Hi Dima and John,

Yes, this seems to be one of the problems I am having. I did indeed migrate 
from another Mac, so it probably copied over the homebrew in /usr/local

MacBook-Pro-3:lib anne$ which brew
/usr/local/bin/brew

Now I need to figure out how to get rid of it.
