Thank you for the very long email.
I got an email off-list from someone else, which I believe rather put
your email into perspective.
I'm really sorry if anything in my email was offensive -- I knew the
thread was already fairly heated, and definitely didn't want to add to
that. (And I still don't.)
Your email was not offensive - I was not trying to imply you were personally
weird.
I'm not even sure if the private email sent to me was sent before or after what
you sent. It was not in response to anything you had written.
I just happen to reply to your email, since
a) I'd not done so before.
b) Your email was very long, and really the other person's point that it would
have been less work to write a filter than to bother complaining seemed
particularly appropriate in the case of your email.
And in the time that people have taken to complain about excess
Solaris related emails to sage-devel, they could have written a
trivial filter in gmail/procmail/whatever to pipe them to somewhere
else. People are weird.
Yes, it's easy to set up a filter. That said, a mailing list where
many of the subscribers feel the need to filter the traffic doesn't
strike me as a healthy mailing list. Maybe I'm just weird.
I don't know where the 'many' is. There have been as many, if not more, who
thought the idea of sage-solaris was ill thought out.
Recently more people have been testing their code on 't2'. However, by creating
a sage-solaris, which a smaller subset of people will subscribe to, the problem
with inadequate awareness of Solaris will just get worst.
