I've looked into Java3D a bit and it seems to need all kinds of scary
fiddling and installing to get working - especially in a browser.
Instructions I found referred to "jre1.2" and "java2". Given that
"jre1.6" seems to be current, I think those instructions might be
outdated.

Some people here seem to have been able to get java3d working in their
browser. Does anybody have a pointer to a reasonable installation
guide for, say, fedora 7? Any attempt on my side has led to sending
firefox into a non-responsive busy-loop.

I agree that screenshots of java3d look really promising, but Ted's
applet has the distinct advantage of actually putting something in my
browser that works. (although it looks like it will only be able to
make graphs - no general 3d pictures)
