Does it support OSX and Solaris? If not then thats not an option
OS X: yes for the most part, I mainly develop EasyBuild on OS X. There
are some open issues though, but nothing major.
Solaris: we've never used EasyBuild on Solaris (nor do we plan to, to be
honest), so no for now. But, it's Python code, so it's not impossible (I
think).
The reason Aaron is bringing this up is basically because it's strange
that Sage is resolving the problem of dealing with a ton of dependencies
'internally'. Several other projects are doing this too, out of
necessity: you want user to be able to get Sage working.
EasyBuild is however a general solution to this problem: it's not tied
to a particular project that needs to be deal with a ton of dependencies.
It may not be perfect yet, so it's certainly not a drop-in replacement
for the whole setup you have worked out, but working together on it
rather than we trying to ignore what you did and support it in our own
way, seems the sensible thing to do.

Kenneth

This statement is probably there because UGhent is using EL based
systems. We (Bio. Institutes of the Austrian Academy of Sciences)
have been successfully using EasyBuild on SLES and Debian/Ubuntu
based systems for over one year. Others as well. Kennenth (in CC)
might be able to tell you more.
