Um...

   $ sdcc -v
   SDCC : pic16 2.9.0 #5416 (Oct 21 2009) (UNIX)
   $ cat /etc/issue
   Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 \n \l

Debian Lenny and SDCC 2.9.0...

I did compile up a new version of gputils though...

   $ gplink -v
   gplink-0.13.7 beta

I've only built the PIC16 version though as that's all I'm currently 
intersted in...

So gputils from source then sdcc from source, both under Debian Lenny... 
It's currently working great for me...
