I don't know if my situation is typical but for me usually the time between 
announcement and workshop is too short. The e-mail for doc days went out on 
Feb 5 and it was scheduled for April 17-22. Usually, my plans are fixed for 3+ 
months in advance and I cannot squeeze in long distance travel on such a 
"short" notice.

Sorry for going slightly off topic.
