconf.org DebConf16: Cape Town: https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf16 digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/sig-policy/999bbcc4/current) ___ Debconf-team mailing list Debconf-team@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team

Lanyards: if we don’t want printed lanyards, the budget seems OK (including badges). We need a phone (and a registration phone number) and few credit (possibly it could be the the registration desk budget) Transport seems very low. I expect more expenses (e.g. parking), because I expect more logistic travels, and if we had some people with disabilities, we should provide transportation to C&W, conference dinned, etc. Remember the banners:. we need them with the sponsor logos. In general: no; once the budget is decided, money can be expended as planned. If more money comes in, then the additional money can be allocated, which requires another approval round (of the new budget). And if there's an extraordinary event, e.g. we fail to raise enough funds, or a budget position runs short, then we need to learn from that for the future and find a solution, by re-allocating funds (new budget), or by printing money.
