I understand Tim.

I almost quit WISPA when ubiquiti stared suing operators and distributors
because cambium released their ePMP elevate. I really didn’t like that
WISPA would take such a neutral position when a manufacturer sued an
operator for using a competitor’s product...WISPA is an operator
organization that just happened to let manufactures play in our sand box
because it’s mutually beneficial.

Anyway my takeaway from all that was that I’m not going to agree 100% with
anyone or with any organization, but the benefits to my company (at this
time) far out weigh my ideological disagreement.

So I can appreciate that you may not want to be a member.

I almost quit WISPA when ubiquiti stared suing operators and distributors
because cambium released their ePMP elevate. I really didn’t like that WISPA
would take such a neutral position when a manufacturer sued an operator for
using a competitor’s product...WISPA is an operator organization that just
happened to let manufactures play in our sand box because it’s mutually
beneficial.

Anyway my takeaway from all that was that I’m not going to agree 100% with

Re: [AFMUG] possible new product

2020-05-19 Thread chuck
Normally you core the street or sidewalk, vacuum excavate the hole, then leave
it open so you can see what you are crossing when the directional drill gets
there. After you cross the other pipe/cable/wire etc then you fill it. But if
it is in a traveled surface, we have to fill it with flowable fill in some
jurisdictions. Then after that sets up you come back and glue in the core you
removed.

So yes, after you remove the core but before you restore.

These will also keep a horse or cow from breaking a leg when it is not in the
street.

I am building these for myself. They cover core drilled holes in asphalt and
concrete. We call them top hats and are required by many jurisdictions. I just
added the retractable handle and hot dip galvanized this morning. Might be
something we will sell.

Maybe my eyes are failing me, but I did not see any dimensions.
  Is that plate 4", 6" or 8"?

Re: [AFMUG] possible new product

2020-05-19 Thread chuck
We will make them for a variety of bore holes, all with a 2” annular ring
around the edge so it cannot slide once in place and plenty of overlap to
spread out the force.

The idea is that traffic can roll over them and they will stay in place. Not
everyone uses a 12” core drill like we do.
We used to just use plates but traffic would always push them off the hole.
Then we started staking them with a spike into the asphalt, but that is just
more asphalt damage.

Some folks weld a chunk of 10” pipe on the inside that is designed to fit down
the hole, thus the name tophat. But they are heavy, and we have lots of 1.25”
scrap for our three legs. It does the same thing and is much lighter.

Re: [AFMUG] Determine PMP100 IP

2020-05-19 Thread Ken Hohhof
And for further clarification, you have to power it up with the default plug in
place. That also defaults the password. You can log in, make changes, and
save them. Otherwise the unit is not permanently defaulted, you can remove the
default plug and reboot and everything is back to the way it was.

Re: [AFMUG] Ground lugs and tools

I like my hydraulic crimper. it is a 15 ton (I think) and is supposedly
equivalent to exothermic welds. A bit heavy and bulky but you don't have to
worry about burning the building down or getting hot work permits. We have
copper crimps that have a #2 and 2/0 slot on one side and a 1/4 bar slot on
the other. Our crimpers have a special die with a diamond pattern you use
first to crimp into the buss bar so the crimp doesn't slide around when you
are trying to crimp it. It puts a file looking pattern on the buss bar.
Then crimp on the crimp, then the cable(s).

My favorite by far is cadweld - but obviously that doesn’t work everywhere.

Panduit CT-720 with a CD-720PV8-2 crimp die. Expensive, but it works for 2-8
AWG wire lugs and you can purchase other dies if you need larger.

I got one a long time ago from Harbor Freight (no comments please). It
was only about $60, and I think it is rated at 8 tons. It comes in a
nice case and has a bunch of different sized dies. I think I got it
originally to crimp some stainless cable rail ends. I didn't have high
expectations for it, but it's always worked just fine. On softer things
like copper lugs it should work perfectly fine.

[AFMUG] TVision

2020-05-19 Thread Ken Hohhof
I am confused, can someone enlighten me?

Customer says he is cancelling because his wife signed up for T-Mobile TV
and they said you had to get their Internet. I did a Google search and
found a service called TVision which launched a year ago and was based on
T-Mobile's acquisition of Layer3 TV. But the articles from April 2019
talked about it using your existing wired broadband.

I still see traffic on this customer's connection, so I am wondering if he
has really switched to T-Mobile Internet.

Does this T-Mobile TV service come with its own Internet? And is that whole
house Internet, or just for the IPTV service?

Subject: [AFMUG] WiFi Calling Broken

Anybody else seeing this? Very recently-over the last several days to a
week, WiFi calling has gotten flaky, and now just won't connect. Absolutely
no network or firewall changes, Mikrotik CCR core routing. appears to be
both AT&T and VZW. iPhones, maybe Android too.

(Thought I'd post this properly as a new thread).

Do they also have TMobil Phones? I think they might be confused.

Turn off their Ethernet port and see if their TV Still works.
