Not so long ago there was talk of a conference provided bus from various
airports, in [0] Adnan Hodzic said (in reply to John Goerzen):

We're planning to have free organized transport from Airport (Zagreb,
Sarajevo) to (Venue) in Banja Luka.

Is this plan going ahead? It would certainly be very useful to know
about (and advertise) if so.

One alternative option I'm considering is to fly to Ljubljana and hire a
car to drive to Banja Luka since from Cambridge I can easily get to
Stansted from where I can get a cheapish easyjet flight to LBJ, compared
with a ~2 hour drive to Heathrow for a more expensive flight to Zagreb
the overall cost works out around the same ballpark and the total travel
time seems to be roughly the same too.

Perhaps the practicalities of taking a hire car across multiple borders
will make this plan infeasible (plus it looks like TomTom only has
partial coverage in the region). Does anyone local have any advice on
this?

Ian.

Oh, I see it's mentioned at
http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf11/Travel-Arriving#Official_transportation
(I swear it wasn't earlier, ;-))

It would be useful to have some more concrete information since it would
inform people's long-distance travel plans somewhat.

I saw that plan, unfortunately I need to come home early to be back for
a flight to Turkey on the Monday or I'd have asked to get in on the road
trip with you guys.

I figured it would be even worse when hiring a car but the according to
my employer's travel bureau both Hertz and Avis are happy to rent a car
in Ljubljana to drive to Banja Luka, although apparently no one else is.

BTW, when RSN becomes N (;-)) I'd be very interested to know what the
provision will be for outliers arriving/leaving on days other than the
first and last days -- since I'm likely to need to leave on the Friday,
since if the answer is none I need to plan accordingly...

Is it expected that there will be shuttles leaving on the Friday? (I'd

My usual rule of thumb would be to get to the airport 2hrs before,
although I didn't check the airlines T&C yet.

Yes. The only reason I was considering any other option was that I can
save myself a 2+ hour car journey (longer by train) at the UK end if I
can fly from Stansted instead of Heathrow, but that means going to
Ljubljana instead of Zagreb.

I've pretty much decided that saving myself a couple of hours travel in
the UK is not worth the complexity/hassle of doing my own thing at the
other end.

[Debconf-discuss] How long is the bus from Zagreb Airport to the main bus station?

2011-07-08 Thread Ian Campbell
Hello,

How long is the bus journey from Zagreb airport to the bus station? The
timetable at [0] only gives the departure times and the wiki [1] doesn't
say. If I ask for driving directions on the map at [2] (linked from the
wiki) it suggests 25 minutes which I guess is the lower bound for the
bus.

Also, the bus from Zagreb to Banja Luka is quoted as being "108, 123,
140 HRK" (depending on time of day?). Is that a single journey or
return? If it is a single then for the return can we also pay in BAM
(how much?) or should we ensure we have some extra HRK in hand?

Thanks!

Ian.

Is there anywhere/thing which you would recommend as a good landmark for
meeting others in or around the airport?

A bunch of us who are arriving within an hour or so of each other are
planning to congregate at the airport and travel to the main bus station
together so it would be useful to have some easily recognisable spot to
converge on (bonus points if it is a cafe or similar for the benefit of
those arriving first ;-)).

"By bus to Zagreb The airport bus leaves every half hour for the
25-minute trip to Zagreb bus station and it costs 30HRK." which is
authoritative enough for me.

More information is always better, thank you very much!

My only remaining question is whether we can pay for the return in BAM
but since I need to get some HRK anyway I may as well just get enough
for the worst case cost in both directions.

OK. I'll assume that the return prices are roughly a direct conversion
from HRK to BAM +/- a little bit.

Me too.

Those of us arriving between 1305 and 1405 on that day (at least those
on the wiki) had agreed to meet up at the airport and travel together,
I'm willing to go with the consensus of that group on this.

By my count there are nine people, not eight, arriving between 1305 and
1405 on the 24th, all of whom have said yes to the proposal:
 1. Raphael Hertzog
 2. Martin Michlmayr
 3. Salvatore Bonaccorso
 4. David Bremner
 5. Cheryl Petreman
 6. Sami Liedes
 7. Timo Lindfors
 8. Kåre Thor Olsen
 9. Me!
(this is also the entire group who was planning to meet at the airport).

I'll give connecto-taxi.com a call and see what they say about a 9
seater.

Thanks for doing the legwork on this Lionel!

I thought Lionel, Obey and you were getting an earlier cab between the 3

I've just picked up a voice mail from connecto-taxi.com, for nine people
they quote two taxis for a total price of 450 EUR, which is 50EUR each
so a bit more than previously expected (I guess the price vs. # of
people graph is a bit of a sawtooth as you fill cars).

Is this acceptable to people?

Lionel, did you hear back on any of the other quotes you were waiting
on?

Thanks.

275 + 160 = 435 / 9 = 48.33EUR each compared with 50EUR from
connecto-taxi. I think for the sake of <2EUR each I would rather go with
the simplicity of using a single company.

Thanks.

I'll wait until late-ish morning (~1100 UK time) and if I've not heard
I'll book the connecto-taxi one.

Could the 8 other folks send me (or the group) a mobile number of some
description please in case last minute communication is required. Mine

Thanks again Lionel.

I presume so but I will double check when I book.

Also there was talk of 20% deposit in the voicemail, I'll take care of

I didn't hear so I have contacted connecto-taxi and after some confusion
about whether or not I was Lionel ;-) and whether I was booking for 3, 8
or 9 people I have now booked two cars (and 8 seater and a 4 seater) for
a total of 9 people for €450 and paid the 20% deposit and am now
awaiting a confirmation email with voucher.

I confirmed that the driver will accept Euros for the balance.

I'm going pass on details of everyone's arrival times to the taxi firm
too so that they have full information, but they are planning to pickup
at my arrival time since it is the last one.

Cheers,

I ended up with the receipt for this taxi journey. If anyone needs a
copy for expense/sponsorship claims or whatever let me know and I can
scan+email or fax it etc.

BTW the cab company turned out to be "City Taxi" who are connecto-taxi's
partner in Zagreb (connecto are actually in Split). Our driver was
asking if I knew anyone who would design them a bookings website which
was not "just made from templates" ;-). If that's your sort of thing I
can put you in touch...
