I believe that this style of continuation breaks the live documentation.  I 
couldn't easily find any non-underscore methods (which of course don't show 
up in the reference manual) but while working on #13381 I discovered this. 
 So it would be very, very good to fix this before requiring it or 
converting patches to have it.

(Naturally, I agree that being able to cut and paste examples would be a 
very good thing, so it's not the concept I'm bashing, just this problem.)
