Well, it's working! The short names are showing up on all subsequent
systems after the first.

An indirectly related issue, which I'm not sure whether is a lilypond
issue or a rosegarden issue: long track names currently just bleed past
the left margin of the page. One of my tracks is called "Bb Trumpets"
and it's barely fitting on the page (I had it as "Trumpets in Bb" and
the T gets cut off). Is there a way to tell lilypond to allocate enough
space to fit the text?

This also affects the shortnames, as it appears that there's no extra
space allocated for them on the left margin so even a short name like
"Timp." is overshooting the edge of the page.

I don't mind. Stylistic issues can be fixed later; what's important is
that it works. :)

Good idea, I haven't noticed that yet (haven't tried to extract parts
yet). Is that going to be another massive change? ;-)
