At DebConf15 the hashes were repeated in the morning briefings. That's not conventional; it is possible someone could announce a different hash that way. Yes, we should have the SHA repeated throughout, either organized centrally or inviting people just to read it during their talks. Maybe by doing it often enough we will get to memorize it! (And, yes, I will only read the SHA, *not* the keys. That'd be terribly boring, error-prone and inefficient) signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ Debconf-discuss mailing list Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss

The South African DHA-84 Form 11 which I filled recommended to get "Hepatitis A" vaccination done only if you are going to stay in South Africa for more than 3 months. With your insight/knowledge I did take the vaccine today as its better to take it rather than give opportunity to get sick while traveling due to water, something as severe as "Hepatitis A" which spreads with water. although will be sticking with bottled water or filtered water as much as possible. I would suggest to put out a mass e-mail as this in the other attendees interest to get vaccinated. -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal शिरीष अग्रवाल My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com EB80 462B 08E1 A0DE A73A 2C2F 9F3D C7A4 E1C4 D2D8 ___ Debconf-discuss mailing list Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss

The serious reply: While you should be fine, in a large city with reliable services, in South Africa, I think getting a Hep A vaccination is a good thing in general. I think South African citizens get these as babies. I had one in 2012 again, but only because I work on a sewage works. Most of the water-related diseases in the south of the continent is only hazardous on long term exposure without alternative clean drinking water, which is where the 'more than 3 months' thing comes in. Going hiking in remote parts, and similar activities (like, maybe attending a conference?) is still fine, you may just get a runny tummy for a day or two. The joking reply: Shirish, surely nothing in South Africa is as bad as a Delhi-belly??? > > -- > Regards, > Shirish Agarwal शिरीष अग्रवाल > My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 > http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ > http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com > EB80 462B 08E1 A0DE A73A 2C2F 9F3D C7A4 E1C4 D2D8 > ___ > Debconf-discuss mailing list > Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org > http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss ___ Debconf-discuss mailing list Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss

Only if the water is improperly treated, or contaminated, I think. This is unlikely an issue on the university campus. There's some risk of transmission between people though[0] (shared bathrooms and such?) and it already seems quite common that DebConf attendees return home with flu or similar. So, sure, let's share health and hygeine advice if we can. > I would suggest to put out a mass e-mail as this in the other > attendees interest to get vaccinated. It seems advisable since, at least in the UK, it's free, and after a follow-up dose you should be immune for 25+ years to infection, or to returning home and spreading it to others. Many of us will be travelling again to other places. It's best to have this at least 2 weeks before travel, but the vaccine can be helpful in fighting infection even if you were *already* exposed[1]. I think I'm having mine tomorrow. Hi Aníbal (2016.06.15_12:15:59_+0200) > Yes! We'll kindly ask the organizers to read and project it every > morning. There is no morning session in the schedule. But we can announce it at the opening, and I've asked Gunnar to give an introduction talk to the continuous keysigning, somewhere near the start of the conference. We can throw in a hash-reverification session half way through the conference, if there's demand. Severe might be overstated. 90% heal within 1 month, 10% might take a few months to heal, and only 0.01% to 0.1% are lethal.[1] The annoying (or good?) part is you'll only notice it after DebConf has finished, as incubation time is around 2 weeks. So, yes, it's a good idea to get it, but as it won't cause permanent damage it's not an absolute must I think.
