Above was a typo, but it does not change the fact OS X lacks this
[kir...@bsd ~]$ pkg-config
-bash: pkg-config: command not found
or if it does exist, it is not in my path, and not at the most obvious place
[kir...@bsd ~]$ /usr/bin/pkg-config
-bash: /usr/bin/pkg-config: No such file or directory
