IANAL, but I could imagine that in some countries it would be possible
that somebody registers SageMath, waits a few months, and then claims
a lot of money (20k$) from William Stein for 'misusing' the brand
SageMath for a period of several months.

Actually a friend of mine was in a similar situation. He had a wine
shop, and was eventually fined for using a certain name in his web
pages. According to him, the lawyer suing him was specialised on such
cases and was searching the web with the intention to make money.
