OK, I witnessed this on a laptop here at a conference I'm at yesterday. I think the problem is that I setup and built everything on a Xeon-based intel mac, and somehow the minimal linux install (which is part of the virtual machine) made some assumptions about the processor that aren't valid for certain other processors. Just out of curiosity, if you run this VMware machine on your laptop, does it work? http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/browserapp.html If so, I could reconfigure that one to include SAGE, and that would work for everybody.
