Thanks. I confess that I misunderstood things about installing sage from 
source. I thought, for example, sage-10.4.zip contains all upstream source 
tarballs (files in /upstream) so that it can be used to install sage from 
it without internet connection. My question was based on the 
misunderstanding. Unzipping the zip file (first time for me) proved that I 
am wrong.


If you a referring to the "Source code (zip)" file that you find in 
https://github.com/sagemath/sage/releases/tag/10.4 
(https://github.com/sagemath/sage/archive/refs/tags/10.4.zip): That file is 
automatically generated by GitHub from the commit of the tag. It has no 
relation to the present discussion.
