The latest Rosegarden you can get through Ubuntu is probably a bit old, 
but it is unlikely that the age of your Rosegarden is your problem in 
this case.

It is most likely that whatever you are using to reproduce MIDI either 
does not understand reverb or handles reverb differently from expected. 
  It could be on a different, non-standard controller, or it could be 
something radically wild like the Korg M3 example asked in the other 
question.

The place to start, therefore, is to establish what you are using to 
reproduce MIDI.  Typically this will be QSynth with the Fluid soundfont, 
but there are dozens, even hundreds or thousands of other possibilities. 
  Unfortunately, this particular issue is immensely complicated.
