[Debconf-discuss] Getting to the venue

2012-06-21 Thread Tom Marble
¡Hola!

I'm very much looking forward DebConf12!

As I arrive in the evening [0] I'm a little concerned
about travel options to the venue. The wiki page [1]
still says "This wiki page is going to provide information soon."

Should we just plan to get a taxi with fellow travelers?

Please advise!

As much as I'm looking forward to see you here :)

Things are in the works - but unfortunately don't get cleared as quick
as everybody wishes, but from seeing it myself in place in Managua
there's no reason to worry.

Current last information I have is that Hotels that'll be booked for
accommodation will provide Airport transfer services. Those contracts
should become signed very soon, probably even today.
Then lists of names of all the people willing to be transferred will
be created and people be picked up.
There might even be a special area in the airport available to us to
gather and wait for transfers together.

As far as I see it at the moment, that'll not be required.

Cheers,
Henning

Just to make it clear ( I've been pointed out I might not have been):

The localteam is working hard to get transfer/pickup organized, but
things take longer as expected and therefore it's not 100% confirmed.
It should turn out in one way or another that there will be an
organized transfer(by hotels or with a government sponsored bus).

As a fallback, having names and contact data of other people that
arrive at about the same time, and joining them to share a taxi is
good to have.
There will be detailed information on getting good and safe taxis at
the airport before debcamp!

Right.

DebCamp people will be picked up at the aiport by their hotel. DebConf
people will probably use the govt sponsored buses. Either way, whe're
working on it and will confirm as soon as we have more info.

2012-06-21 Thread Christian PERRIER
(recycling last year's mail)

Do I need to explain what is the Cheese and Wine (C&W) party? Still,
if some of you need more information, please feel free to ask.

The C&W8 wiki page has just been created on DebConf wiki :

http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf12/CheeseWineBoF

Information will come there until the day of the C&W, which is
scheduled for Monday July 9th.

C&W orga details are currently very vague, but the most important
point is: start planning what YOU will be bringing for the
event. Remember that the event is only successful when many of us
manage to bring good stuff to share (preferrably cheese, wine...or
other ethanol-improved beverages). If you think about something
*else* than cheese, please feel free to bring it: just try to have it
representative of your part of the world...or a part of the world you
love.

Any further questions can be asked in this mailing list or in #debconf
channel on irc.debian.org

PS: don't ask me what are cheese import regulations in Nicaragua, I
have no idea ATM. I suspect they might be similar to what we had in
USA, Mexico, Argentina: avoid fresh cheese but focus more on cured
cheese (aka "hard" cheese).

The customs declaration form at
http://www.eaai.com.ni/images/stories/info/adua1.jpg
mentions "Live animals, plants or fresh food", so I assume that
cheese that doesn't move doesn't need to be declared :)

This is also about the only information I could find.

I like the definition using "cheese that doesn't move"..:-)

And some could anyway say that cheese is indeed not "fresh" food as it
stinks.
