What you've found _is_ the workaround. You can do a score that prints correctly, with the bar numbers in the right places, or you can do a score that sounds out all the repeats. You can't do both in the same file. The alternative ending thing is a brutal hack just to offer _something_ in this area, because Rosegarden just can't handle this kind of flow control. Rosegarden is a MIDI sequencer with higher end notation features grafted on, but it's a sequencer underneath. That turns out to make it incredibly difficult to figure out how to make alternate endings, DC, DS and so on actually work, from a sequencer perspective. I don't think it's quite impossible, but it's one of those things where you go in thinking it will be simple to figure out, and then you get some way into a solution before realizing how hard it really is, because you forgot about this, that, or the other. I've even considered solutions that involved forking Rosegarden into a purely notation-oriented spinoff, but even there maintaining cross-compatibility with the files is a serious challenge, given the different sorts of problems the two applications would be intended to solve. Five years ago, there was a chance we'd figure this out, but now, I can say that nobody on the core development team even daydreams about solving this one anymore. We've given up, and what you found is all that there is, and most likely all there will ever be. -- D.
