Yes. If you want to test without changing your Sage install, just install virtualenv and do: virtualenv venv . venv/bin/activate pip install biopython # ipython # whathever test deactivate rm -rf venv If it works, then there should not be any problem within Sage. If it does not work because of some dependencies (e.g. Cython, gmp,...), then you should try within Sage (`sage -pip install blah`) to see if everything is there already.
