I'm not sure it is obvious. Remember too it is only in the USA - to do it in 
every country would probably cost a whole lot more.

I'd certainly look at Maple, MATLAB, Mathematica etc.

The thing about Sage is that one could certainly use it as a basis for 
accounting. I could easily see someone writing such an application. That could 
cause an issue later. There are certainly financial add-ons for Mathematica.

To be honest, I often thought the name was a bit inappropriate given the 
accounting software.
