Re: Stus-List LF38 Mast Placement in the Step

I'm not sure that it really matters. That telephone pole mast is still
pretty flexible, and once it's set in the collar the rake is entirely
controlled by the rig.

Stus-List Modifications to rig

2015-05-10 Thread Gary Zuehlke via CnC-List
Hello all,

A couple of days ago while my mast was on saw horses it got into a fight
with a riding lawnmower and lost.

The attachment points for the cap shroud and the mounting bracket for a
lower spreader are mangled badly.

I also have a rod backstay that has a permanent bend in it and the cap
shriud itself now has a kink in it. Neither are really sharp bends.

After all that i have two questions.

Since I need to replace a couple custom fittins anyways. Is there any
additions or mods I should think of doing since I am getting work done
anyways.

How much should I work about the bends in the shrouds?

Thanks Jack. Offshore Spars built the rig and they are about ten minutes

Speaking of replacing, how much difference will I see if I replace the rod

Re: Stus-List Modifications to rig

2015-05-10 Thread Jack Fitzgerald via CnC-List
Gary

I had UK Sails in Charleston replace every piece of the rod with Dyform 6
wire and never looked back. I have owned my 39 since 1975 and the Navtec
rod has been a PITA as well as expensive to properly maintain.

I haven't noticed any difference in the way that my boat sails except that
she is a little faster. However, that could be due the fact that UK's
master rigger tuned the rig perfectly and the UK Charleston loft built me a
fantastic suit tape drive (gold series) of sails.

I second jack's recommendation of Dyform wire as an alternate to rod. I put

Can it be cleaned in place once the end caps are removed? And, if so, does this

Re: Stus-List C&C 34 rig tune

2015-05-10 Thread Chuck Borge via CnC-List
Hi Dwight,

We did some damage over the years. On the J24, I was a fanatic, kept a
log... tuned every week/regatta for conditions, all that stuff. Same on
the J30, but with this boat, I'm looking at some pieces I'm not used to and
figuring it out as I go. Having a baseline is what I was looking for. So I
borrowed a couple big bodies and went up the rig to check thing s out for
myself.
Seems like 1000/1000 on the D1/V1 was a decent start. The D2 is just
barely registering on the gauge, and the V2 is loaded by the V1, with no
adjustment available.
I went sailing yesterday and today (though it was blowing hard today) and
made some adjustments - 1300/1200 and it felt pretty good. Lee shrouds
soft, but not slack until it really kicked up.
Still experimenting, and expecting a new 135% in a few weeks, so I'll be
starting all over again, I suppose.

Thanks for the input from the listers. Every bit helps. After retiring
from racing for a decade +, I'm thinking I'm ready to go back at it, but at
a different pace than before... guess that comes with age.

Best to all,

Re: Stus-List Heat exchanger

2015-05-10 Thread svpegasus38

Tom, if you can access the tubes with the heat exchanger in place. By all
means do so. Although when I do this on Pegasus, I run a lot of water through
it.

Re: Stus-List Heat exchanger

2015-05-10 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
First, I would try to suck/siphon enough coolant out and save it for
reuse. Second, without the end bells on the core is removable. In fact in
dire straights you can do so to make your fresh water cooled into a raw
water cooled. That being said, I don't think you can remove the end bells
without causing coolant to leak.

Re: Stus-List rig tuning

2015-05-10 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
I've been watching my rig and actually tightened the starboard shrouds a
little to match the port...by feel. Under what conditions should I expect
the leeward shrouds to loosen (how much wind and what angle)? Is there a
way to decribe slack? How loose is slack? Visibly floppy or just feel
less stiff?

Thanks,

I got those (wrap pins) last year - and am very happy with them - no
sharp edges, no messing around with rigging tape to make adjustments.
