Well, let's try again. This one is specifically labeled as Linux, so maybe
it's the right one.

Locks, of any type, only keep honest people honest.

Actually stopping would be bad actors is an entirely different problem.

To whit, many locks / enclosures are simply tamper evidence tags.

I did check with Startech and they used to offer replacement keys *with*
replacement door locks only. It seems they're out of replacements.

For whatever reason, the front and back doors use a double-sided key
that's quite different from the side panels, which use what look to be
commodity cam locks.

Oh well, not that I want to lock this thing, but the side panels use the
cam locks as part of the retention mechanism. At least those can be
easily and cheaply replaced.

archive of DEC Notes

2021-02-23 Thread Eric Smith via cctalk
Does anyone have contact information for the proprietor of this site:
http://www.activityclub.org/decnotes/
The site has an index of messages archived from DEC's internal "Notes"
(kind of their equivalent of UseNet).

It appears from the "Download this site" page that at one time it was
possible to download an archive of the actual content, but the hosting used
for that only provides one week of free hosting, which has expired.

I don't need the entire archive (though I'd like to get it), but I'd
especially like to get messages from milkwy::23class_semiconductor and
ricks::decschips.

I started on an 11/750 in 1984. They are fantastic little machines.
If you only have 3-4 users on them, they are quite peppy.

> However it doesn't look like that one has a MASSBUS adapter so I will have to
> pass...

The module map indicates an SI 9400 interface (CMI card to an SI 9xxx
SMD disk box) and an L0007, which is an RH750 MASSBUS adapter. Those
slots appear to be populated with _something_ in the photo. There
_might_ be a MASSBUS connector at the lower-right of the I/O bulkhead.

The CPU area seems to show an FP750 Floating Point accelerator
installed in slot 1.

It also appears there are a couple of cards in the memory area in
slots 6 and 8. What I don't know, since I didn't have one, is how you
load up a machine with an L0022 14MB memory controller, but it's
_possible_ we are looking at 4x 1MB + 2x 4MB (full boat).

It also appears that the two DZ11s may still be installed, but the
TC-131 might be missing.

> And I just gave away a M7850 memory board :-)

Indeed you did, well an M8750 anyway. ;-)

I may be missing something, but the download this site has an expired
wetransfer link.   Archive.org when you navigate to that page, says
"available on the web, not archived" (essentially).  In other words it
didn't grab the transfer image when it was live and likely would only
have the useless link to the dead transfer.

That search box might not be useful, that's the only thing I saw.

Even though Bitsavers was pulled across w/o the requested capture of the
capability to navigate it like a hierarchical file system by archive.org
(If I understand what is lacking there), at least all the bitsavers
content is visible on a document level and is all captured.

sites that use devices which need backend code to fetch up stuff won't
go into archive.org unless someone makes a script an gets it to be

Would be nice to have a download of that info.

at the images and see if they are good? Should be RT11 format, RX02 (of
course), I recorded from both sides of the disks (they're double sided,
hole punched by the vendor) and are at

You should see the disks and the meta files.

Let me know if they work, I need to get to bed. Either burn them on real

PDP11 (Qbus) boards available

2021-02-23 Thread Boris Gimbarzevsky via cctalk
Have been told by my wife that PDP-11 stuff not coming along with us
when we're moving and so time to get it off to a good home. All of
it is QBus and material in first batch is what I've got at home and
will try to get pictures of another 2 systems in storage locker this
week. Locker contains 2 QBus systems, one is a small system with
about 64 Kb of RAM and other is larger, also a Qbus system. I
powered them up when I got them but that was close to 30 years ago so
power supplies will need to be checked out first. Also have a small
4 slot Qbus card cage H9281 which has a DRV11 board in it (photo not shown).

Pictures, in order, are 4 channel 12 bit D/A converter, unknown QBus
board, programmable real time clock, what I thought was manual for
DataTranslation A/D converter but not, A/D converter, have no idea
what Dilog board is, box of DEC cables, a few manuals, MINC manuals,
11/23 together with I suspect is a DRV11, not sure what board with
bus extensions on top is, bus extender, blank 2 slot board and
another board which was part of a parallel interface between MINC and 11/34.

Would preferably like to get rid of everything at once. Haven't
looked at cost of shipping out of Canada. Alternatively, send me an
email off list is you want to pick it up in person. I live in Kamloops, BC.

I thought it was https://www.old-computers.com/ or http://oldcomputers.net/

My googlefoo has been unable to track it down assuming it still exists. I

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Reading them is pretty easy. BURNING them is crazy. They
need an 80 V power supply, and I think you XOR the address
or something as you apply the programming voltage.

Jon

Actually, programming a 1702 only requires a -48 volt pulse for each
address. Here's the datasheet:

Ya, but that's with a Vbb of +12V, so the differential required from the power
supplies is 60V.
(Per the datasheet, it was ~ 55V in the 1702 programmer I once had.)

But that's the easy part.
And the semi-complex timing and switched-complementing of the address can be
done in software.

The hassle is that the data lines, address lines and several of the supply and
control lines all have to be switched independently with these high voltages.
So it's a small mess of specialised discrete drivers and hardware.
It's not just pulse a high voltage to one PGM pin like it was for 2716s and
later eproms.

I don't know what the 2708 (after the 1702, before the 2716) requirements were.
