Dear Blaise,

Freedom is free, and using the command line version of GSAS works as good as
the new Graphical Users Interface versions. However I’d strongly suggest you
to try EXPGUI instead of PC-GSAS.

Not only you’ll have all the capabilities that GSAS itself has (links to all
routines distributed with GSAS are there), in a very neat and easy to use
GUI, but also a number of additional routines that help convert coordinates,
correct file formats, generate instrument parameter files, plot peak widths,
plot output (fits, structure) and a long etc….. Nothing you couldn’t do by
yourself, however, everything is visible and easy to find. Additionally you
can you can always access “the dark side of GSAS” through a mouse click
without having to write file-name, etc.

In summary, if you are able to use GSAS in it´s command line mode you´ll
probably enjoy the additional features and ease of use of Brian Toby’s
EXPGUI (available in multiple platforms).

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Leo

I am relearning GSAS right now. I was pretty good at it in graduate school
(DOS-GSAS). I have PC-GSAS running and everything works -- but I am having
trouble getting use to the program being in the windows environment.

I know this is a stupid request: can I still get the dos version? Or is it
possible to run PC-GSAS in dos? In other words can I make the entire program
entirely command line? My fingers are twitching to go faster and my mouse is
getting in the way.

I feel like my dad when he asked me to upgrade his work laptop from windows
95 to windows 3.x. J

Kind regards to all!

Blaise
